I've been reading this fanfic where Jane Shepard was the commander of the Normandy while her brother John did other missions (same missions as appear in the game but they split them - shot got the spotlight, he was in the shadows). As per normal, Jane dies when the Normandy explodes and is brought back by Cerberus. In this fanfic, John and Kaidan enter into her life again.
I'm not giving more details in case you read the story. However, it gave me the inspiration for a future trilogy run. The idea is that ME1 would be all Jane Shepard. She'd import into ME2 and die with the Normandy. Jane is a Soldier so when going through the reconstruction I'd switch to a different class, possibly Infiltrator. Once waking up, I'd exit the game, do a gender swap thing using Gibbed Save Game Editor, and then see if I can also get the name changed to John.
In my headcanon, John and Kaidan maybe met at Jane's memorial. Perhaps they even started something romantic at some later point. Then, frustrated over everything Jane had learned about the Reapers being ignored, is easy prey for recruitment by Cerberus. This causes a falling out with them, explaining why they aren't together in ME2. Works regardless of romance. Then, in ME3, they'd get together for real.
Anyone know enough about mods to know if what I'm thinking about is even possible? I kind of like the twin thing and want to see how I could make use of it. Someone could obviously do the same with John being in ME1 and then Jane being in the next two.
