Sci-Fi as a whole is now entirely removed from its roots as a lens through which to critically examine society. It's basically a celebration of our worst traits and excesses, at this point.

I think part of it is within the title itself- when you have genres like steamPUNK and cyberPUNK, a lot of what they set out to address when they were originally created in the 80s/90s was the fundamental inequality that's present in other works of neo-Victorian or science fiction, including LGBT and gender issues, and very often disability and race as well. When you're slapping that label on your game, you're declaring that, to a certain extent, you're going to address some aspect of it, but obviously it could very much not be true and they could just be using the veneer or trappings of the genre as pretty set decoration and little else. I think there's a huge amount of irony in the sort of... celebration of the Victorian era you see with modern steampunk types. To them, it is in parts an aesthetic and in parts a nostalgic look at a not-so-rosy time. I would love a resurgence of steampunk media that actually criticizes the Victorian period.

I'm just hoping that the new Bethesda Space RPG is a real thing, and it has at least Fallout 4 level romances in it (with all bi characters). I think it'd blow Mass Effect out of the water honestly.

The best combo for me would be: all-bi romance system with a lot of cool, interesting options (and women that aren't cookie-cutter "Female Love Interest" types), being able to play an alien if I choose, and having good quests that don't feel super repetitive. Oh and non-voiced protagonist, just to make modding in better content easier in case the vanilla quests fall short. I don't think we've ever had a mainstream space rpg that let us play the full, single-player campaign as an alien, have we? I know there's some lesser known MMOs that let you play as an alien, but have we had a single-player campaign option as an alien?

Not that I know of, I mean not in the rpg games we are talking about anyway. I mean you can play as an alien in a lot of more action type games.

Bethesda is making a space RPG? That's the word on the street. Or the internet one. I forget.

Bethesda is making a space RPG? Well, it's a rumor stemming from: - Bethesda repeatedly renewing the copyright of a "Starfield" franchise
- Bethesda mentioning they've been working on two new IPs that are "the sort of games you'd expect from Bethesda" (which we've all been assuming means open world RPG)
- A teaser image they posted of a map where each section represents a Bethesda game franchise and two are "under construction" with one of the under construction sections looking space-y

It'd be such a wasted opportunity to not let us play some kooky alien race. They don't even have to give us a lot of options for it, either.

So I personally would get a lot of use out of a feature like that.

And I pray that there's no sexy female only blue race-I just can't with that again. Sexy blue people that have 2 or more genders (one being dick welding variety) is fine though. But blue space babes that can mate with everything that moves...and some that can't...I just no.

I like that nipples are the devil, but the rest of her breasts? A-okay, out there in all their floppy glory. Nipples are too sexy for humans LOL.. I had this fish once in my aquarium (their name is Red cichlid if I remember correctly), they are very aggressive, but only if there are 3-4 or more of them, AND I never even try to do anything like this guy..

You're not the minority though, it just seems that way with the small sample size of the forums. According to statistics, most people DO play as human. These are right from EA, and take into account stats from all consoles and PC. Here are race stats for DAI: 50% total for humans 25% for elven mage and warrior The other 25% is made up of the remaining elven rogues, and all options for qunari and dwarf. For gender as well:

Yeah, I don't really get where people saw the makers of Dudebro the series would set out to make anything that didn't cater specifically to dude bros moving forward. I mean it would have been nice if they did, but it just isn't very logical to think they would. -shrug- My thinking was that they always used the the fact that the Witcher was a series of books as an excuse for their dudebroness. If they were really been genuine with that reason than their next project wouldn't have all the problems that the Witcher did. If they were being completely disingenuous than they wouldnt. Their next game is what tells me which one it is. Bethesda is making a space RPG? Well, it's a rumor stemming from: - Bethesda repeatedly renewing the copyright of a "Starfield" franchise

I might be the only one here, but I'm getting pretty burnt out on the Bethesda style open world RPGs (and open world RPGs in general) They are full of ´content´ but not necessarily meaningful or engaging content. Fallout 4 & Skyrim ended up being a checklist of things to do, while truding from one end of the map to the other. And they never seem to end, they just go on and on with the content getting more and more meaningless as all the decent quests start to dry up.

Also, rogue is so popular, damn I felt like mage was no1 for people.

I...honestly think you're being unfair toward CDPR saying they are dudebro company. Yeah, sure, The Witcher seems like a dudebro dream games, but they are so much more. And they are written and made to be sequels to book saga (that was started in 1992) that just happens to have straight male protagonist. They are not just about Geralt, but also how horrible humans can be, about political intrigue and about pure awesomeness that is Ciri (who was totally interested in another girl in one of the books ) And maybe I'm just blind to The Witcher game series faults because I love the books. Also why I say wait for Cyberpunk. If Cyberpunk 2077 shows the same dudebro tendencies The Witcher did, I will be right there with you saying CDPR is indeed company of dudebros for dudebros.

Well, I'm right with you. Even tho Geralt annoyed me more than once in the books, I still love the Witcher games. They have so much more to offer if people could put aside their prejudice and give it a chance. Yes, you can play as dudebro who fucks lots of women, but only if YOU choose to do so. In my games, Geralt was always faithful to his LI, never slept with anyone else, because I didn't want to. And game didn't force me into anything.
