Question for you Anders peeps. What do you think is the story reason for not having an Anders kiss if you side with the mages? It's been a very long time since I've done his romance, so I don't remember what he says during the scene, but I do recall being disappointed that there wasn't a kiss.  Keep in mind I said a story reason, having to do with his mental state, not because you think the devs suck or whatever. He's very focused at the time. I was not really surprised. As I see, he doesn't want to celebrate: this is rather the time to fight. He is concentrating on the future, otherwise, it makes no sense. And... possible reason, he thinks, that he does not "deserve". Perhaps seems weird (many people think, that he's an unscrupulous madman, a psychopath), but he feels bad about the explosion (H: "You are a murderer!" A: "I know" ... "There's nothing you can say that I haven't already said to myself."). The point's his work didn't finish yet. (In friendship, if Hawke siding with the Templars, but let him go away, he come back, to fight for the Mages: "I set the fire, I can't just walk away.") There can come out Justice's opinion again: Focus, do not let to distract yourself!At Templar side he's desperate. He lost everything, only Hawke who remained. Desperately insist to him/her, while says goodbye. As I heard, this "option" –forced him against the Mages, to support Templars–, came with a patch, was not included in the original game. I will never do such a thing, but the idea's not bad: shows, how crushed is he in this moment, and probably Justice twisted: he accepted the Vengeance role here, against his original purpose. ___________ And yes... Helper thinks that the rivalry's a right way with him, the friendship is "maniac", because strengthen his "delusions"… but he doesn't have delusions – everything, what he said, proved. According Helper, the rivalry makes him a better person... What? that man, who doesn't take the responsibility for his actions, and blames Justice for everything, calls his friend (Justice) to a "mad beast", would be "better person"? I don't think so... Sorry for the rant... so: I think the kiss scene is the "reward" for makes him "better person"... Revard to Hawke, who never loved him. I think Helper has a very "strange" idea about a healthy love... – my opinion. (Anders says in rivalry: "I’ll never understand how you can be so antagonistic by day, and so passionate by night." Yes... seems very healthy "love". For Hawke: pure sexual attraction and dominance fight. For Anders: an addiction.) |

But it seems to me that a kiss wouldn't be "celebratory" on either path. The Fenris kiss isn't; it's a "this could be our last moments together" kiss. Anders/Justice doesn't count last moments, only focus on the future, or everything's meaningless. Yes, Anders's an 'Abomination". Justice's a part of Anders, even if he's not malevolent, still a spirit, who has an influence on Anders' mind. It can not be ignored. Anders/Justice thinking differently than a simple man. This moment is the moment of the fight, not the love – according to Justice, and Anders can accept that. They are already merged. And the scene, not lack emotion. I love that. Rival!Hawke get a final kiss, and a crushed lover. Friendly!Hawke get a whole life with him, maybe not the easy one, but worth it. (Of course, the intention was, that see, what a mad monster is he –not even a little kiss!–, but my Hawke(s) can live with this "monster") (Fenris –and everyone else too– is totally different. This isn't his fight. He does it for Hawke, and for his friends. And doesn't have a spirit in his head.) |

I mean, this is a 5 year old game) Essentially, it works in contrast. Rivalmance Anders, in that scene, knows that he will be dead at the end of the day. Either because of the fighting, or by his own hand. He talked about temptation before, and this is him giving in one last time. Getting a small moment of happiness before he dies. It's a goodbye kiss. Nevermore. The friendmance path is an affirmation of their relationship - they went through the worst and Hawke didn't push him away. They don't need that kiss to confirm anything, they're both committed. A: "I'd rather be on the run with you than safe with anyone else." H: "Then we will be fugitives together." They'll have lots of chances to show affection for each other. They promise each other to spend the rest of their lives together, not kissing right then seems to show that they will have time for this later. Also, no, the rivalmance path is not the more just option, driving someone into committing suicide is inexcusable. |

And this is the reason, why (unlike many people) I found Anders friendship, supporting romance one of the best HAPPY end (the other's Fenris' romance). There's no question, that they will be together and support each other until death in good and in bad times. |

Art imitates life my derriere! Also, I can imagine that Hawke's bed-facing left arm is under the pillow and Anders's neck. But Anders's bed-facing right arm seems uncomfortably trapped; it's going to become numb in a few minutes. It's a nice piece, though! XD |
