FO4 is free to try this weekend, so I was wondering if anyone had any mod suggestions. For this first play, I'm really looking for quality of life improvements and the like, mods that you think are indispensable for an improved play experience. Any sort of aesthetic mods I'll worry about if I decide I like the game enough to buy it.

Here are my suggestions for essentials: - Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch
- Full Dialogue Interface (they attempt something like the Mass Effect convo wheel, but there REALLY isn't enough to clue you in as to what you're actually going to say...this is a game-saver for sure!)
- Plenty O' Exploration (opens up lots of boarded up buildings and the such for exploring)
- Crowded Commonwealth (adds scenarios/npcs/lots of flavor to the world/map)
- Scrap That Settlement! (I don't know how much time you'll do crafting for settlements, but this is great. You can scrap EVERYTHING, including, say, skeletons and ghoul bodies rather than having to build and live around them)
Everything else I use is pretty much aesthetic tweaks, new armors, or related to settlement building. I'm on Xbox One, so my choices compared to PC are limited, but if you should ever want recommendations for that stuff, give a shout! There's also some alternative start mods out there–honestly the vanilla game's main plot forces you into a role and it's definitely not great for role-playing in that regard, so for me the alternate start is essential. But if it's a trial weekend, I imagine you'd go vanilla. And it might not bother you, who knows!

I love Darker Nights. Nights in FO4 are underwhelming, but this mod makes me feel more vulnerable at night. I feel I have to plan my trip and take day/night time into account.

This may be a bit late, but if you are still interested in FO4 mods, one of my must haves is the multiple follower mod: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/24081/?I use just so I can have Dogmeat and one or two other companions along ( I romance Hancock and Cait so I like to take them along together), but it also has other features I haven't cared about. I just don't like leaving my dog behind when I'm exploring.

Does anyone know if a mod for having multiple followers at one time is out? or even it is possible? It really bothers me that I can't have at least 2 with me like in Fallout 3 & New Vegas (although I got a mod to increase this).
I'd love to rp a PI and have Nick as my partner and Dogmeat as my tracker dog.

I posted a link a couple of replies above to a multiple companion follower mod. I'm currently running with Piper, Hancock and Dogmeat. (I'm actually using an older, lighter version of the mod I linked because the new one includes some kind of beacons that she places on the Red Rocket, which conflicts with the Spring Cleaning mod.) The version I use is here: www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/19774/?

Deffo going to reply FO4 now with my planned Private Investigator RP, this way I'll be able to add Piper to the mix as an LI

Although with the doggo, LI follower and an extra follower is super great for me!!

I don't know about the limits. I'm using the lite version that is only for the regular companions, but she has versions that allow you to recruit other NPCs that aren't meant to be companions. (I don't know if any dialog or chatter has been added for them. They might just end up being silent followers.) The newest version has a bunch of other options, too. But if you use any kind of scrapping mod to clean up the Red Rocket near Sanctuary, it will conflict, sadly, so I'm sticking with the simpler version) Personally, I'd find more than 3 at once would be kind of a pain. Even with the 3 I have, there's a lot of blocking of doorways and people and dog getting in front of my loot, and Piper and Hancock seem to like to talk at the sae time so I can't hear what either of them are saying, so 3 is my absolute limit, lol. I do love being able to have my 2 LIs and our dog along with me, though
