This thread is for the setting and probably discussion. There will be other threads, 1 for the actual rp, 1 for bios only, and whatever else.
Current setting is prob some far off planet in some galaxy (give me names ppl) where there's technology and known magic. Anyone interested in "GM"ing this and having like secret plots can come to me in PM.

As long as there's a magical creature zoo, and I can be a keeper working at that zoo, I'm good.
"Make sure to stop by the Kraken tank to watch him juggle at 11, and again at 1!"

Hmmm not sure about a zoo. I mean if there's going to be centaurs in the rp wouldn't there be talking krakens or what not and then the issue of oppression/captivity? Maybe a circus instead? Idkkkk

Idkkkk I was working with the premise that some beings (anything that is half-man, for instance), would be regarded as a "person", with all the rights that entails, while some, like, say unicorns, would be on the levle of non-human animals. But I guess that pops the balloon of anyone who wanted to be a talking unicorn. I'll think of something else.

For the setting: what if instead of a planet in our universe, it's an alternate universe? That just seems easier to me.
In the lore of The Witcher, they mention an event called the "convergence", where different dimensions collided and created their world.
We could use a similar justification. Random tears in space/time dump people/animal/buildings/entire landmasses into our world, and our civilisation is cobbled together from the leftovers of other universes. Lol.

Cool. That would give us the opportunity to do what we wanted. Introduce weird stuff as well. Probably that's how the world was created like thousands of years ago, part of the plot could be about people discovering the origins, maybe some of them want to go back to the original world to see their ancestral 'birthplace'.

RE: Talking unicorns: Red could just be a genetically modified, super intelligent unicorn? Sort of like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aren't like average turtles .

Ooh, and this is a great way to let people play a bunch of different kinds of characters while giving an explanation taht affects the world/lore. Cool. That would give us the opportunity to do what we wanted. Introduce weird stuff as well. Probably that's how the world was created like thousands of years ago, part of the plot could be about people discovering the origins, maybe some of them want to go back to the original world to see their ancestral 'birthplace'. Hmm would this be like a mass mass movement? Perhaps with some sort of disastrous consequence for "reversing" the flow of displacement? Maybe it's only supposed to happen one way, and there's a group/s who're trying to solve this problem. There's quite a lot that could be done with this setting.

Well I guess things pop up from time to time, at different places from different places all the time? And yeah, like maybe one group tries to "open" these cracks to go back or just to explore/study it and shit happens, that's like just after we 'start' the rp officially (to give people time to interact and things) so it'll be like a first event kinda thing that brings our characters together (pre-estab relationships or otherwise).

Could there be an element about the main point of origin for the convergence now being a Hub for all things "new" (but are really just ancient tech things)? I am in a D&D session about an ancient city now being reconstructed and it has become a HUB for ancient artifacts, knowledge, weapons, etc... but... some things are cursed and better left buried. I'm a minor character, but I dig up some Mummy that causes some terrible shit. I have a useless degree in anthropology, so I am well-aware of the opinion that sometimes things are better left lost. Things disappeared for a reason. Anyways, I'd love to be a character that initially is a Convergence Fanboy, a rogue academic type, but he changes his tune once shit starts to fly. "I did not mean to start worshiping a killer kraken. Again. Ugh, college."

There could definitely main points, like well a few areas more concentrated than others that have been getting more concentrated over the years (otherwise the shit would have happened earlier bc ppl/non-ppl would have investigated etc etc, also not just one main point tho bc that would be too obvious) Perhaps a cycle where things pop up more often than normal years? On of the research teams start to notice some pattern etc etc?

The Doctor Oh shoot, you're right. I totally forgot this is many years after the Convergence. Well, hmm, maybe there are hot spots, like Rifts, that happen in certain locations more often than not due to magnetic bullshit I never understand when shows explain it to me.

And some kind of sciency bullshit we can just make up as we go along. (Rifts remind me of DAI lol) I'm thinking like there's like actual rifts (for the hotspots maybe), and like just minute rifts (other places) that just appear and disappear immediately after they pop their shit out like it could be a giant thing but the rift is still small at times.

I was thinking of DAI + doctor who's cracks in time and space.

I'm very into "escapist" literature, more so the scifi kind but Mass Effect can't seem to get the gay right.

...I dunno if I'll actually have time to roleplay in this, but you started talking about different universes colliding and I got hit with an idea. If a bunch of different universes are coming together, you'd think the infrastructure of whatever city the game takes place in would be kind of a mess - you'd have several different technologies, magics, and probably a handful of other flavors of weird that were brought together during the convergence. That sound like something that could work for everyone? I'm toying around with the idea of playing a mage-engineer whose job is just to keep the lights on and the water running.
Edit: Although if the game is taking place a long time after the convergence, that might not actually make a lot of sense. Hmm.

It's been happening for centuries, and is still happening. One day you might be fine, the next it starts raining cars through a hole in the sky.
