It's been years now since I played a mage, though. That was my second file. Tabris with Zevran was my first one and it's still one of my favorite PC/LI combos ever. But I really like the Mahariel Origin because of how the Eluvians became relevant going forward. |

They're the same, but I always thought the implications of being an elf in the circle were kinda more interesting because of intersectional oppression. The one difference I can think of is there's another elf apprentice you can talk to, and you have a few lines about being an elf in the circle with him. I also think this applies to all elves (can't remember, but it'd be weird if it didn't) but you can chat with Duncan about Grey Warden history and how Garahel was an elf, which always felt more right with the mage origin because you're kinda locked up forever with a bunch of books and would probably be more interested about Grey Warden history than Mahariel or Tabris, lol. |
