That's his writer? It's really great to see that she feels this way and understands just how important and powerful this romance was for people like that cosplayer, as well as many of us here I'm sure. 
I found myself listening to the soundtrack of the trilogy and as always...it brought back a lot of wonderful memories and emotions from the experience of playing it the first time...and finally being able to play as an openly gay character with Shepard and Kaidan ending up together after everything. There has been nothing like the Kaidan romance since then after going through various m/m options. It was just handled so beautifully and really left an impact on me, even after all this time. I still tear up when listening to "I Was Lost Without You" because it makes me think back to that wonderful experience of romancing Kaidan. I don't think there will ever be another romance that will impact me as much as Kaidan's and he's always going to have a place in my heart.
It's such a large part of what makes Mass Effect 3 my favorite game in the franchise as well as why I love the trilogy so much. I don't think there will ever be another gaming experience like that for me, which is a shame.

Over on tumblr, a writer of fanfic who also happens to be a historian on masculinity and male bonding in the military spoke with Raphael Sbarge and told him how much this romance meant to so many gay men out there. She started crying and that got him crying. That led to Sbarge and Mark Meer signing this particular commission (which has a lengthy post attached). Here's the artwork:  |

As much as I am frustrated by the fact that it took three games to get, I will ALWAYS love the Shepard/Kaidan relationship with all my heart. These two lovestruck idiots...
