Cassandra is one of my favourite characters in the DA franchise. I adore the friendship path with her. I love the idea of her hidden romantic side, and the subplot with Varric's books is an absolute highlight of DAI for me.
Also, unlike some of the dudebros mentioned above, I find short-haired women very attractive and I was really looking forward to her romance.
In the end, though, it only really adds a giant fetch quest and that one poetry/sex scene. It really didn't add anything significant to her character.
I found it a particular disappointment content-wise after Sera's present quest and subsequent meltdown/make-up in the tavern, plus all the stuff in her diary.
I would've had nothing against her being a F/F option, but I'm not sure that you're all missing out on as much as you think...

I wonder if you would have felt differently if the novel reading scene that everyone gets was also part of the romance path. To me, that is the key scene to show her softer/fangirl side, and the romance builds on that. Once you've seen that scene, there isn't anything new to show with that aspect of it. It's nice to see a guy say that about short hair. I mean, I know you're not the only one out there, but too often the attitude I see is, "If a woman cuts off her hair, she has ruined herself." Having preferences is one thing. We all have them. But guys seem to take it to the next level with this long/short hair thing.

Yes that's precisely it. The novel scene does such a wonderful job of showing her hidden romantic side that to me the actual romance fell flat. With Sera, on the other hand, the themes of acceptance that are present in her friendship path are expanded and underlined by her romance in a really memorable way, both in her reaction to finding out that you asked everyone what to get her as a present, and her subsequent freak-out at the thought of losing you. I can't understand it either. I mean, I happen to prefer short hair myself, and generally find women more attractive when they cut their hair shorter, but that doesn't mean that I suddenly find them hideous when they choose to grow it long. I don't see why a certain subsection of guys get so vocal about it in the other direction.

I like her romance arc best out of the 3 female LI, because it revolves around her being unexpectedly a romantic. Plus a girl that reads smut is a keeper imo. I think it is really just that she is the whole package for F/F. Everything we usually don't get in a LI that we want. A knight in shinning armor, a "rough around the edges" personality, very involved in the main plot, and ascetically butch.

Do you think Cassandra would give book recs to the other people in Skyhold? Maybe she recs Dorian some magic-themed gay erotica.

Well he does have that one scene were he strolls by, claiming to now "feel dumber for having tried" to read her fav book. (He's so full of shit. ) Not sure Cass would like something that is magic-themed? Incidentally, I do like Dorian and Cassandra's friendship arc. I like that they have that connection and frame of reference for being in noble families where they didn't meet the expectations of their respective families. He also respects her, which is important.

That along with her attitude and her beautiful little heart studded armor. Forever salty. And she totally ships it...

The book scene is just the greatest. Her VA did SUCH a wonderful job through the whole thing, it's one of my favorite performances in any game. And I love that video where her VA is basically like..."Yeah, Cassandra can get it."

I just feel that the romance itself is a pretty feeble extension of the friendship path...

I enjoy how all three eventually grow to like each other despite their rather marked differences.

I needed to post some Cass art, since I romanced her on three different playthroughs and whoever talks about her being ugly obviously needs their eyes checked. I was so sick of reading about it that it should be a crime tbh.
