Who do I have to blow to get some JRPG Discussion up in here? What's your favourite? (Clearly not Dragon Quest). Which ones suck? What new ones are you looking forward to? Are there any where you can be gay? I dunno, I never found any.

JRPGS!

I am VERY picky with JRPGs tbh, mostly due to the fact that I can't stand most characters in them and the annoying tropes. I haven't played a lot of Dragon Quest, I did love one of the DS ones...where you play... I think this angel? And there's a train. Another one that's in the Dragon Quest line is the Monster series, it hits all the right buttons! Sadly they gave up on it. But there's always Siralim which was heavily inspired by the Monster series! The Shin Megami Games were amazing, at least before....Apocalypse. Ugh. Nocturne is forever one of my favorite games. Persona is also great, I am playing P5 at the moment, my favorite of the series might be Innocent Sin. Digimon: Cyber Sleuth is amazing, you guys should try it if you're a fan of the monster games. Since you can digivolve de-digivolve to learn all types of skills you can have which ever Digimon you want in the party. Honestly give me a game where I can have my monsters around and where I can train them and all that good stuff and I'll be all over it.

I did quite like it, but VIII is far and way my favourite of the series. You can get VII and VIII on 3DS now, and a lot of the classic ones were ported to DS a few years back. VIII and some of the other games have a monster collecting element, if that's what you like, but it's side content that doesn't usually kick in until some ways into the main story.

But I borrowed the game from my future brother-in-law, and I remember telling him that I met some character named "Cloud" and the game seemed to think that was a pretty big deal, and he laughed and was like, yeah he's kind of an important character.

I loved Tales of Symphonia to death, then I tried the sequel and I couldn't even finish it because of how bad the protagonist felt, and haven't checked out other Tales game yet. Not sure if Baten Kaitos is one too but that one was pretty fun but I never finished it lol.

Well, I dunno what role he plays in Tactics, but for people who haven't played VII, the cameo would be meaningless.

Not sure if Baten Kaitos is one too but that one was pretty fun but I never finished it lol. Every main Tales game has a different world and protags, so there might be some you like. I found Tales of Xillia 1 & 2 to be average, Zestiria was painfully bad (mostly because the gameplay was shit). I really liked Berseria though. The protagonist was marketed as an "anti-hero" and I was like "Lol, okay Tales, it's cute that you're trying", but I was actually really surprised by the awful things she was prepared to do to get what she wanted.

I just finished Tales of Graces a few months ago. It was really good, I enjoyed it. It was nice to see a good story about childhood friends growing up and how they changed over time.

I got like... 60 hours in, put it down, and i think i forgot the entire story, and I don't have the willpower to play through it all again.

I haven't really played many JRPGs. I tried FFXIII (bad game to enter that franchise) and Tales of Graces. That's really it. I did recently watch a playthrough of Masquerada Songs and Shadows which is a JRPG style even though it's not from Japan. I believe the studio is based in Singapore. There is a gay companion in the game and he's a cool character, although his story revolves around his sexuality and is very heavy handed. It was not as organic as some of Bio's gay stories have been and feels designed to preach to straight people about how gays are people too. But if you can overlook that it looks like a fun game.

So when I got to the end of the vanilla game I thought I was almost done. And then the epilogue part turned out to be longer than the main game!

I credit Final Fantasy VIII as being the video game that really made me a gamer. I had already been playing games of different genres from Super Mario Brothers to things like Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil...but it was FFVIII that really drew me into the world of gaming. I still remember playing the game for the first time on a Pizza Hut promotional demo disc. I hadn't played anything like it before, and I was instantly hooked. I spent countless hours playing through the game and immersing myself in the world. It started my love for RPGs and from there I went on to play others gems like The Legend Of Dragoon, Dark Cloud, Okage Shadow King, and more. I wouldn't say I'm a fan of the series though. I've only played Final Fantasy VIII, X, X-2, XII, and the original Crystal Chronicles. I love them all for different reasons, with VIII and X being very close to my heart. I can't imagine what I'd be like without them. They were an important part of my younger days.
Tales Of Symphonia is another RPG I spent countless hours on back in the day. It was so much fun going through the game with my siblings. The characters, soundtrack, the world...it was all just wonderful to get lost in. I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of my most-played games. When I found out they were releasing the game in HD for modern consoles, I immediately jumped at the chance to play it again. It was just as good as I had remembered and still as fun as it was all those years ago. I really would love to play it again...but I can't imagine playing through it alone... The sequel? Awful. I couldn't play past the intro before quitting. You don't need to fix what isn't broken. The only other Tales game I've played is Tales Of Zestiria. I played several hours with my brother and genuinely enjoyed it. I can't remember why I ever stopped, but I regret not finishing it.
I played Chrono Trigger a few years back. It was a pretty good one and I do intend to play through it again someday.
