So which longtime veteran Dragon Age character do you reckon BioWare are going to do dirty in Dragon Age 4? On the flip side, who do you hope will make an appearance, one whom may not have appeared in any Dragon Age material for a while and would like to see again? For me it’s Zevran

I'm deeply worried Merrill are going to be framed as giving in to Solas's whole "for the elves!" bullshit, which pisses me off deeply, considering that Merrill was already done dirty by first BioWare writers claiming that rivaling her - meaning having a human player character telling her to give up the search for her culture's lost history and heritage, all leading up to her destroying the eluvian she devoted years of her life to patching up - was "better" for her, when... Uh, NO. Then they doubled down on the bullshit by having Solas express many similar beliefs to her but HE got framed as being wise for it.
Like I'd love it if Merrill ended up in a close position to him in an effort to undermine and betray HIM, but... I don't have confidence that BioWare will do that.
Also, for fuck's sake, BioWare, Fen'Harel the Dread Wolf is the closest thing to the Dalish having a devil figure, if Lucifer came to you, told you everything you'd been told of his rebellion was a lie, and he wanted you to join him, would you?

So while in the process of playing out a quarantine fueled replay of Inquisition, I realized something.
We always looked at it as straight women getting four romance options, and everyone else getting two, but that's not really true. Straight men and lesbians got to flirt with Harding, with the Inquisitor even being asked about how things are going with her during spa day with Vivienne (who can also be flirted with, though she rejects the Inquisitor in both the base game and DLC) in Trespasser.
Meaning that all the options gay men got in Inquisition were Dorian and Bull, plus the turn down from Cullen.
So Andromeda being released as it was, with one fewer option for gay guys actually ends up seeming not all that surprising - why not short that content, it happened before and no one noticed...

Merrill was also kind of right. In Masked Empire we learn how to activate eluvians and she was almost 100% right even down to who to get the key piece of intel from. Merethari was the villain. Edit: and BioWare wrote the elves going dumb for Fen’Harel, the oppressed becoming evil murderers, and the issue of Sera’s internalized racism being rewarded and written as “fun” is kinda the Canadian flavor of DA to me. Canadians have deeply misguided ideas about being less racist than the USA while they fuck over native people just has hard.

God, do not even START me on Marethari... To sum up the rant that I really want to get started but won’t since I’m typing on my phone, Marethari is the actual cause of the problems in Merrill’s questline and I legitimately view her as having been possessed by the demon all game long.

There’s definitely a lot to support her being possessed. There’s also a lot to support her being involved in some sort of larger plot. She took the clan to Sundermount. Presumably for Flemmeth. The Halla were also killed. People speculate Merrill did it but Merrill’s whole thing is that she is kind and self sacrificing. Where as Merethari sacrificed her whole tribe’s livlihood to do Flemmeth’s bidding, to spy on Merrill, and then to let herself be possessed by a very powerful demon. She was far more reckless than Merrill.

Me every time I start a DAO file: I'm going to play as somebody besides Cousland this time. Also me every time I start a DAO file: Remembers how cute the backstory is between Ser Gilmore and Cousland is with the mod and immediately picks Cousland. Is there any other way to play? But really though, I can't tear myself away from playing as Cousland just because I love the Ser Gilmore and Alistair romances too much! So which longtime veteran Dragon Age character do you reckon BioWare are going to do dirty in Dragon Age 4? On the flip side, who do you hope will make an appearance, one whom may not have appeared in any Dragon Age material for a while and would like to see again? For me it’s Zevran This is just me rooting for my favorites, but I would love to see Sebastian or Blackwall again. I also wouldn't mind more of Sera or Vivienne and I'd like for Aveline and Isabela to make proper appearances and not text/multiplayer cameos. Zevran also deserved better than what Inquisition gave him! I've said it before but those war table things should have been proper story quests with fun/interesting interactions between characters old and new instead of having us waste our time in an empty open world... Also, for fuck's sake, BioWare, Fen'Harel the Dread Wolf is the closest thing to the Dalish having a devil figure, if Lucifer came to you, told you everything you'd been told of his rebellion was a lie, and he wanted you to join him, would you? I honestly think those BioWare writers din't even know their own lore sometimes... I'd love to see Merrill given another chance in the spotlight but yeah...I wouldn't be surprised if they mess that up. So Andromeda being released as it was, with one fewer option for gay guys actually ends up seeming not all that surprising - why not short that content, it happened before and no one noticed... This is something that always annoyed me about Inquisition. Not only was there a complete lack of gay/bisexual NPCs (I'm not counting those codex entries and blink-and-you'll-miss background guys at the party as "representation"), but there weren't even any male characters we could flirt with aside from Cullen...this was a huge step back from both Origins and DA2. That said...I finally started diving into Tevinter Nights and I'm LOVING it! I'm only a few stories in and there have already been a few LGBT characters...so I'm curious how much more there will be by the end. I want to believe that this is a good sign that representation for gay men will be better in the next game. I also wish that these were stories we could experience in game instead of through a book!

I got kinda frustrated with the story Callback in Tevinter Nights, because I’m just like... “This is HERE, instead of DLC?”
Like if I could, I’d swap The Descent for Callback in a heartbeat. The Inquisitor feels superfluous in that DLC anyway, having them investigate Skyhold... I mean, that was at the top of my list of potential DLC ideas.

Yeah there’s a lot of that book that makes me wonder if we’ll fall back into the DAI problem of anything remotely interesting happens in some text buried in the 100th mile of boring desert we walk through. Or happened in the supplemental novels. i actually just finished the DAI DLC for my solas-mance playthrough. I really did not like Jaws of Hakkon much. It was pretty. It was well done but I felt like I was playing the vacation expansion to a Sims game. The descent can rot in hell. Nothing about it is fun besides it made me miss DAO and how much I liked the Deep Roads. I liked Trespasser. Forgot the fun little interactions. It made me feel more things having done the run romancing Solas for the first time. The other time I played it it felt like Witch Hunt Remixed and all I wanted to do was shank someone through an Eluvian. But maybe with the quarantine I am more emotional cause I felt a little something when Solas gave his little speech. Also this one I was like... maybe you should just burn the world down Solas. But I think that’s me projecting my quarantined in the American hellscape angst.

Funnily enough, I had the opposite reaction when I played it last night. “You rotten egg, I will personally make an omelet out of you as I stop you from destroying the world!”
I think I was channeling my anger and frustration at how people are willing to let the world burn so they can squeeze a few more dollars from the already overtaxed population...

That’s kinda how I felt the first time. This time i guess I was more interested in viewing the status quo of Thedas as also destroying countless lives and potentially built upon artificial metaphysics that are destructive to the natural world and may result in the destruction of Thedas irregardless of Solas, unless Thedas changes its ways of purposefully warping knowledge to support the accumulation of power for the Chantry, Royalty, or Magisters. Especially thinking about the wastes that surround Thedas, a cataclysm to the east, a horror land to the west, with meddling forces, frozen land to the south, and the Qunari fleeing something in their homeland. The Blights of course. Red lyrium. The Titans. Etc.
Solas kinda revealed the world is affected by mortal action, where as Thedas is built upon a belief in divine forces maintaining the status quo. Definitely not a pro Solas zealot, but this time I guess I am more interested in learning about what the implications of Solas actions both then and now.

There's a fully voiced mod (that apparently David Gaider helped with) that adds Ser Gilmore from the human noble origin to the game, he's romanceable by both female and male wardens and there are committed romance, open relationship romance (you can romance other characters in-game) or friendship paths www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/851

Just started a new Inquisitor and damn I forgot how much that green lighting in character creation screws you over once the game starts.
(Also didn't see someone brought up the Ser Gilmore mod. I cannot sing strong enough praises for it. Especially as Cousland trash, their relationship is incredible and better than Bi Alistair.)

I’m replaying the series and I just got to the Crestwood quest chain. I forgot how incredibly smoking hot Stroud is in DA:I. Woof woof daddy!

I'm finding myself getting the itch to play Inquisition again, even though it never fails to frustrate me for various reasons.
It's like I keep hoping that, if I try again, it'll become the game I want it to be, that, at the very least, THIS TIME I'll get to romance Cullen with the strapping male Qunari I almost always roll, like I deserve.
