I kind of like this thread over there, but I feel like some of my readings will be more appreciated here. I'm actually reading two books (Kindle and physical) but only one has really grabbed my attention. This one has had me on the edge of my seat (so to speak), it isn't sci-fi or fantasy, but it is about two guys in a relationship and all the drama that's come out of it because one is a footballer in Australia. I've literally had to put the Kindle down at times because of being so anxious about what might happen. I can't even lie back and read it from below because my hands are shaking. Hard to believe a book has got me this worked up. It's the second in a series, though not sure how many there are. Anyway, it's this:

Reading a lot of hard sci fi right now. Going between Proxima by Stephen Baxter and Revelation Space by Alstair Reynolds. I actually need to start reading a lot more.

I have a 22 book reading challenge on Goodreads. I've got 17 complete. I wouldn't be surprised if I finished the one I'm currently reading tonight.

Finished Tigerland super fast. I think I read that in under three days. I'm also reading The Dystopian spell but have started in on this old favorite. The lead in the Dystopian Spell is bisexual while the one in Magic's Pawn is gay and it came out in 1989.

I've got some much shit that I've bought and still haven't read, but I suppose one more wouldn't kill me.

Though it's a romance book I try to stay about from the m/m designation. That's largely been subverted by straight women who write for straight women and is, as I see it, "porn with a plot". This book has to gratuitous sex. We know without a doubt when it's about to happen but the details are irrelevant. It's not important to the story other than knowing these guys are in a loving relationship that includes sex.
Tbh, I'm not sure the guys on the cover do justice to the footballer in the book. He's quite tall and muscular, which can't be said for the other one.

I would suggest reading the forever war since its basically what Iraq and Afghanistan have become.

I tried to read some book called "Fire and Flint". It was one of those m/m books I got for free from something called BookBub, which finds Kindle books based on my interests. It was terrible. The immediate attraction from one character to another where he was practically in love at first sight. Then the huge percentage of gay cops in one town. Then information about a judge that contradicted itself within several pages. I consider it to be unreadable. Instead, I'm reading "The Cost of Business", a sci-fi book that I probably also got for free.

I've been finishing up Brothers of the Wild North Sea. I've been really impressed with the writing and depth that the author put into it. A Christian monk and a viking in the Dark Ages sounds ridiculous, but the whole thing really works.

I have nothing against porn or explicit sex scenes but I'm a romantic when it comes to m/m romances. I want a fade to black rather than details.

big yes! i tried to read some m\m written by women(idk if straight) and they were so cringe worthy(too much sex and corny dialogues) its not even funny... and a recent scandal considering one goodreads author comes to mind - there was a supposedly gay male author that had written a lot of dark romance books full of cheating and other unhealthy stuff and everybody praised how he depicts a realistic gay man's life but then it had been recently found out that he was actually a straight woman who used her husband's image ahaha i knew i didnt like this author for a reason or i just hate such plotlines - all gay men are promiscious and cheat and stuff blergh however there are rare good pieces in m/m genre that are written by women: Cut and Run seriesthough after 7th book the author gained a star fever, talked back to fans in a very rude manner, didnt like the constructive criticism and stuff and her new books are kinda a mess for me idk still those books introduced me to m/m romance genre so it deserves its place in my favorites By degrees series 3rd book isnt out after a lot of years but i really like the writing Hell or High Water Series and Dirty Deeds Series by S.E.Jakes after a long silence the author is back in town so hopefully the news books will be here soon Anything by Cara Deeand for our werewolf lovers Howl at the Moon Series and The Tameness of the Wolf Series (though i didnt read the last book due to poor reception idk what happened to the author) her contemporary series are good too : The Recon Diaries SeriesKeep in mind, all those series have explicit sex scenes but are very romantic and plot heavy as well

This is non-fiction, buuut I'm reading Unequal Childhoods by Annette Lareau and it's SO FUCKING GOOD. Also painful, because reality. I love insightful, well-researched socioeconomic commentary. 😍

Bought two more King books to add to my collection last night, Carrie and Pet Sematary, will read Pet Sematary first in prep for the new movie version that will be out next year. At the mo I'm switching back and forth between "Night Shift", a collection of short stories by Stephen King, almost done with it and Women and Power a Manifesto by Mary Beard. It's very interesting and infuriating at the same time!

I've just read Assassin's Creed Odyssey novel and The Hunger Games books. Plan to read Violet Evergarden and Spice&Wolf novels. I read mostly on my phone because I'm absolutely addicted to it and can read literally everywhere, walking on the street included. I also have kindle and read on it from time to time. It's been a few years since I've read anything on paper

I was rereading a few H.P. Lovecraft stories the other day, and when I was reading The Shadow Over Innsmouth it occurred to me that a number of people on this forum would probably have a very different reaction to the ending than the one I think Lovecraft intended.

Just finished Things I'll Never Forget: Memories of a Marine in Vietnam. Got really emotional toward the end, with the author talking about the people he'd lost during his tour. Decided to start reading a new book. I probably got it for the cover. I don't have high hopes for the story and it's not unknown for me to drop a book if the story is too bad. I once stopped reading a book with too much exposition. It spent too much time telling me what's going on instead of letting it unfold naturally in the story. I don't need explicit detail on a lot of things. Anyway...
