I noticed a distinct lack of a Jade Empire thread, and considering how much this game means to me, I couldn't let that stand. Between KOTOR and Mass Effect, BioWare produced a fantasy Chinese martial arts/magic RPG. While sadly lacking a sequel (much as I still hold hope, a ten year gap can put a damper on that hope), this is still a great gem of a game. And BISEXUAL LOVE INTERESTS. Sky Silk Fox Whatever else can be said of the game, this one will always hold a warm place in my heart, because Sky was my first M/M romance.

I loved Jade Empire and it contains a lot of core ideas and themes that BioWare would use for Mass Effect & Dragon Age. I loved it's combat system, it's probably one of BioWare's best systems and Silk Fox is bae

The Jade Empire setting was a breath of fresh air in an industry that keeps churning out the same high fantasy setting over and over again. It's a damn shame that they still haven't gone back to that well. And honestly, for all that Sky's romance with the male Spirit Monk shows its age, I'd still rank it in my top three favorite M/M romances BioWare has ever done, easily. Just an amazing game all around.

I want to play this game but it's like in the bottom of my list because I dont want to be a jerk to the women to romance Sky, I just cant stand that, so maybe in the future, or maybe Biowhur does the right thing, make a remaster with a more accessible Sky romance without being an asshole to the women and without the gay kiss being censored. I'm not that interested right now, even though their east-asian inspired mythology is cool as fuck.
edit. aw sorry for being such a downer >___< I totally get those of you who played years ago and experienced a videogame gay romance first time, but I'm talking as someone who just found out Bioware games last year

No worries! Yeah, the fact that the game requires you to actively turn down Dawn Star and Silk Fox is a serious pain (and it honestly gets frustrating in context - Dawn Star, you've known me our whole lives, you don't know that I'm only interested in guys?!). After much trial and error, I feel like I've figured out the least awful path on the subject, but yeah, it bothers me all the same.
But considering Sky was my first same sex romance, when I first played the game in 2007, still coming to terms with my sexuality, yeah, the game's permanently enshrined in my heart. Obviously someone playing it for the first time now will have a different experience.

I really enjoyed the game. I got it for free "on the house" on origin. I was thrilled to get to try it since it had very manageable pc requirements. I used the gay patch that made the romance a little better, but yeah it sucks you have to be an ass to the ladies to get a romance with Sky. I thought about doing another run as a female since it's easier-but nah-gay bang or GTFO of here game. So yeah I'll just be an ass to the ladies again if I re-play. Sky is totally worth it. Though other than playing with the morality system there wasn't much of a reason for more than one run.

Even if the excuse of "those were other times" it's bullshit to me, I understand the journey that Bioware have been doing and the long journey this company still has ahead (well if their SP games survive to multimadness) when to comes to lgbtq rep. It's kinda shame the m/m romance is tainted by heteronormativity, because Sky is hooooooooooooooooooooot.

here's the way I did it: (from the wiki) In Chapter Two, however, the conversations become more important. After completing various major events of the chapter, Dawn Star will want to talk to the player about her experiences — if players ask how she is and listen to what she says, the romance plot can continue, whereas if they tell her that they are not interested, the romance plot will stop.
Silk Fox: when Silk Fox has joined the party, the player can talk to her about her gift. If players are dismissive of it, she will decide that "it would be best if we restricted this relationship to business"

If players are dismissive of it, she will decide that "it would be best if we restricted this relationship to business" That's the easy way to do it. You can be a bit nicer (to Silk Fox, at least) but it takes some finesse. First of all, the convo where you start to lock in Sky's romance is the one when he starts talking about the Eternal Companions, so you'll need to shut down both the women before you have that conversation - if you hit it first, reload a save. With Silk Fox, if you talk to her long enough, you can ask her who her first love was, she'll ask you if you like anyone in the party, and you can tell her that you like Sky. That ends the romance gracefully. Dawn Star has always given me trouble, but DG might know how to handle her better than I do.

I still love that I have to turn down other potential LI in game before talk to Sky. It's make sense for character who secretly bisexual. And like OP, SKY is my first love in game too. He always have special place in my heart.

Me taking notes when I play to dodge all the womenz Glad you can do that with one of them edit. Just out of curiosity, can you guys tell me how the classes work in this game? there's a mage-like class? is Sky a rogue-like class? warrior-like class? mage-like class?

You can choose where your character focuses on using the style system - there’s Physical styles that (obviously) involve fists or weapons, or magical and transformation styles that utilize the Chi stat. It’s always seemed pretty simple and intuitive to me once you start playing.
There aren’t specific classes in the game, though the prebuilt characters will favor different styles through their stats. But you get to choose what stats you invest it, and you can augment skills through gems that offer a boost to different stats.

I really like to be different to all my romance options, but I'm totally liking the idea of chi-based powers so I hope he's more sword/fists based. you cant customize your character I think?

Yeah, Sky’s an exclusive sword wielder, so if you favor magic style, you’re good - hell, I’m mostly about swords myself, and I like to think we make a good pair anyway.
There is no character customization, just a few precreated characters to choose from (the cutscenes are prerendered and feature the Pc, so unlike with other protagonists, you can’t customize), but you can customize the stats and not be locked in to a build for, say, a physical fighter if you prefer playing a magical one, just because you like this design better than that one.

Something you should know, though - some enemies are immune to certain attack styles. So you can play a character who mostly uses magic, but there will be times you'll have to switch to physical or weapon styles to kill demons or the like. Jade Empire isn't really built around classes the way most RPGs are, it's kind of expected that you'll switch between styles as you play. But you can at least build a character with a really strong focus on one specific type of attack, so it's not all bad.

I've been looking at the characters and I like the one in your avatar =P the big one is hot but I can not relate that much (I usually like that type as romance option ) and the shirt-less one is too "alpha male" looking for me. I think the one in your avatar is balanced so he would be a mix of magical and physical (I like being an arcane warrior so I think it's fitting)

Hell, at this point, I'd take ANYTHING - a sequel, a novel, a comic series, a damn artbook... SOMETHING that indicates that there is some chance of this universe continuing.
