I admit: I never liked those fan creations, what portrayed Anders as he would celebrate the explosion. I think, he was rather horrified and sad. Of course, he was enthusiastic to have started the rebellion, and sees a better future, but he was not happy with the victims, nor even with the destroyed Chantry. He was Andrastian. Despite, that he questioned many of the Chanty's doctrines, I don't think, he hates the religion. (But perhaps, I'm alone with this concept.) This man doesn't celebrating on the chantry ruins (very good work with the face expressions, I suppose): I agree. Anders tried to use text in the chant to support his position rather than trying to poke holes in the chant. I know some people don't care for conparisons between mages and queer people, but it's a lot like when people try to point out contradictory Bible verses or shoddy translations rather than wanting to throw they baby out with the bath water and just claim that Christianity is superstition or something similar.

Literally the only fault in Anders character is that he feels bad for killing people who so obviously deserved it. Sure, he's not actually celebrating. But he should be. P.S. Christianity is superstition, or something similar.

Christianity is superstition, or something similar. No, I think, he shouldn't. In my scenario, Justice not turned into demon, and Anders is not a psychopath. One thing is that violence is inevitable, but never something, what should cause celebration. The end result can be celebrated. (Perhaps, I'm too soft. A flower child!) UPDATE: On the other forum in the moment I defend Anders' war and the Chantry explosion against the "peace"... I'm not too popular with my opinion. There I'm a bloodthirsty cruel person, who want to see the innocents suffer...

I headcanon that Varric is with the Inquisitor when meeting the Avvar shaman and when he returns to Kirkwall he tells Hawke to take Blondie on a field trip there for some...spiritual release. This perhaps would be the best solution for both of them, if Anders considers it safe (I don't think, he wants to risk him), but, Justice's presence (as I know) slow down the process of taint. True: if Justice remains with him, Anders still must moderate his anger, and abstain from drunkenness. But: if Vengeance already a demon, then must exorcise, but... I suppose, if Anders wants to kill Vengeance, then Vengeance would kill him – or at least try to kill. Their mind in one, Justice/Vengeance know his thoughts, just as he know, what Justice/Vengeance thought. Thinking about Anders having to keep Justice from turning into Vengeance reminds me of vertigomez sharing a fic with me on the Sera thread (about Merrill, long story) where Hawke was left in the Fade in DAI and a romanced Fenris tries to get him back. Spoilers for the fic, not the game {Spoiler} Hawke had stayed alive in the Fade by merging with a Spirit of Courage and defeated Nightmare. He then had to remember to embody Courage when he returned to the world, which was an interesting idea.
Since Hawke was always getting into trouble already, it wasn't much of an issue, since courage isn't the absence of fear but acting in the face of that fear.

Hm, I don't think Joey ever said what path he was going to take. I'm curious now!

Despite, that he questioned many of the Chanty's doctrines, I don't think, he hates the religion. (But perhaps, I'm alone with this concept.) I actually agree - Anders very clearly thinks of the explosion as an act of necessary monstrosity, and although unapologetic, understands that he needs to be held to account ('there's nothing you can say to me that I haven't already said myself') - I've written enough fanfic on the subject, lord jesus. But dwelling constantly on mass murder and the definition of a martyr and the ethics of revolutions is boring, so I certainly don't mind a little exaggerated, facetious humour now and then. And Anders definitely doesn't hate Andraste, but southern Andrastianism is a big "jury's out". If you actually look at his dialogue, he's one of the more fervent believers in Andraste Herself in the cast - topped only by Sebastian, maybe; his beef isn't with the idea of faith itself but more with what he sees as a thousand years of Chantry lies and distortion.

Yeah if religions focused on charity and spiritual growth like it seems like they should I'd be all for them. It just rarely works out that way sadly. Sorry don't mean to get political though.

That's what I meant. It's important to be an organization because many people are looking for their way and waiting for help, but at the moment when it becomes a political factor, it will be corrupt, that's inevitable. People, who looking for political power, not faith and charity arrive, and take the important positions. And they want more power. The people's fear can be a good reason to take more power: so the people MUST fear from something.
