Gannicus with his freaking underwear and assless chaps combo, unfair. Why wasn't he bi, woulda made those orgy scenes even better lol, it would have been fun. Don't worry, I will share him with you I live in an AU where Gannicus is bi, like how Joey lives in an AU where Friends is full of gayliens. lol

I recently went through a show called "Please Like Me", where the lead character is gay and played by a gay actor. It was a lot of fun and I just loved that the lead character was gay.
I've seen plenty of LGBT films over the years and definitely have some favorites. They've really helped me out through some rough periods (and my lack of LGBT friends).
@nightscrawl Black Sails and Spartacus are both on my list! I'm hoping to watch them sometime this year. I've been eyeing them for too long and I just love Lucy Lawless!

I really like Empire for Jamal. He's more central cast than the vast majority of LGBT characters I see in stuff. I also like The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, though. Both have decent side character gays, although the way The Walking Dead keeps killing Tara's girlfriends is annoying. I hope Jesus will be more important soon. He's a major character in the comics, but the show only really caught up to where he should be becoming more relevant.

Oh, you read the comics as well? {Walking Dead Spoilers Ahead!} I was so happy when Aaron and Eric were introduced...but ended up being very disappointed when they pretty much disappeared after that. Alexandria as a whole has been very disappointing...and I'm still very bitter about certain character deaths. Aaron and Eric were handled so much better in the comics, where you could see the love between the two. The show completely ignores Eric and it feels like Aaron either isn't there or never does anything. Their relationship feels empty and nonexistent in the show.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying. They have an issue with just doing the same cycle with characters like Daryl and Carol, because they're fan favorites, I guess. I'm really bored with them, though. They don't handle side characters very well. Strand has a bigger role in Fear The Walking Dead than any of the LGBT characters in the main show, so far. It's a bit disappointing. I'm still hopeful they'll use Jesus and Aaron more now that they're thinning the cast a bit more. Unfortunately, I don't think Eric will last much longer.

OMG, I'm so happy that "Beautiful Thing" made the top 30 list on the first post. That movie saved my life!!!! I know that sounds over exaggerated, but it totally did. Funny enough I actually saw the play first. My boyfriend at the time lived in New York City, and he knew I liked plays. So while we were picking one out I said "I don't care as long as it's something gay" (A master of words even then) We didn't have a clue what were in for, but it was amazing! Either way, this was my first relationship, and my family did not take my coming out well at all...like No gay male squadmates in Andromeda level drama. So yeah... The combination of seeing gay romance in such a positive light, and the wonderful music of Mama Cass gave me so much hope and renewed my fight to be accepted as I am. To this day I am convinced I could never marry a man unless he's willing to dance with me right there in front of the whole neighborhood no matter how many ugly looks we get. It's probably the most romantic gesture I've ever seen in a movie. By the way...I liked the film.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler} This show is just awful with the side characters. I used to be such a loyal fan...but I really feel it has just gone downhill ever since the third season. It feels wrong without Andrea and it was just unfair for Laurie Holden how they were both treated at the end. Season five renewed my hope because Alexandria's introduction was amazing...only to quickly crush that hope with seasons six and seven. I did forget to say this before, but I LOVE Tara! I've enjoyed her character ever since her introduction. I was also quite pleased when Denise ended up with Tara instead of being straight like her comic counterpart! The two are definitely something the show did right...although it was just awful that she was killed that way. She was one of my favorites and definitely deserved better. They kill all the good ones. Aww...I fear you may be right about Eric. His death really got to me in the comics and it really broke my heart seeing those scenes with Aaron shortly after. It worked in the comics because the two and their relationship really felt fleshed out. I can't say the same at all for their TV counterparts, which is unfortunate. They've skipped out on too much of their content. I haven't actually seen Fear The Walking Dead, but I did read about that! Definitely agree that Aaron and Jesus should (hopefully) be more prominent soon. OMG, I'm so happy that "Beautiful Thing" made the top 30 list on the first post. That movie saved my life!!!! I think it's just wonderful that it was able to give you that strength. It's definitely a powerful film. I stumbled onto it by dumb luck on Amazon. What convinced me to buy it was the fact that it used Mama Cass Elliot's work as the main soundtrack. I loved the idea of a film using only one of my favorite artists to compliment the story. I was not disappointed at all when I finally had a chance to watch it. It was so much better than I had expected and I loved that Cass Elliot was integrated into the film as well. I now consider it to be one of my favorite films and it's definitely in my top three LGBT films. Now when I listen to Cass Elliot, I am always reminded of the film. She's definitely one of a kind. Also...that's really sweet and I feel like that would be a requirement for me as well...bonus points if Cass Elliot is playing in the background.

Lee Yes, it's a shame we lost her so soon. Without a doubt, anything from her would've been amazing. Listening to her music always manages to make me smile. Just so I don't derail the topic with my love for Mama Cass, I think my first LGBT film was "The Trip (2002)". It was a really fun (yet heartbreaking) film. I absolutely adored Sirena Irwin's character and love that she frequently voices characters on "Spongebob Squarepants". Well...it was either that one or "Weekend (2011)" or "What Happens Next" with Wendie Malick. I loved the latter because Wendie Malick is one of my favorite actresses. Two that are close to my heart are "Best Day Ever" and "Arizona Sky" by Jeff London. They were really sweet and I felt like I could really relate to the characters from the former. (I give it bonus points for Doris Day being mentioned!)

An absolutely adorable and lovely film is The Way He Looks. It's Brasilian, so get ready for the subtitles if you don't speak/read Portuguese. Three characters, a blind high schooler, his best friend, and his crush. Probably one of the best movies of that genre (teen drama) I've ever seen.

It's a super cute film The way it's described in the list makes it seem really light and fun, though, but to me it was pretty tense (family drama / abuse) and I was always worried about the girl, Leah, and of course about the two boys... if something would happen to them. But it's a great movie.

Also, Crimson, I know you said you're avoiding The 100 but I REALLY highly recommend it. I'm frigging obsessed with that show. Even if... a lesbian character, and one half of the main pair, dies, their relationship is so organic, fierce, beautiful, and romantic, the other girl does not simply "get over" the loss of her beloved; I am making my way through the third season and it's a huge deal. To be fair to the writers (which they don't deserve, considering how they treated one of the other actors) the actor in question needed to leave the show for scheduling reasons, and that's apparently why she died. But still... it's so worth it, so so worth it.

That's like the most bad ass gay coming off age moment since Beautiful Thing.

I haven't seen very many LGBT films. The ones I have seen over the years focused on HIV/AIDS, or homophobia, which is one reason I stopped watching them. Those stories are important too (I loved the Angels in America HBO mini series so much), but not the only ones I want to see. I think Jeffrey was my first film with gay characters. I watched it with my mother when I was pretty young, so I probably didn't "get" most of it at the time. I'd have to say the same for Philadelphia regarding my age; I think I would get more out of it watching now as an adult. I do want to recommend The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy. It's about a bunch of gay friends who are also on a softball team, and the various things in their lives (and relationship troubles). I remember it being a nice movie, but that's pretty much it. Another recommendation would be for Lost Girl (TV show) for more of the bi and f/f side of things. I do admit that at times it's a little male-gazey, but there is a payoff in the end for the f/f side. I didn't personally like the way the show ended (essentially the entire final season) for various reasons, but others may feel differently. I have a question for you all about the movie In & Out. I've seen this movie several times over the years. As I've gotten older, and become more aware, it's become less funny over time. I like all of the actors in it, and certain individual bits are great. But I don't have a "good" feeling about the movie anymore, and don't know if that is misplaced, or not. I can't really pinpoint exactly why I feel this way. There are stereotypes in it, but they exist for the straight characters as well; it makes fun of pretty much everyone at one point or other. {Spoiler}It does have a happy ending for our protagonist in finally realizing who he is and being comfortable with it, as well as a hint of possible blossoming relationship with another man. Has anyone else seen it?

I remember it being a nice movie, but that's pretty much it. I have a question for you all about the movie In & Out. Has anyone else seen it? I snipped out a lot of the quote just to make it easier for my tired eyes to respond the points I had interest in. Forgive me! The Broken Hearts Club was a good movie to an extent. Sadly it suffers from gay ending sydrome of "this could have a happy ending, but nah...it's better with bitter sweet ending" Funny enough I think my mother and I went into to see "In and Out" together knowing very little about what the movie was. We used to do that a lot though. We'd just go the movies and watch whatever was on. It was before I came out...even to myself. So for me it was an interesting experience. It wasn't what I'd say a good gay movie should be, but that's subjective I guess. However, I felt like it was a wonderful comedy-which is what it set out to be I think. I can relate to it's story also. I felt like when I finally realized my sexuality at 18 years old, that in a way the world around me had already solved the puzzle earlier on. Sometimes it takes a bit "hey dumb ass" moment to really make you see yourself. So I guess for that reason the movie will kind of always appeal to me.

Beautiful Thing was the first LGBT movie I watched, way back when, and I loved it sooo much. There's just something about Mama Cass that's so uplifting...
I prefer happy endings, so I would recommend: Big Eden, But I'm a Cheerleader, Shelter, and Were the World Mine. Aaaand one of my guiltiest pleasures is to watch "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar" when I get sick. Oh no, I've said too much.

Humm let me see well there is this really cheesy and fun supernatural show coming for the second season next month, Wynonna Earp. It is Buffy with cowboys? one of the sisters, Waverly Earp is bi and into officer Haught. There is also another cheesy show, ya I know I am sucker for those. Supergirl and again the sister Alex Danvers is into a cop Maggie Sawyer, still that happens only on the second season. It has one interesting come out scene, kinda nice to see some diversity on those. On a more serious tone there is a old one, Tierra de Lobos, on 19th century Spain. One of the side arcs, is a love story that ends badly between Isabel Lobo and Cristina. I mean I love period dramas and Spanish tv productions have some really great ones. Also I cannot resist Berta Hernández on a white horse saving her lover. Wynonna Earp, I may or may not have seen some f/f scenes of that show and never watched the rest of it. My dash is full of The 100 but knowing about another buried gay in that show eh, I don't have much motivation to get into it.Glorious cheese is a motivation to check out Supergirl tho plus, those reaction gifs you use of it are great. Sense8 has that glorious ship with Nomi/Amanita I really need to get on with watching season 2. Jamie Clayton: Nomi has the most honest relationship in the seriesKilling Lexa was the most stupid thing I've ever seen when it comes to TV shows. But at least it paind them good by losing over 1m viewers. The Legend of Korra is great although I don't think it can be called a tv show And comics are coming out this year. Xena: The Warrior Princess. Citrus manga is going to be animated soon.
