...I dunno if I'll actually have time to roleplay in this, but you started talking about different universes colliding and I got hit with an idea. If a bunch of different universes are coming together, you'd think the infrastructure of whatever city the game takes place in would be kind of a mess - you'd have several different technologies, magics, and probably a handful of other flavors of weird that were brought together during the convergence. That sound like something that could work for everyone? I'm toying around with the idea of playing a mage-engineer whose job is just to keep the lights on and the water running. Edit: Although if the game is taking place a long time after the convergence, that might not actually make a lot of sense. Hmm. In my conception of it, the "convergence" is ongoing. It's been happening for centuries, and is still happening. One day you might be fine, the next it starts raining cars through a hole in the sky. That's epic! I love it.

Man these people must have a high tolerance for dangerous bullshit D: Permanent settlements must be pretty rare if stuff like this can happen. Can rifts open anywhere or are there areas where these sorts of happening are contained? And now I'm thinking of primarily nomadic communities packing up at the first signs of a rift, oh! Or some crazy ones actively following them

XD The idea is to have a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, so probably there are wildly different environments where it's handled differently. I imagine MOST rifts are small, usually big enough to allow one person to come through, and they come and go spontaneously. But they CAN come in any size, and there would be occasional "riftstorms", where a lot open at once, or a big one occurs. There might be a few rare, stable ones, that are used routinely as portals to other dimensions. Maybe people use them for travel and trade?

What I'm thinking now is that "The Convergence" should be the name of the setting, as well as/instead of the phenomenon.
Our characters have the misfortune of being born in (or being transported to), the point where realities overlap and bleed into each other.

Also I kinda want it in an rp setting instead of dnd bc it's at your own pace and we don't have to be all online. But like it could be too slow and the random events that happens will not be as impactful. Idk

Most should probably be born in to preserve that mystery around it for long term plots, some can be transported. Just a thought. Though is there another word other than convergence? Don't want to too blantantly rip off witcher or legend of Korra lmao

But like it could be too slow and the random events that happens will not be as impactful. Idk If we're going for an urban fantasy feel, it kind of makes sense that people would find out about random events fairly slowly. You wouldn't need everyone to be there for the event, we could play out reactions over the course of in-game weeks. Not sure how that would work in practice, though. What I'm thinking now is that "The Convergence" should be the name of the setting, as well as/instead of the phenomenon. Our characters have the misfortune of being born in (or being transported to), the point where realities overlap and bleed into each other. Don't want to too blantantly rip off witcher or legend of Korra lmao The... intersect? Online thesaurus doesn't have any good suggestions. Or the nexus, but I feel like I've seen that somewhere else. Edit: Whoops, missed something. Hang on, I haven't had time to fully think about it. XD The idea is to have a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, so probably there are wildly different environments where it's handled differently. There might be a few rare, stable ones, that are used routinely as portals to other dimensions. Maybe people use them for travel and trade? Do we want to have stable connection to other worlds, or do we want to be mostly cut off from everywhere else? That's gonna change a lot of the setting depending on which way we go. Personally I'd cast a vote for being cut off, but I'm good either way.

FoelheI get you. I guess I can enforce certain things like, an earthquake happening in the middle of two people's conversation if we wanna do it that way. We'll probably stick to Convergence till we find something better then. I too support the mostly cut off option, it'll drive more people to study the phenomenon or have the desire to travel/revisit their supposed ancestral home time/planet/etc.

pessimistpanda That's true. A qunari is just as much not human as a Krogan, I suspect. In my D&D session, I'm playing a Tiefling variant, and I basically morphed James Cameron's Na'vi with Abe Sapien and Drell with my DM's permission. I love an open and honest DM because he lets me do whatever I want because all he cares about is killing my characters.

Adding onto what panda said, we decided in favour of this setting bc it allows cross genre stuff like sci-fi + urban fantasy + medieval fantasy etc etc. a gaylien can fall in love with a knight and that's beautiful.

[also prob looks like oscar isaac or ? ? ? ?] We might as well. I still want to be a magical creature expert, but instead of being a zookeeper, maybe he wanders around and studies all the weird and wonderful shit that pops through the rifts. "Oh shit, this one secretes sulphuric acid through its pores. I hope there's a flesh-printer nearby that can give me a new hand."

Hmm, I'm not sure about what concept to run. I think i'm having trouble focusing on what I want, there's so much to choose from I usually like to play characters forced on the fringes of society, who claw their way upwards out of nothing. I wouldn't mind fleshing out that nomad idea as well, maybe someone who chases after rifts to find strange artifacts to sell for wealth. Oh or someone who's been dramatically changed due to crossing over or through being in close proximity to a rift?? Though, pessimistpanda, your "zoo keeper" idea has me thinking about the other side of that; a creature who's being kept for study and wants to escape, either to go back home or just to get revenge on their captors. (Ugh I post so slowly >0<)

Your idea made me think of ley lines, paths of energy that connect to places of power or node points. It's been said that places like Stone Henge were built on a ley line. Maybe it could be a way for people to try to map where a rift is likely to manifest?

I probably just watch too many Stonehenge documenatries. >.<

RE: Talking unicorns: Red could just be a genetically modified, super intelligent unicorn? Sort of like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aren't like average turtles . I totally missed this and it's super old so, whoops. An origin story for Red Fox eh? All I know is that his bare abs deflect bullets.
