As some of you may have heard or read, bioware did 50 lay offs including loads of veterans like Mary Kirby, who created a lot in DA like Varric himself. Jeff Grubb reacted to this news, and says the game keeps getting pushed internally. Originally was planned for september 2023, was then moved to march 2024, but now they are talking summer 2024, but he also believes it could keep getting pushed toward fall of 2024 or even early 2025. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s delays simply because they feel the pressure after BG3 release. They can’t afford releasing the game with considerable amount of bugs, with how gamers are pushing about this, making sure each platform work, etc. If they manage to release the game with minimal issues it would definitely help them stand out. Now I imagine the work on the teams let go was done, so hopefully at least they get the credit for that but still seems pretty intense to let go some veterans of the studio, some even being there since baldur’s gate 1! I imagine is due to not wanting to pay them that high for their veteran status though unfortunately. Hopeful they can find new jobs soon, the communities on twitter have been pretty supportive helping them. Probably had to do with EA’s announcement back in march they would lay off 6% of their total workforce despite posting record profits. They specially made statements about re-evaluating games projects they publish. They also separated Ea Sports from Ea Entertainment (all other games lol) and EA entertainment has less funding and had cryptic statements they needed a new surprise hit game. link

Wow...to think we could've been that close to getting the game. I really hope they don't continue to push this game back. I really don't want to wait until 2025. That will be 11 years since Inquisition's release....I was expecting DA5 by now when Inquisition first came out. I was still a teenager then and now I'm almost in my 30s! I just want to see the end of this story already. I don't want to continue to wait until my 50s to see where they want to take this story.

now I'm almost in my 30s! I feel so utterly offended lmao we are eating good lately with BG3 and now Starfield but damn we are not even asking for the game to come out, we just need something that is not "look I'm the Egg and the villain"

Between the game being rebooted twice, and EA getting rid of more and more people, I don't expect it to be great. Inquisition suffered from the "reboot" (Exalted March being rolled into DAI), but it only took ~4 years to make. With pre-production DA4 might hit 12 years, that's insane...
It sucks that EA just can't stop meddling, pushing live services and cuts, when DAI outsold all other BW games.

Only a few weeks away to find out if Dragon Age Dreadwolf makes it onto the Game Awards (December 7). I think it would make sense now to do so as a lot of leaks and rumors have basically pictured it as coming on 2024. The other thing is the lay offs, which could mean their work was finished and unfortunately didn't let them stay for the launch. They already did the whole mass effect thing on November so is now time for DA to like to show its alive. If it's not on game awards, I would be pretty concerned unless the unofficial dragon age day they choose to do something instead and that's it which is also this month (ideally, they should do both). But yeah, I think is crucial because they already have history of using this show a ton of times. Also posting here these finds by nickclark89 that he posted in general DA Discussion for reference in case anyone missed out on them (TL:DR a cinematic animator's linkedin suggests DA4 will release on 2024, and a new track was found that could be of Dreadwolf by Zimmer, as Trevor Morris confirmed he wouldn't be back and said they went with Zimmer instead): x.com/bogorad222/status/1723994678758867451?s=20 x.com/JackdawYT/status/1725857610572677495?s=20

I REALLY hope we see more information on the game soon. We've been patient long enough. I NEED to know if there will be a hot knight for me this time lol...or a least a cute blond/ginger.

That was actually a bit exciting. I felt a little something there. Was that Hawkes VA during the Warden segment...and was that possibly a tease that there will be a bigger bad than Solas?

Solas is gonna get tripped by the bigger bully at the cafeteria, and look up at us with sad puppy dog eyes to save him for sure.

Solas is gonna get tripped by the bigger bully at the cafeteria, and look up at us with sad puppy dog eyes to save him for sure. And I’ll look down and whisper “no.” I mean, the game will probably railroad us into helping him, but I the player with say no.

SALOS: “Your inferior mortal mind can’t possibly understand why I must do what I must do, for the elves, but not the literal rats they have become. Ew gross. I am not their god, but I am basically a god. And my anger is valid. Because it’s anger based in LOVE! In particular, the love of specifically an elf woman by an elf man. But in my righteous, intellectual, wise actions, I could not have foreseen that once again my perfect plan has gone to shit. But now I am actually good now and that’s why I now give you this secret elven broom to sweep up my mess. For you see, in my wisdom, I will teach you the most important lesson of all: I was good all along and taught you marketable skills.”
PC: T”hank you my lord. If only I was not an inferior specimen or I would also kiss you!” Or “Oh you’re also super sexy and if you weren’t already claimed by other elven women than myself, I’d let you awkwardly touch my butt and then sour puss away!”
Quoted from the script. Sorry.

Nothing major here, but Jeff Grubb who tends to drop hints of how development is going for certain games, said that Bioware is very sure on lauching Dreadwolf late this year, 2024. They are not sure if the summer event will announce the date, but they are still quite sure about the late 2024 release window: insider-gaming.com/dragon-age-dreadwolf-coming-in-late-2024-its-claimed/

EA also seems to be financially motivated to get this game out. Video game dev is at the point of the business cycle where even if you are making money (many incredibly successful games) the ROI is plateauing hence why there are increasing layoffs and sure bet games being shelved. EA specifically seems to be pushing to cut losses, finalize development of costly games, and publish safe bets.
BioWare being ordered by EA to lay-off expensive, experienced writers as part of the EA crusade to juice up stock performance and share holder value probably had a side effect of encouraging finalization because doing any more development that require rewrites might be impossible.
Lots of amazing things emerge from development hell, but so do a lot of stinkers so I guess we’re getting closer to knowing.

Jay Ingram, BioWare’s community manager (they have one?) announced two days ago he was laid off, his notice was closer to the 11th. So we might see a few more unfortunately by the end of this month, as I believe EA implied cuts would be finalized by the end of the first quarter. But who knows after that.

So we might see a few more unfortunately by the end of this month, as I believe EA implied cuts would be finalized by the end of the first quarter. But who knows after that. That’s rough since he worked during a time Bioware had 0 games to launch and when he finally gets to launch a game he is laid off just before. On the same line Connie Booth has been hired on EA to help Bioware move forward and revitalize its single player games due to her experience with single playee exclusive playstation games:
