I'm curious to know. I have yet to play all the DLCs tho.

how dare you?
I can't narrow to 2. I can narrow to 4. No, wait, 5.
Dogmeat. He is a good boy.
Deacon. I am always a sucker for the deadpan snarker. If he were a romance option...
Cait. Melt me with that voice.
Hancock. I just love everything about Hancock. His backstory is, to me, the most interesting. He and Cait together are my two favorites to be in a polyamorous romance with.
Piper. My first romance. She did have this unfortunate habit of running ahead of me a tripping floor traps that I wanted to disarm for the sweet sweet copper, so I kind of like to get her perk and then send her back to Diamond City rather than take her everywhere. She's not the best companion in actual gameplay terms. But I love her character design, and her being a journalist. Her paper is named after Benjamin Franklin's paper, and it just really warms my heart how Bethesda worked in all these Revolutionary war themes into the game. Being from New England, I grew up with all this history and monuments, so this location for a Fallout game hits me in the nostalgia feels.
So that's 5, and I'd still like to give a special mention to Preston. Because he gets so much shit from some segments of the fanbase (you know, the dude bros). He's a really likable guy, and a real pleasure to take around the commonwealth. But he also gets left behind as soon as I max his perk. If Fallout had more of a companion system like DA, I'd use him more.
I still haven't played any of the DLCs either, except for Automatron when it came out.
So, I'm going to vote Cait and Hancock in the poll, since I've settled into romancing them together forever, but honestly, so hard to choose.

1) Dogmeat: I adore German Shepherds, and he's pretty much the only companion who doesn't give me guff for picking up random junk. SERIOUSLY, I DO NEED THAT DESK FAN!!!2) Porter Gage: He's evil, but I love his backstory, and I can't help but love the scheming ugly bastard.

1) Curie, because she's adorable.
2) Dogmeat, because same.

I'm gonna try the Cait romance this time but, I want to put off getting her clean for as long as I can. I use waaaaay too many chems in my runs, prefer when she's cool with my junkie ways.

I honestly just don't even think about it while I'm playing. All my bottles of bourbon and whiskey get used as decor for my settlements, and I make a ton of caps selling all my chems. I usually take forever about getting Cait clean just because who wants to go to that shitty corner of the map?

Nick is my favorite by far.
I also really like Piper, Curie, Hancock, and Dogmeat.

MacCready is the best! I can't believe he's only got one vote so far. tragic! Not many people are voting yet though it seems.

I think Deacon is my favorite companion. I spent a lot of time with him when I first played through the game. He was my first companion after Dogmeat. I really enjoyed exploring the commonwealth with him and getting to know him better. He was the first I reached maximum affinity with and I definitely would have romanced him if he had been an option. I have a lot of fond memories of my time with him. I swapped him out for Danse when he became available. I fell in love with the guy and really enjoyed romancing the knight in shining armour after having an unrequited love for Deacon. MacCready was one of the last companions I got, but it was like love at first sight. I feel like I prefer his romance and he is such a great character...also it is pretty hilarious that we knew him as a kid in Fallout 3. I spend most of my time with MacCready now, but I love all three honestly. I also really like Piper and Curie, Cait is decent. I have not had the chance to play Nuka World, but I would definitely like to try out Gage and see his romance. Being from New England, I grew up with all this history and monuments, so this location for a Fallout game hits me in the nostalgia feels. I feel this way about New Vegas. It really adds a lot and brings in a different perspective. I wish I could say the same for Boston. I've always wanted to see New England. I still remember being in tears when playing New Vegas because the atmosphere and radio were just perfect at capturing this "nostalgic feeling". Johnny Guitar.

I loved NV, too. I've lived in CA since the late 80s, so NV also has some familiar and homey feels. I have a small laugh every time I go to a Wells Fargo ATM: there's a logo on the machines that says 'NCR'. That's a faction I'd like to see again in Fallout sometime, though it may be awhile before they head out west again.

Tough choice. I do take Dogmeat with me everywhere, but out of the others, Danse and Deacon are my favourites to wander the Commonwealth with. I did however enjoy going through Nuka World with Gage though, it definitely added to the experience.

Everyone but Cait, tbh.
But seriously, it would probably be Piper.

Deacon. A snarky, smart, freedom fighter with a thing for classic literature who likes costumes? Yes, please. And what the fuck do you mean he's not romanceable? Damn you, Todd Howard. I also voted for Hancock. I found him super skeezy and barely talked to him my first playthrough but then dragged him along everywhere my second and ended up totally falling in love with his character. His romance was surprisingly sweet too.
If I could've voted for one more I'd have gone with MacCready (my husbando in pkaythrough one) because he's awesome. And I love that he's that nasty brat from FO3. And an honorable mention goes to Dogmeat. They did such a fantastic job of bringing him to life in the game. I use a mod that lets him not count as a companion so I can take him everywhere.

Probably Piper and Curie for me. I've installed one of the multi-follower mods so I have both them and a synth version of Ada following me about at present for a girly night out as we go around causing trouble. Codsworth was also fun to have around, and Valentine was interesting. Synth Ada Also another visitor, an alternative to the horde of dalish elves rampaging around earlier: She's also available as a follower which might be interesting. Not my work*, though sadly the mod got taken down, probably as a result of using the original voice files from Bioshock. * well, the crappity outfit is my doing until I retex the 1950s dress into a reasonable approximation, which may or may not ever happen; and generating the missing lip files: given that she already looks rather doll-like, having no facial animations was slightly disconcerting. Edit: done most of her outfit, but I'm now starting to lose the will to live. You'd think on a day when I'm feeling utterly knackered that I'd choose something less mentally strenuous.

Finally finished Elizabeth's outfit. I think I'm okay with the results: I'm not that skilled at modelling in terms of getting the body shape quite right but I'm hoping that her blouse now looks somewhat less like a sack of potatoes. Some things are a bit rough around the edges but I guess I should stop giving myself a hard time comparing my day's worth of efforts to professional modellers who do it for a living! It's probably good enough, and I guess it shows it's possible to do interesting things with the rather boring laundered dress (it's also the basis for my LBD in the character thread). I should probably also create a mod thread rather than posting my randomness all over the place, although strictly speaking Elizabeth is a companion and it'll be interesting to have her tagging along, at least for a while. Her speciality is picking locks and I dare say she'll be less abrasive than Cait (funny how Cait's VA was so much more likeable as Suvi!) although I think my character can handle master locks herself now anyway. Shame the mod got taken down otherwise I'd offer my ropey outfit to its creator, but there's no way they could've hosted it in its current form.

Probably Nick, no Hancock, no Nick! Both.

Actually, that's a point, I need to go and collect Nick. Time for Piper to take a bit of a rest this time. It's a pity it was never designed to do multiple companions, I imagine there could've been a lot of potentially interesting dialogue between Nick and Piper.
