Who do I have to blow to get some JRPG Discussion up in here? Me, obviously. Was that not clear? You haven't played any JRPGs since FF VIII, lol.

Well okay, what do you want to discuss? By now, you should know better than to ask me that in public. This is such a clean and shiny new thread. It's not new, lol. Nobody posts in it, that's all.

I haven't played a JRPG in a while, but I do have a lot on my shelves. I will have to look through and find something fun to discuss about.

I fell in love with the Tales Series after playing Symphonia as a teenager. The ones I think were most successful with the series' main appeal were Symphonia, Abyss, and Xillia 2.

I credit Final Fantasy VIII as being the video game that really made me a gamer. I had already been playing games of different genres from Super Mario Brothers to things like Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil...but it was FFVIII that really drew me into the world of gaming. I still remember playing the game for the first time on a Pizza Hut promotional demo disc. I hadn't played anything like it before, and I was instantly hooked. I spent countless hours playing through the game and immersing myself in the world. It started my love for RPGs and from there I went on to play others gems like The Legend Of Dragoon, Dark Cloud, Okage Shadow King, and more. I wouldn't say I'm a fan of the series though. I've only played Final Fantasy VIII, X, X-2, XII, and the original Crystal Chronicles. I love them all for different reasons, with VIII and X being very close to my heart. I can't imagine what I'd be like without them. They were an important part of my younger days. Can...can we get married?? FFVIII is my favourite (and IMO, the best), and was also the game that really kickstarted me in gaming. From there I went back to the older FF titles and then branched out into fantasy RPGs, the likes of Baldur's Gate, etc. It's still one of my favourite games of all time. If I ever manage to find someone to marry, Eyes on Me will be played at the wedding. I like all the FF titles up to XIII, which was just a travesty. And it's a damn shame, because I think Lightning herself is a good protagonist - but the story was just complete crap. I never played IX, and I gave up on X with because of the terrible voice acting. I need to give it another chance though, I know. It's actually a good story, and Yuna is awesome. I was thoroughly impressed with FFV after so much trepidation. I parked it in favour of Andromeda (what a waste of time ) and haven't gotten back into it yet, but I really like the dynamic. The driving is oddly fun. I do like Dragon Quest but I haven't played a huge amount. Sentinels of the Starry Sky was adorable, though.

FadelessRipley I think it would be wonderful to meet someone who felt that way as well. It would be so sweet to have "Eyes On Me" as the wedding song. The closest I've come to that is...having a crush on a guy that also played Final Fantasy VIII during his childhood...and now I'll never know if he felt the same way, haha! ...I think that's going to be one of my requirements in a partner...no objections to dancing along to songs like that. But it's always nice to meet a fellow FFVIII fan, and it's amazing that it had the same impact for the two of us.

But it's a gay dude, so we're useless to each other romantically!

One of my favourite rpgs is Growlanser Wayfarer of Time the fourth in the Growlanser series I played the Psp version which was the complete version with a whole another route and couple more party members. The only thing that let's it down is there isn't any M/M pairings possible though loads of diffrent females for the male main character to pick from.

I never played any JRPGs. I hear a lot of great things about Final Fantasy (7, mostly). I saw someone play Star Ocean once, and I thought it was really weird at the shower scene or whatever the hell was going on, plus all the long cinematics. I feel like I should give them a chance, but I wouldn't know where to start. Any recommendations for a newbie?

PS4. I have a gaming laptop but it isn't strong enough for next gen games (I hope to get a desktop in the future). I enjoy both genres, but I have a preference for sci fi.

I enjoy both genres, but I have a preference for sci fi. well I would recommend a ps2 that is available on the ps2 but available digitaly on the ps4 store called rouge galaxy it is a fun story set in space main down side is male character only the teammates are fun. On the more fantasy side I recommend nights of the azure which is a fantasy game which is female character based,it is dark in places but I like the art style and it has sequel with new characters coming out soon both contain yuri elements. Also a more lighter series i would recommend is atelier there are numerous games often with different characters the main are female. The plot normally with the main character for what ever reason attempts to become a alchemist with lots of character interaction with light romance plots. Persona 5 is a good rpg as well a fav of mine and some good difficultly options for those new to rpgs a good story fun characters but the player character is male only. Also there are some fun digimon games as well like cyber sleuth they provide gender options and a darker story than expected for a monster catch game

Safe mode isn't TOO easy, but it's helpful for those of us who need a bit of help. Mostly it's leveled me up faster and given me a tooooooooon of money lol...but you can't change difficulty until you do a NG+ with Safe so I suggest testing out the waters with Easy mode before committing. Anyway, Persona 5 is my second favorite game of all time after ME2/3 and even though you can't choose the gender/sex of your character or customize them that doesn't really stop me much tbh...the only thing it gives me pause about is the romance stuff, because you can only romance girls and I would rather romance a guy and play as a girl, but that also means you can't romance a guy and play as a guy either. But I mean, JRPGs aren't exactly known for their romance options either, you rarely get a choice if there is romance in it even.

I played the original version of P3, I vaguely recall the very beginning of the original version of P4, but that's it. I'm really bad about being able to go back and play older games though, so I don't know if I'll end up playing the previous ones
