That sucks. I was excited about hearing more from Trevor Morris, especially after Trespasser. It felt like DA finally found its sound. With Zimmer I expect a generic feel again and anything he'll come up with will have no impact on DA5. Yeah I'm conflicted, I loved Trevor Morris's work in DAI, is likely my favorite bioware soundtrack by far (excluding star wars ones with john williams stuff cuz thats cheating XD). His Solas trespasser song moment is epic, and the theme song for DAI I never get enough of. That said I love Zimmer's work, so I'm curious to see if he manages to give it some epic theme hopefully but still a shame, they didn't get Morris back. I always find it odd when games drop a soundtrack that becomes iconic, same thing happened with Uncharted 4, they suddenly dropped the iconic version of Nate's theme, the one in 4th grew on me and is all right but is still pales next to the original.

That said playing DA2 again even if just the end bit got me excited again, I really do think that's my favorite DA game. I got super invested instantly, and even the combat just feels much more fun than DAIs for me. It makes me sad to think of how AMAZING DA2 could have been with more development time...there was just so much potential there...I always go back and forth between Origins and 2 when it comes to my favorite DA game but what draws me to DA2 is how much more personal it feels because of the smaller scale and focus on Hawke and his life. I love the family aspect and that you get to spend time with his mother and siblings. Just thinking of how much more that could have been fleshed out with more development time...the city of Kirkwall...the companions...the romance... I would LOVE another game like it...smaller, with more of a focus on the protagonist, their relationships, their life. I will forever be bitter we were robbed of that expansion that DA2 deserved. While I enjoy Inquisition...the Inquisitor is just so boring and lifeless and the whole empty open world aspect did not help any. I love *my* Inquisitor, the one I came up with in my mind, but pretty much none of what I imagine for him is reflected in game so...I can't even have my chosen romances be "canon" because BioWare robbed us of two hot knights. Well there's my rant for the day. I'll stop there lol. I honestly don't know what to expect in DA4, but I'm hoping I can feel connected to the world again and the companions, at least more than Indid in Inquisition since we will probably never see a protagonist like Hawke again.

I'm honestly the opposite - Trevor Morris sounded very generic to me, especially because his score didn't really carry anything from DAO/DA2's soundtrack as connective tissue, so it made Inquisition sound divorced from the franchise.

I would love to contribute to the music talk, but game music for me is mainly something I ignore (or have to turn off cause it hypnotically puts me to sleep). Great example most Pokemon games I have to put on something more exciting to listen to, or I'll just pass out mid-gaming session. There are some great exceptions though, but nothing in Dragon Age comes to mind really.
One exception being of course the scene right before you get to Skyhold and they bust out the churchy song "The Dawn Will Come". I enjoyed that. Yet another moment semi-ruined by Cullen's voice actor turning out to be a shitlord. :/

I don't think there was anything to carry. Inon Zur's work on the first one sounded to me like "this is an RPG," with 2 being more experimental but still not very memorable. It's a problem I often have with his work, unless someone else does the groundwork (like with Icewind Dale and Fallout), I just don't like his work.

But for me a lot of games exist in my head as music first, then the rest. Like Ori, Skyrim, Silent Hill, Neverwinter Nights. The Trespasser OST got the closest to that for me when it comes to DA as a series.

the leaked track is very spooky and I wonder how much dark is going to be Dreadwolf when it comes to dark fantasy, I mean we saw things like that in the past but I wonder if they are going to go even further, with the new protagonist going to Tevinter, the black city hints and all that I guess it's really fitting. But man, I hope they show us something in the game awards

I finally finished Dragon Age Origins again after two years on-and-off (with about two restarts due to computer issues). That ending still really gets me emotional. I especially really felt connected to the Ser Gilmore romance again, giving me the warm fuzzy feeling.
Having to sit through the ritual with Morrigan just felt so wrong. I don't think it bothered me as much before as it did this time. It was just soooo uncomfortable.(I made Alistair do it it). Probably because I still really love Alistair and now I know what it's like to watch someone you like with someone else. I also actually had Anora betray me for the first time ever (I think), so I thought I heard wrong when she started speaking against me at the landsmeet. I made her marry Alistair, but I'm still conflicted on whether or not I like it. Taking a short break to play Mass Effect and other stuff first before moving on to Awakening and 2, but I'm definitely excited for them. I can't believe it's been...six years since I last played? Thinking about that makes me feel old lol.

And yeah I could not deal with the Morrigan ritual, I tried but I just could not do it, felt so wrong. Ultimately had to reject it anyway to make it "canon" ish with one of them dying, though the game surprised me with Alistair being the one sacrificing himself for me. I kept him warden also because Alistair never shows any interest in being a king, granted I'm sure he ends up being a good one but I just didn't feel comfortable forcing him. That's my only main issue with Origins, that decision and morrigan rituals just feels like the game really wants to force you or make you miss out if you don't. And yeah it still feels like yesterday since I played origins and 2 but is been like 2 or 3 years now since my first time, crazy!

dark ritual only proves to me how Gaider gave zero fucks about gay men players lol there are like hundred of ways to write dark edgy stuff, I'm sure forcing someone to fuck Morrigan and having a baby is not... Tell me the amount of effort that a straight male player would have doing that? ZERO...like it is just a narrative that could have been written by wanker bitches in 4chan one of the few positive things out of the ultimate sacrifice, my warden didnt have to deal with that shit and died a hero. About king Alistair or not who knows what Bioware writting is gonna do with him, big decisions do not matter in the long run but I love to put people that I know has a good heart in position of power, like king Alistair or pope Leliana

As a result, we just get Flemeth taking it from Kieran in the end and doing a vaguely defined "something" to him that removes the "dreams" that are indicated to be a result of having that.
It's the kind of thing that I don't think ANYONE was thinking about the impact of, for gay OR straight players. Like, maybe it's just a side effect of the thought they had at the time that this would be a one-and-done game, not an ongoing series, but the end result is that they put this plot thread in there, and yet couldn't actually make it a key involvement in the future, because there was that option of playing a Warden who did refuse, and needing to keep the game's universe going in both versions.

I believe the devs have said that they were planning to make a canon timeline and have sequels follow off of that. My guess is originally the Dark Ritual was supposed to be the canon choice, and it would pay off in the plots of the next games, but then players got upset that their choices wouldn't matter so they had to scrap that part of the plot and make something more universal.
