Anders is best mage husband. I tried romancing other characters but the thought of him being stuck down in that clinic, just nah. I only ever managed to romance a different character once and that was Fem!Hawke romancing Isabela. I just hated how DA:I made Hawke talk about him, especially if it was a 100% Anders and Mage supporting Hawke. (Nevermind the rest of the mess with Hawke's personality when it came to Warden's and Blood Magic.) It bothers me that Hawke goes back to Kirkwall with Varric, like, where is Anders then? Did he put on a disguise so he could go back with him? Haha yes, I think so! Kirkwall must love him! (I don't think, that Hawke would follow Varric back to Kirkwall without him!)

Though with Varric as Viscount and their former Champion back, I don't think most people could do much about it. (Especially if you had Aveline boot Sebastian's butt out.)

I'm reposting something I wrote on bsn about Anders While Anders is my canon DA2 romance, I keep going back and forth on whether my Hawke let him live at the end or not. BUT I love angst and tragedy so I have this scenario where even if Hawke didn't kill him, maybe Sebastian found him and arrowed him up. And I headcanon a scene in DAI where a figure appears in Skyhold looking for Hawke. It is cloaked and moves stiffly, almost inhuman motions. The crew gathers around to find out who it is, Varric whispers "No, it can't be, he's..." Figure whips off the cloak. Matted blood cakes its hair, feathered robe mostly in tatters, murderknife or arrow sticking out of its back. Corpse like pallor imbued with cracks of blue energy. "Where is the false champion of Kirkwall? Justice must be delivered upon his head!"

"Where is the false champion of Kirkwall? Justice must be delivered upon his head!" Ok FIRST OF ALL, how dare you One of the reasons I love DA is that it often has happy outcomes and...realistic outcomes. So I have two separate world states in my head: the best case scenario world state where Leliana is nice, Carver is going through lyrium withdrawal but managing with the help of Merrill, IB is in a healthy relationship with Dorian, the Inquisitor is able to go into a quiet life with Cullen (still helping hunt Solas but with happy moments along the way), and Hawke and Anders live happily ever after. Then I have my more grimdark world state where Leliana is murderous, Vivienne is Divine and rules with an iron fist, Carver is dead or a Grey Warden doomed to a bad death, the Warden performed the ultimate sacrifice, all of the Awakening Wardens died during DAI, Hawke killed Anders to try to prevent Kirkwall from falling down around him. Neither is more canon to me. They're parallel universe canon!

Otherwise Justice (and even Vengeance! – because this is Sebastian's revenge...) able to accept Hawke's verdict. But why Vengeance wants to remain in a corpse? Sebastian seems would be a nice host...

Otherwise Justice (and even Vengeance! – because this is Sebastian's revenge...) able to accept Hawke's verdict. But why Vengeance wants to remain in a corpse? Sebastian seems would be a nice host... Well in this scenario Justice is using Anders' body as a bloody reminder of what happened at Kirkwall and also has learned enough about emotions from living with Anders to want to use guilt and fear as tactics. He also sees it as finally bringing justice to Anders' killers and thinks Anders would want to "be" there for it. Another angst scenario: I envision the confrontation after the Chantry blows up less as a binary choice between Anders and Sebastian and more as two separate choices. My Hawke was never close to Sebastian, he was more of an acquaintance whom only Fenris could stand for long periods of time. So my Hawke was all too happy to tell Seb to go to hell and run with his tail between his legs back home. Then he had to deal with Anders' fate. So in the worst case scenario, he tells Sebastian to leave and then decides whether Anders should live and fight or die and become a martyr. In my heart of hearts Hawke tells Seb to fuck off but spares Anders. But he can't look his lover in the eye for months, maybe longer, and jumps at the chance to investigate red lyrium with the Wardens. He will eventually get back together with Anders but it's never going to be the same as it was in Kirkwall. Perhaps Viscount Varric will tell Hawke about how the Avvar in Frostback Basin might know of how to separate Anders from Justice.

Can working well with Vengeance. With Justice of course not, because Anders' death was justice for the victims (in comparison Isabela–Anders party banter, Act 3). By the way, if Vengeance doesn't return into the fade and lost his memory (Solas theory about the spirits' "death"), to killing Anders a very bad idea, I don't know, wich worse: to leave him alive as abomination, or freed Vengeance... I see your point, just I never considered Justice as a "problem". My Hawke(s) only were disappointed, that Anders didn't trust better. After the try to convincing the Grand Cleric unsuccessfully, and knowing, what she think about Meredith, to blowing up the Chantry seems not a bad idea...

By the way, if Vengeance doesn't return into the fade and lost his memory (Solas theory about the spirits' "death"), to backstabbing Anders a very bad idea, I don't know, wich worse: to leave him alive as abomination, or freed Vengeance... My Hawke is all about mage freedom but not at the expense of innocent, unrelated lives. Being caught in the crossfire is unfortunate, but being deliberately attacked as a message is not okay in his books. So for him, he is holding on to the memory of the man Anders was when they first met, passionate about people being free and happy more than focused on retribution or deciding to become judge and executioner. It's probably good if the DA series never revists Anders as there are too many variables in his story to do them justice (no pun). But it would be interesting to see Justice/Vengeance again in some form, in the Fade or possessing someone else/Anders' corpse. I think we should get more involved with spirits and their nature in DA4.

Hawke and Anders are happy together in all my playthroughs. I keep meaning to complete a Fenris romance, but so far I always end up with Anders and Hawke/Anders always run away together. I will basically never pick an option less than just staying friends with Anders and having him help with a pro-mage ending, because I'm not as flexible with the story as some people. I usually get in mind a path I like the best and then I only go through slight variations. lol

But it would be interesting to see Justice/Vengeance again in some form, in the Fade or possessing someone else/Anders' corpse. I think we should get more involved with spirits and their nature in DA4. There wasn't a peaceful solution. I know, hard to defend such a cruel act, but a rebellion/war has innocent victims. In fact, almost every victims are innocent. And who is unrelated? The mothers/sisters and templars in the Chantry? The non-mage civilians? No one is unrelated, every family have a chance having mage chield(ren). What would have been the solution? Peaceful demonstration? But who would be the demonstration crowd? The Mages, this is clear, but where? In the Gallows, in the corridors? In such a world, nothing happens when someone does not force it. Someone need to start the change. If not, then nothing happens. The bloodless change is very rare. It's "easy to support freedom, until no one to died to achieve it".I don't want to see Anders (nor Hawke), Justice/Vengeance would interesting, if the DA4's story would be decades later – but I admit, I'm afraid, my rainbow-sunshine world would be destroyed. But Justice/Vengeance is a very interesting spirit I also loved him in DAA too. In DAA I felt sympathy for Anders (of course, with Circle Mage origin), but my real favorite was Justice. (Probably weird, but I found him very interesting.) When I heard, that they are merged, I was very happy with this decision, and I was not disappointed. I also like Cole, so I'm absolutely into for the idea to see more spirits.

I choose a way, and I going on this (pro-mage, mostly radical, friendship with Anders). The difference only in the minor decisions and in romances: Anders or Fenris, and friendship or rivalry with the companions (mostly friendship with all, except Fenris), Carver Templar or Warden (mostly Templar) and Hawke's personality (but mostly sarcastic, the difference is the mix with the others: being a dick, or being disappointed, good/angry guy – this will determine whether he is friendly [more patient] or rival Fenris).

I basically always have these same aspects: Sarcastic Hawke (male), romance Anders and run away with him, pro-mage. A lot of the time I just pick the same choices, but roleplay different motivations. Like, when I played a mage Hawke, I was very radically pro-mage and it was personal. When I played a rogue, I was more laid back, but couldn't side against them because of Anders and Bethany. For the siblings, I like Bethany in the Circle and Carver in the Wardens. Bethany is the Circle is an interesting narrative, but I can't put Carver in the Templars knowing I'm going to do everything I can to fuck them over in the future. lol Plus, I think Carver matures better and moderates his views more in the Wardens. I also just like the Wardens a lot more, even if they have some shady aspects.
