I think I realized what my problem with gaming was. I'm getting burned out on single player games. Stuff like D2 and Battlefront 2 are what I need to be playing until my batteries recharge as it were. So yea if they don't fuck this up I'm all for it. Interesting, because i can only really play one or two matches of Battlefront or Battlefield before i have to put them down. Just feels like passing the time, running around shooting other players with no real meaning. And if you're taking about their story modes, why don't you just play the story of a single player game that's usually better overall than a multiplayer focused game?

Playing one or two matches is perfect because its like taking a smoke break for me. I honestly get bored with whatever game I'm playing after 30 minutes or so now and with most single player games I'll start it up and after like 5 minutes not want to play it. I think gaming is becoming a smoke break.

I think gaming is becoming a smoke break. The ability to play a few matches and then stop is why I got into Overwatch. My puppy is still too young to be able to sit in the living room for hours while I play a game so I´ve been struggling to get into SP experiences since I got him, even short ones, I started the new Uncharted last week and I haven´t been able to pick it up again since. It´s why I've been thinking about picking up Destiny 2.

The problem with single player games (from a strictly economic perspective) is that their potential to earn money is limited in contrast to a popular multiplayer game. After all, if you wanna charge more money for a single player game people have already bought, you'll usually have to cough up some new and significant piece of content like story DLC, which actually requires quite a few resources to make. In contrast, the typical lootbox content (skins, weapons, etc.) is relatively cheap.
They're trying to marry that extra purchase stuff to single player, like they did in AssCreed 498.5, I don't know, the Paris one? And the second Shadow of Mordor is also doing it. However, people aren't as accepting of it yet and single player games also have a finite narrative at the end of which you'll probably stop buying in-game content. That's in contrast to, for example, Overwatch, which a player might be continuously playing for years, years in which they can buy lootboxes for every new event.
So I understand why Bioware is going in this direction, especially with EA at the helm. I guess the argument would be that if Anthem succeeds, they'll make more money to use on other projects, but I really doubt that if Anthem succeeds, we're going to see a lot more single player RPs from them. Why would one stop going where the money is, after all? I rather see them making more Anthem-like games or pulling substudios into the production of the then inevitable Anthem 2.
If Anthem flops, it might mean Bioware will be mercy-killed by EA, but eh, I'm not really seeing a situation here in which Bioware will ever produce content I enjoy anymore, anyway, so really, I'd only find it sad for the people losing their jobs. I'd be happy to be pleasantly surprised, but I think I won't dare optimism at this point.

Even before they released Special Edition and allowed modding on consoles, the PC modding community was still going strong. There are people that have bought the game (some multiple times!) just because of modding. Heck, mods are still being released for all three DA games, even with the more limited modding capabilities of DA2 and DAI. Considering that DAI and now MEA have modding capability that has been put together by the non-paid community, EA could allow Frostbite to have official modding tools, which would generate a lot of goodwill from players. There are things they could do, but they would rather jump on the MP/micro-transaction bandwagon.

I'm actually quite excited for Anthem! I'm going to buy Destiny 2 once I get my paycheck and I hope Anthem is going to be good too. Wishing Bioware all the best truly! I'm not a fan of MMO's like Black Desert or Guild Wars, where I am just aimlessly running around doing stuff. I do enjoy games like Borderlands, Left 4 Dead or shooters though. Anthem is also a completly new IP, which means I can finally dive into a new sci-fi world, without it having to be related to Star Wars. IMO there aren't many sci fi/fantasy games that are actually fun to play together with my friends, so I am glad for any new game that might change that.

Lord knows I tried to get into this franchise just, they're just so samey and really meh to me.

Playing through Destiny 2 right now, they upgraded story elements quite a fair bit. Anthem would have to really deliver more on that front, I think adding romances and more narrative side elements can help them on that front. They can succeed if they do make the most ouf of their narrative abilities, otherwise it will be hard for them cuz D2 has a solid narrative as it is now. They can't just do like say, have just a normal main story path and thats it. Still don't have interest on it though, to be honest.

It had a vastly improved story compared to D1 which is fantastic. I'm not horribly worried about the story front since that tends to be biowares strong point and Edmonton is working on it. Right now I'm cautiously looking forward to new news since D2 revitalized my interest in these kinds of games.

Only way they can convince me with this if it has tons of character development and sex *ahem* romance I mean. But even so, will definitely wait after it releases to see all the content after before even considering purchasing.
