so, this series was a complete surprise for me, especially after watching the first two, kind of boring episodes. i almost gave up on watching it, but they had some interesting moments (like slave boat speech and uncensored dick pics. not even kidding, this takes balls ) so i gave it a second chance. and boy am i glad i did. episode 3 has one of the most amazing, sensual gay sex scenes i've ever witnessed on the prime time tv. episode 4 was even better, showing unfulfilled potential and aimlessness in the "lost in translation" style but with a darker twist. i find one of the best strengths of this show is INCREDIBLE sound and music design. even most mundane shit seems like it has monumental significance. it is also a big part of sensuality of the aforementioned gay sex scene. i also love the mythology and belief shaping reality concept, it opens up many nice metaphors that are always tinted with fantastical and greater than life feel. also- look at this main title sequence, it sums up my blabbering perfectly

This is a phenomenal book. Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors.

I'm gonna watch it soon and I cant wait! I havent read the book but I know how awesome Neil Gaiman is for The Sandman i also love the mythology and belief shaping reality concept I love this concept too as stubborn atheist that I am XD It works the same with DC/Vertigo comics deities and divine beings, so it's a given that Gaiman has a pattern here Starz gave me Agron/Nasir in the past, I hope this show will deliver too like Spartacus did! Ps. I cant wait to meet arabic Priapus aka Hello daddy

Ps. I cant wait to meet arabic Priapus aka Hello daddy i'm more of an agnostic, trying to forge my own theories about life death and crap. and yeah, i'm very drawn to this concept too (loved it in planescape torment) because i think it is true (as in ideas do affect reality), although not necessarily in the literal sense (but i admit it's easy to stretch it too far). i LOVE metaphors, i think they describe and infuse life with meaning more and better than life itself ever could. i think i'm a romantic oh, and speaking about romantic, we can expect priapus in american gods show?

Oh I understand you I'm an atheist but I'm super open-minded when it comes to mythology, but I'm not an agnostic, when it comes to fictional stories, mythology is a good starting point in the brainstorming as creative and high five for metaphors, I love them too! oh, and speaking about romantic, we can expect priapus in american gods show? I would die since there's only a book, I think the show is going to be their own thing so.... Maaaaaybeeee Edit. My fav gods are Anubis (no wonder ), Gaia, Amaterasu and Quetzalcoatl, I dont know how deep went the book with the gods but I'm excited =P

mrslothy I CAUGHT UP!!! The show itself is wonderfully weird and I love it. But I must say that the only character that bores me to death is the main character, he's super eyecandy but damn! why is he so booooring, dude wake up!! Spoilers ahead! I fucking love Laura, gosh I love how she dont give a damn about anything, so you are dead and Anubis want to put you into darkness and oblivion? FUCK YOU XD I love her. The fact she is a "zombie" now just gives to her kudos from me. Also, I love how shamelessly she is about sex. I read a lot of sexist comment about this, of course from men. Fuck them. She is awesome! In the first episodes I was annoyed because there wasnt an important female character yet. Also, Salim and the Ifrit are becoming the new obsession of mine, how adorable can Salim be? I'm rooting so hard for these two, and I want so badly they become my new Nagron, plz Starz make it happen again Let Salim find his Jinn and live happily forever!!! Kudos to Gaiman for creating a gay muslim on 2001, two minorities in one I really like Anubis and I want to know more about him, it seems that he is not a jerk of god... Yet.

(now, i'm can't find time to watch epi6) i agree the main char is the least interesting (not even that hot to me) and salim/ifrit are AMAZING and extra +++ for sexually confident women on TV, fuck scared moralists with inadequacy complex

It is risky to come in this thread... I haven't watched any of it yet and plan on doing a tv show binge when it is done.

It was supposed to be 10 episodes, but they ended up cutting an entire episode or two trying to rework parts of the show. I imagine next season will be 10 episodes... and they'll have a better idea of what show they're trying to make

I don't feel like they were really clear. I think they cut some stuff to try to cover the cost of whatever changes they made. I imagine the mix of original/new we see is the mix they settled on (I haven't read the book though so I don't know what that mix is )

Salim x Jinn! Yes, I made it there. The book isn't all that different from the show, and I love drinking the tears of angry homophobes over Salim. I enjoy the show. Yay!
