Does anyone else ever worry that they're going to turn into a bitter Star Wars type fanboy who just reflexively hates everything new?
I played DAO/DA2 in 2013, so I really didn't have a lot of time for them to calcify in my heart before DAI came out. Because of that I feel like I can love all three games without comparing them to each other that much. Like there's things I didn't care for in each of them, but over all my opinion for all 3 games is overwhelmingly positive and I don't truly have a favorite.
But it's such a long wait at this point for something I love so much and I feel like every new thing I see makes me feel disappointed. I'm worried that I've spent so much time thinking about the previous games and imagining what could be that any actual version of DA4 is not going to be able to live up to it.
I realized this over the summer when that awful vapor wave logo came out and I've just really been trying to emotionally distance myself and not pay attention. I'm still going to get DA4 when it comes out but I want to have as few expectations as possible for my own well-being.

Same here, I loved DA2 and I, but by the time 4 comes out it will have been a decade or even more since Inquisition's release. You just can't keep up the excitement for that long on just a few Varric/Solas teasers.
Between the long wait and Andromeda being just ok, I don't feel like Bioware is like a significant thing in my life anymore, so much so that I've changed my nick after all these years. And after the disappointments from pre-patch Andromeda, the Odyssey dlcs, and Cyberpunk's very bad romance, I just don't expect good gay rep from AAA anymore.
Mostly I'm thankful for furry VN creators. They're filling that need for gay rep and I can play games with LGBT side content, like Hades or, eventually, DA4, and not get overhyped or be devastated, when it's just not great.

Yeah, the wait has killed so much momentum for me, especially with the fact that the things that BioWare is banking on - not even just "Solas Solas Solas and did we mention Solas!" but the fact that they shot Dorian's romance in the foot with maneuvering him into position to be in DA4 also started that downward spiral for my enthusiasm.
I've said for a while now, there's a big problem with this massive gap between the games, because everyone's grown attached to their theories and ideas for the next game, and inevitably, 99% of that is probably going to be discarded or not quite the way they were hoping. And it's GONNA impact the reactions to the game, ultimately - with people believing the game should play out in THIS fashion, it going in THAT way, it's going to make people upset.
Honestly, now that I think about it, given this gap, I wouldn't be surprised if fan backlash gets so extreme that there is no further Dragon Age game after this, because the fandom will be so divided as a result...

They also just really haven’t marketed the game to anyone other than Solas ride or die-ers. Very little showing of environments, other characters, nugs, etc. So, it’s possible if you don’t care about Solas, the game basically being marketed as a weird MTV Behind The Music about the has been screamo band Dread Wolf and the lead singer, Solas, is probably going to numb any excitement you might have to see Thedas after 85 long years.
Cause for me personally, I have recently experienced excitement/happiness from various IPs dear to my childhood with new installments as an bitter adult (Star Wars tv shows, BG3, I enjoyed parts of Rings of Power, strange new worlds, etc). It’s possible DA4 could be good. But seeing Solas’ pouty face almost exclusively is a buzz kill.

Honestly a lot of my hype for the game died because of how long we've had to wait since DA:I. That kills a lot of hype - but the way they've been marketing the new game with its focus all on Solas is exhausting and boring. There's so much they could show us and focus on but no, Solas, Solas, Solas. RIP if you didn't romance, or care about him. And it's dumb, because unless the Inquisitor gets a big part in the game somehow, the new player character likely isn't gonna give a fuck about him and just want to stop him from ending the world. It's Hawke vs Warden all over again. The Inquisitor didn't know either of them except Hawke being Varric's friend. Instead Bioware just wanted to capitalize on making the decision difficult for the player, not for their character. Even then I only see that decision being hard if you had Alistair as a Warden. For me I had Stroud and sorry Stroud, I'mma save my Hawke every time. But again, that's not a good, difficult decision for the Inquisitor, it's just for the player. They have a dumb habit in games of forcing you to choose to save one over the other and every single time for me, they manage to pick a favourite vs someone I don't care about so the choice is always easy.
If it comes to Solas vs saving the world, then I'm about to crack an egg.

And I certainly understand wanting to be careful with marketing of this game - after Andromeda and Anthem struggled, after the absolutely viscous way that anyone trying to offer positivity for these games were treated, I do understand playing things close to the vest. Hell, after the early marketing for Inquisition featured elements that didn't actually make it in to the game (Varric commenting "outflexed by the ladies once again," a major decision point in Crestwood), I get being stingy.
I am just asking for something that offers encouragement for elements of the game that AREN'T Solas. Talk up the world and the new locations - for example, we know the plan is and has always been to go to Tevinter, so talk up Minrathous, advertise about the city, SOMETHING!
Like... Absolution being released was probably the best thing for my sense of hype for the next Dragon Age game, because we saw Tevinter, got elements of the characters and people there we didn't know before, and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with Solas! THAT'S the kind of marketing that they need to be exploring - the Solas fans are already hooked, they know that he's involved. HOOK THE REST OF US.

"Ding dong the witch is dead" etc....
Here's hoping they had time to take out all the homophobia he ordered for the game.

I’m so glad he’s gone.
Considering it’s rare for a senior lead to depart when a game is close to release, it’s more evidence Dreadwolf is going to be a decent chunk of a wait. But game development is in such a weird state anymore it could mean nothing about its timeline.

News from a leaker, who tends to be reliable gives some insight on the game’s state, says the game features a central hub compared to destiny, but I think the writer is clueless cuz skyhold literally was one the way is described on the article XD. That aside other interesting bits is that the combat is more modern hack and slash like recent final fantasy, and that there’s still a lot missing in the game that could mean a 2024 release. Time will tell I suppose, here’s the full article:

Yeah, all BW games I have played could be described as a central hub that you depart from. I think they are implying it’s not open world really and the hub is in its own space, which is also nothing new for BW. But could be seen as archaic anymore.
The hack n slash stuff seems sensational until you remember every DA game has more hack n slash features than DAO. And the one combat demo thing we saw ages ago, the combat looked a bit more like DAI but with timing/spacing and stuff that would work better for multiplayer. Which DAI had but it wasn’t the main feature. But we also know DAI combat was designed to be multiplayer and limited ability load out and stuff for that reason.
It honestly feels like they said things that most of us would expect but I guess seems like news if you forgot what dragon age is.
Not that I am not worried or nervous for DAD ( I just realized this is the abbreviation) but nothing that was said there worries me other than more evidence the game is most likely at least a year away. The stuff about party control not being in game is also ironic because DAI added that stuff, and the pause system, last minute. If the game hadn’t been delayed it might not have been in launch.

Those screen gifs don't seem legit-if they are I'd be shocked honestly.

If they are legit it’s like the andromeda leaked images we had: a very early build. They are sort of similar to the official snippet of gameplay we got…. Years ago? Where they showed a sword and board knight use magic abilities and showed off blocking as a mechanic. Which I think is believable that this game will expand on DAI and make a more real time reflexive combat, but hack n slash to me is Skyrim. Which nothing so far has appeared to be that level of bland.
Also early DAI info had hair physics, more reactive dodging/blocking if I remember. So by the time this comes out… it could be wildly different.

Seems pretty real to me, I think I saw a still from the first gif somewhere before. The banter subtitles freezing is what sells it for me - I played Inquisition on day one and the banter bugs were the biggest issue for a long time.
Hope they don't language-lock DA4, by the way. Every time I think about replaying DAI I remember that I have to wrangle with the translation files to get the english UI and then fight with the mod manager, because it does not like modified language files, and I just postpone it...

I think the combat in all the games has just been ok at best, so I'm open to them trying something else. My biggest fear is that there were only two companions with the player in that leak.

(also forgot that burly ginger pirate? I need companion info asap ) the gameplay looks cool to me, I kinda disliked it in DAI and how slow it was and missed DA2 combat. I'm reading gAmErS opinions about how DA:D is ruined cause of the "new" gameplay lmao like if people did play these games for the gameplay, we play for the story shut the fuck up Steven lol

For the Wardens!" line got me feeling things BA 😳😳😳😳😳 he has to be a companion for sure, theres too much of it out there to be old and fake news if so hopefully he will be the male companion lead that you cannot missed and hopefully bi (as much as I would love him to be gay, thats impossible for plot-relevant ones) Theres a female rogue-ish dwarf so thats probably Rook. I refuse to believe they booked Ike Amadi for a minor character, so hopefully both are on this concept??? not small character in the pic though I understand people's concerns about not controlling party members though, even though I couldnt care less (I just used them when neccesary) I understand it, but its too early to be worry about that me thinks 🤔
