It's a lot more backstory about Kandros- what made him decide to leave the Hierarchy and actually join the Initiative for real, instead of just as a planted spy.
The tl;dr is that it was Nyreen- she convinces him to break free of the mold like he always said he wanted to do, and like she's managed to do. I really liked their moments together, brief as they were.
