What songs really wrench at your heartstrings, either because of nostalgia/memories you associate with it or because of the content of the song itself or the context around the song? I'll give some examples for myself:

I wish I could do this properly, but for now I'll just mention a few songs and ya'll can look them up on youtube if you are interested. I'll edit this post (or make aother one depending on how fast this thread moves) tomorrow though if my pc stops being slow. Comfortably Numb- (originally by Pink Floyd, but I personally didn't discover it till it was on the Scissor Sisters cd). I really adore this song and it speaks so well of how I feel when my depression is at it's worse. Unbreak my Heart- Toni Braxton---- I know most people have gone through a breakup and just give all that power to your ex-wanting them to come back and just fix everything. That was my theme when the love of my life (at the time anyway) turned out to be a jackass. Lithium - Evenacence ---never been on the medication, but yeah the song still just makes me feel things. For reasons. Backstreet Boys - Show me the meaning of Being lonely----- I mean does that one even need explanation? The feels of it all!!

A good thread Catharsis is good. A couple songs that have deep personal meaning to me. Mostly related to grief and attempting to live with that loss.
One more... When I'm at my truly lowest, cheesy as it seems, this song lifts me up, just a little. Just enough, I guess.

It's difficult to find a song that nails feeling low, so I only have a few. They aren't outright heartbreak songs, though. Just ones that are introspective and down-tempo. Song List Epilogue - Late Night Alumni Contemplates death and the hereafter: "should I go, would I be at peace with a legacy I left behind?". That sort of song. Personal favourite. Everything about it is haunting, in my opinion- the music, the vocals, the lyrics, and the subject matter. The Day You Went Away - Wendy Matthews End of a relationship. Enough said. It's Over - Vertical Horizon End of a relationship. Enough said. It's the foot-dragging post-grunge sort, though. {Spoiler}

Thought Balloon, by Freezepop makes me think about a relationship that I wish had worked out. It's very personal to me, but I haven't actually listened to it for years.
I wouldn't try again with this person, because we've changed too much and are completely different people now, but it's hard not to think about how it could have turned out if we had both just behaved differently. Oh well.

This thread was basically made for me, lol. Open Your Eyes (School of Seven Bells) - This one because of the context around the song. It's about one of their band members who died of cancer. City With No Children (Arcade Fire) - The entire The Suburbs album is extremely cathartic and a very personal album for me, but I'll post just one of the highlights. Let Down (Radiohead) - another song that's personal for reasons I can't talk about. lol Porcelain (Moby) - this is one of my go-to songs for when I'm feeling bad and need to listen to something on repeat endlessly. I could go on (and on, and on...) but then I'll just bore everyone because I refuse to talk about WHY these songs mean something to me. lmao

I have a lot of these. Sia's My Love is one of those songs that punches me in the gut every time I hear it. 30kft by Assemblage 23. My mom passed away in '08. I was a mess, and these songs were really the only thing keeping me together... I'm just going to hide these all under one cut.

This song doesn't apply to any situation I've been in, but it still makes me feel...and a really beautifully preformed duet by Reba McEntire and Linda Davis.

This song doesn't have any particular meaning but it always makes me feel better when I'm down. Where the cowboy bebop fans at.

If you can listen to this without getting teary-eyed, or at least without getting any damn chills, you are heartless and soulless. Congratulations.

Since I'm on the hype train about LIS, this is what I'm listening when I'm going to work and coming back. Trying not to cry is hard The whole OST from LIS is just a one big trap with feels. This one wasn't included in OST, but it was in one of the trailer.It's super positive and I love it

Back in 2000-2001, when I'd met my wife-to-be on a music forum, and I knew she was going to come to the UK from Mexico but it hadn't happened, these two songs, which I'd liked before, became super-pertinent:
(Bear in mind there was no Skype, and international telephone calls were massively expensive. We basically had MSN Messenger and letters...)
