Catilina , you find great art. I agree Red!Hawke's auto-dialog romance lines with Merrill were the best. One of my favorite DA2 playthroughs was Red!Hawke who rivaled everyone except Merrill and Isabela. Getting punched in the face by Aveline was the highlight. Varric's banter with a rival!Hawke was pretty great too.Omg rival Varric. I can't imagine what it must take to piss him off. I've done it before. My memory is the difference isn't that significant. they always have a friendly and awkward friendship. It's been years though, so I could be wrong.

For example, when he talk about the grey warden, who has a map, if Hawke told, that the grey wardens likes to keep their secret, but no problem, s/he will get the map at any cost, he give ~15 rivalry.

I like to rival almost everyone because I'm a bastard like that, but I've always thought Rival Varric is kind of awful. There is some amusing dialogue, but you don't get any character growth like with other rivalries because Varric is written as the flawless, compulsory best friend. (Which is why I don't really care for him and tend not to use him when I'm not required to do so.)

Hard to choose, I think I've played through DA2 more than any other Dragon Age game and just never seem to get bored with it. Favourite playthrough was my first, an aggressive (sometimes sarcastic because I can't resist) FemHawke who was only out for herself and her family, but then she found Merrill Rivalmance, which I like a lot better than the friendship path. Later played a diplomatic Warrior Hawke romancing Anders and that was a slightly masochistic experience.. I find the diplomatic dialogue extremely cheesy in many places. But it was interesting. Aaaand my latest was a sarcastic spirit healer who banged all the LIs except Merrill and ended up in a rivalmance with Fenris. Easily the most entertaining playthrough I've done. I did feel slightly bad about Anders though, poor guy takes it hard.

Okay, this isn't Hawke related, but a Hawke thread is essentially the closest to a general DA2/Kirkwall thread we have, so... I found this art and think it's awesome. I have to share it somewhere. Source.{Spoiler}

Recently I replayed DA2 and dear God. I love sarcastic FemHawke so much. I'm pretty damn sure I'll never like another protag as much as I love Hawke. Her one liners are perfect, her VA smooth as silk and... Okay, I'm fangirling again over her. I never understood all the hate for Hawke. I still don't. Despite recycled locations in DA2, it was one of the best games BW created, imo. It was best written and finally story was something else than yet another "big bad evil" for us to stop. After beating DA2, I decided to give Inquisition another chance and change of protag was painful af. And when FemHawke showed up in my game... It was... I CAN'T DEAL. I'm still fairly early in Inquisition atm, but I still can't get used to Inky. I don't like her VAs and lack of character.

I love default MHawke so much. That sexy beard and voice.
And while it's fun to play sarcastic, my canon Hawke is diplomatic because I think it's so cute to have such a nice, sweet guy trying his best to keep a city-state from collapsing around him and trying to keep his friends from killing each other, and at the end of the day, nothing goes right in his life. Yet he's still so nice and sweet and kind. Ugh I love Hawke and DA2 so much.

I liked Hawke so much more than either the Warden or Inquisitor. Sarcastic all the way, though I have occasionally gone diplomatic. I've never done aggressive.
Never understood all of the hate the game got. It could have been better, sure. Most games could. I've still played it more than DAO or DAI.

I love red choices Hawke. I feel like you can play a mostly aggressive Hawke without feeling like too much of a sociopath (which isn't always true for Renegade Shepard). Aggressive Hawke is the option I missed for Ryder. Not someone who was unrealistically demanding despite their precarious station, but just a person who is... not all that nice and pretty direct in their methods, maybe just because that is all they know to be, not because it is necessarily smart to do so. I also found it interesting to see in my current playthrough that, if you don't choose to be anti-mages, Bethany also gets along quite well with aggressive Hawke.
Plus, I love Varric and threatening violence to everyone is the best way to rival him. He gets really passive-aggressive sometimes, which is great fun.

Three shades of Hawke:
Blue Hawke: silent mad Purple Hawke: loud mad Red Hawke: mad
Aggressive (mixed with purple) Hawke is fun. An impatient asshole, but not neessarily evil or templar. This game is an unpolished diamond.

I tried numerous times to play as diplomatic or aggressive, but I just can't. I feel like a... purple prisoner Of course, I don't pick sarcastic/charming options all the time, but they're like 90% of my FemHawke. Sass is just too good.

I'm playing purple right now and I just miss my grumpy Hawke.
