Someone on steam said shit like this cost $50 in 1990, people complain about the prices of video games today but I'd rather pay $70 for the likes of Mass Effect or The Witcher 3 than $50 for this

Who the fuck is Chris Avellone anyway? I legit never heard of him before these allegations A fairly famous/popular writer whos worked on some noteworthy games. He often gets contracted by studios to write characters and quests. He has a rabid fanboy support base who think hes basically a god of video game writing who can do no wrong.  While I like his work on some earlier games, not all of his stuff is that great and I 100% despise his character Durance in pillars of eternity. Fuck that guy. But because Durance was written by Chris, hes "the best written companion in PoE history" lul. |

But because Durance was written by Chris, hes "the best written companion in PoE history" lul. Specifically, he's one of Obsidian's head writers, responsible for a lot of the important elements of KOTOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2 (and its expansion Mask of the Betrayer), and Fallout New Vegas - his writing style has a heavy focus on deconstruction of mythos and concepts. Many of the most memorable characters from games made by Obsidian are specifically his handiwork, and he clearly has a strong grasp of theme and story. Legit, I honestly think there's something about how KOTOR 2 and particularly Mask of the Betrayer were written that all games need to keep in mind going forward, a sense of the themes and story and structure that make all the main quests, side quests, and character arcs all feed into the same overarching theme.
Of course, since he's a creep, time to boot him and get some new blood in, people who have similar grasps of ideas and themes and less intention of "grasping" the people around them.

He also was pretty involved in Planescape: Torment and early Fallout pre Bethesda I believe. He a basically has his grubby paws all over the “RPGs which are Good” besides DA, ME and the Witcher.
Lately he’s been more in a David Gaider type role where he does more hands off type things like Consulting/direction and so has been involved in Pathfinder, divinity, prey, and Star Wars fallen order.
it was always an open secret he was creepy. Think Harvey Weinstein type.
edit: also that he never really “settled down” and started his own studio or joined a company long term, the closest being new Vegas era obsidian, to me is kinda indicative he was viewed as a liability.

I mean I already had a feeling but its such shit to see it confirmed. Evie was originally supposed to have more screen time akin to Jacob and Aya was actually supposed to be the playable character instead of Bayek.
