I don't have any romance options till Mass Effect 3 sadly. BioPhobed to hell in back in the Mass Effect series at every turn. Yeah, honestly it's kind of turned me off the series as a whole. I was already mostly a Dragon Age fan anyway. Like, at least in Dragon Age I get 5 whole husbands to choose from, and they're all companions. lol Yep. I'm pretty much done with Mass Effect games moving forward unless they work miracles with that patch.

linkhave u guys seen this? i wonder if this game will have ss romances... I'm watching this on my phone so I could be mistaken, but I can't see an obviously female character in sight (unless one of the four "companions" is one, and she's actually suited up very well, which is a very welcome change). If it features romance, well... But God, it looks pretty neat, and I hope it does feature gay relationships for both female and male players.

I took that last group shot as being another example of the varied class system, not that those were all companions. Like if the DA2 trailer ended with Hawke in all of the class Champion armors.

Found some older info, so maybe things have changed in the meantime..? I doubt it. From a dev: "I like female characters (I personally had a lot of fun with the latest Tomb Raider Game) but for us my personal opinion (!) is, it might be too risky only focussing on a female main character or having both a male and female protagonist due to the high financial costs it would lead to." I mean, that's just the same old tired excuse. No thanks. And another comment I found: "no character customization and the character will be male" Seems they're going the Witcher route. Haven't found anything about S/S romance...the game may surprise in that regard but I'd say things don't bode well.

I'm sick of this crap. Women are treated as a super special game feature that can easily be cut out or not even considered. And I doubt there will be a m/m romance for those same "financial reasons"

Ubisoft was using this all the time, but at least they're realizing their mistake now. We finally got AC where we can play as a woman, now they're doing this in FC5 and they are rurmors WD3 will have playable woman as well. At least in Witcher it made sense, since it was a game based on books, so they couldn't change Geralt's gender. Here? We have the whole new universe and they're not even trying. This is sad and pathetic. And that is why I'm happy that BW is still making RPGs. At least in their games gender isn't forced.

Too many developers still use this terrible excuse, when frankly it would mean more to me if a dev admitted their mistake and vowed to do better. I'll aways remember with Rockstar said the reason why non of the 3 protagonists in GTA 5 were woman was because they were trying to tell a 'masculine' story and then I played through the whole thing hoping to discover when the 'masculine' story would start and it never did. Turned out they just meant 'these characters are horrible & murder people so they can't be womez' And I'm not even saying that all games have to have the ability to select gender (although it would be nice) but don't give bullshite reasons as to why you didn't include the option to choose your gender or why you decided not to have a female protagonist. Give us the real reason and if that reason is totally sexist then recognise your mistake and do better in your next game or in DLC or something.

I'm sick of this crap. Women are treated as a super special game feature that can easily be cut out or not even considered. And I doubt there will be a m/m romance for those same "financial reasons" Yeah, I just did some research and it appears this is yet another awesome looking game, but... with a fixed male protagonist. So yeah, no thanks. I'm just way too sick of this shit, and the lame ass excuses for it, to want to spend my money on any RPG developer that thinks this is still okay in 2017. Like, the Witcher I get because it's based on books about a specific character. But here there's no reason for it. Whatever it costs to make that an option (and it's been confirmed by developers who can bothered that it's actually not that expensive) will be made up for by the fact that female gamers, you know, exist. And a hell of a lot of us are more likely to buy a game if we can play as our gender. Hell, last I heard, even Cyberpunk 2077, which I spent years looking forward to, will supposedly have a fixed male protagonist, despite it being based on a tabletop game where you could be female. If this turns out to be true (I'm still hoping whoever wrote the article with that piece of info was misinformed)... there will be no words to fully express my disgust and disappointment. Anyway, I actually came here to recommend a game, not bash one. If you have Skyrim on PC, there's a total conversion mod called Enderal I just recommended over in the Skyrim mods thread. It took the Skyrim engine and assets and built a completely new game with them. It's pretty amazing. It's huge and detailed and fully voiced (in both English and German!) - and it has romances! I can't speak to the quality of said romance as I'm not very far in, and have only met one of the options (there's two - one of either gender but both are bisexual). But he's fleshed out, plot relevant, and has a ton to say. Way more reminiscent of a Bioware character than a Skyrim follower. I said this in the other thread already, but in general Enderal reminds me more of a Bioware game in how it's structured than a Bethesda one. Anyway, if you haven't heard of it, or have but were on the fence about trying it out, I highly recommend it! More on it (and my initial impressions of its LGBT representation) in my earlier post here.

Article about Elex at Polygon, I...don't feel like I'll be missing much by skipping it. It's still a few months from release, but right now it sounds pretty rough: "Bugs aside, the voice acting and the animation of the non-player characters is painfully bad. Likewise, the dialogue system appears to be paper thin. In the few conversations I’ve had, it felt like there was little choice offered." "There have been crashes and glitches, including a pretty distracting one related to breast physics." Not to make female character design assumptions...actually, I'm gonna go ahead and make female character design assumptions. So... apparently they did have the resources to put toward implementing breast physics? #priorities Well, if it's a crappy game anyway, I feel slightly better about it. The no-girls-allowed (unless they're bangable! - somehow I'm doubting this one has m/m options) club can go ahead and keep this one.

Right, because Tomb Raider, Horizon Zero Dawn, Life is Strange (just games I can think off on top of my head) were so unsuccessful

The game can't have a female protagonist but it can have breast physics? I hate when a game has breast physics, all I can focus on is how weird they make the women in the game look. Breasts don't move like that!

If they're going to go with having a preset character appearance and gender in an RPG, then IMO they should put some effort into actually making their protagonist iconic-looking. Instead, they went with the same "Brown haired 20-30 something white man" that we've seen dozens of times before. What makes it worse is that the glowing transition line thing they used in the trailer could've been used to great effect to show off character customization. "Now the protagonist's a black woman in a post-apocalyptic setting, now they're an Asian man in a dark fantasy setting, check out all the possibilities!" Instead it's just "Now the protagonist's a generic white guy, now they're a generic white guy in different clothes!"
On top of that, the game apparently has "breast physics," but no visibly female characters in the trailer? That coupled with not having a female protagonist option leaves me wary of how the game's going to treat women. The excuse they gave is a turn off too; I think Tomb Raider and Horizon: Zero Dawn showed that most gamers will happily support a game with a female protagonist if the game itself is good.
So, yeah, unless its story and gameplay pleasantly surprise me and actually turn out to be fantastic, I think I'll give this one a pass.

Here's the article from March of this year: www.pcgamesn.com/cyberpunk-2077/cyberpunk-2077-release-dateGaming journalism being what it is, and this being a minor publication, I wouldn't put too much stock in it - especially since the talk about the male protagonist doesn't include a quoted source. Still, I wouldn't even be surprised, sadly, if this is what they end up choosing to do. Either way, until I hear official confirmation that there will for sure be a gender choice, I'm tempering my hopes for the game.

Either way, until I hear official confirmation that there will for sure be a gender choice, I'm tempering my hopes for the game. CD Projekt Red spent years making three games about a male protagonist, I was hoping they'd want to switch it up a bit a have a female protagonist or a choice of genders. While I loved the Witcher 3, that series was never great for diversity CD Projekt Red & Witcher fanboys always made the excuse that it was based on a book or it was based on medieval europe (which is crap for too many reasons to get into now) so I had been hoping that Cyberpunk 2077 would feature a more diverse cast since it's based on a far more flexible tabletop RPG rather than a more rigid series of books. If the game does have a set male protagonist then I would be very worried that there would also have no LGBT characters and a limited number of minor pocs characters and that would mean that CD Projekt Red is not the champion of RPGs that people want it to be,
