Yup. I've really been wanting a male LI who's just super standoffish and mistrustful at first. I guess there's Fenris, but, despite being kind of prickly in general he's pretty on board from the start - and the anti-mage thing puts me off even if it's understandable in his case... plus he's mean to my husbando Anders (THE NERVE! ). So while he's cool, as an LI he just doesn't do it for me. Then there's Solas with his secret agenda, but we don't learn that until later - he's pretty friendly and helpful when you meet him. Maybe it's a weird thing to want, but, I want that guy who's straight up hostile and doesn't like you at first. The reason I enjoyed the friendship arcs so much with Morrigan, Miranda, and even Cass to a degree, is because I felt like I really had to earn it. I would love a guy like that to romance. Plus I'm a sucker for the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers trope. So yeah, Vilkas hits that note for me even if Skyrim's 'romances' leave a lot to be desired. Conversely, I'd love a sweet, slightly awkward, nerd. A male version of Suvi or Tali or even Dagna from DAI. I always loved Finn from the Witch Hunt DLC, and would love to see an LI like that in a full game. I don't think it's a weird thing to want. I'd love a lesbian version tbh. Most of the f/f options are pretty onboard with it from the start, except maybe Isabela? sort of. Yeah it did occur to me after I posted that that although we've had female LIs like that, they tend not to be available to female characters either. Which is too bad, since, in the absence of male LIs like this, I like the trope enough to romance a character outside my gender preference to experience it (but am not willing to play a male protagonist). And I know plenty of lesbian players have expressed disappointment that these types of female LIs are typically straight as well. Silk Fox from JE might fit, though her I didn't care for as much for some reason. I think Isabela better fits the flirty, morally ambiguous rogue with a sense of humor and dubious motives type... But I've got plenty of guys to pick from there. Zevran, Sky, Iron Bull, now Reyes... I guess it's fortunate I happen to enjoy these types since Bioware loves including them. I'd complain, but, had they stopped we wouldn't have gotten Reyes. And I really like Reyes.

the player-sexual team the all bisexual team FTFY Well... I know this can annoy or offend some people but I don't mind when romance characters don't have a specified sexuality and that their interest in the player takes the spot light. Sure you have characters with past love interests or interests in other teammates/characters that make preferences known... But it doesn't matter to me. I mean as long as real people get the same level of content that is what I care about. I do like seeing LBGT characters in the story and lore of course. I don't care what happens in other peoples games or what they headcanon tbh. That is like those girls who imply Jaal is ruined by him sucking a d*ck in an AU. What does it matter to them, how does it change their experience? This probably comes from my pansexuality. Sorry if I offended people with that language. My only issue with all bisexual LIs is that romance options tend to be the only representation for gay people in a game, so removing them from the romance options removes that representation. It's even worse if all the characters are player sexual like FO4 because then there is no real representation at all. If a game as a number of NPC gay characters and/or non-LI gay companions then I'm all for all bisexual LIs. Particularly because it might be the only way BioWare will let me romance a hot warrior woman, I crushed so hard on Cass & Cora. I am glad that I was able to flirt with both of them, get rejected and build a friendship, unlike Morrigan who I didn't realise I couldn't romance until she told my Warden they were like sisters, even if I did love her friendship path.

fialka you make a good point about Vilkas being the closest thing we get to an "ice king" type romance. I would really love a male Morrigan/Miranda romance in a Bioware game. Yup. I've really been wanting a male LI who's just super standoffish and mistrustful at first. I guess there's Fenris, but, despite being kind of prickly in general he's pretty on board from the start - and the anti-mage thing puts me off even if it's understandable in his case... plus he's mean to my husbando Anders (THE NERVE! ). I really want a nerdy or scholarly type male LI that's available for m/m. Solas was the closest to a scholarly/intellectual type and he was straight. Disappointed. Although, a younger, more.. awkward, I guess, type like Finn is really what I'd like more.

Yeah, I'd prefer the guy to not be all about bringing on the apocalypse, but... well. Anders, Solas, and Reyes are some of my favorite romanceable characters, so a functioning moral compass is pretty much a bonus... rather than a necessity.

A woman starting the apocalypse sounds kinda hot though, ngl. I'd have my character defeat her and throw her in prison but still. Pretty damn hot.

A woman starting the apocalypse sounds kinda hot though, ngl. I'd have my character defeat her and throw her in prison but still. Pretty damn hot. I love the premise but I am not confident that I would jail her. I am always the worst and usually betray everything else I have done in the game for an LI at some point... But I keep having to play genders or orientations I don't want to do it. Morrigan: "Hey can you impregnate me with a possibly evil demon child?" The Warden: "I don't know. That sounds kind of bad... its not? Sure thing!" Bioware just needs to give F/F an option to make really the bad world altering decisions I like to make. Anders, Solas, and Morrigan haven't really been available to us. These squadmates usually convince me to do terrible things but I typically play "good" characters. I would love for an "evil" F/F option to corrupt my white knight.

I feel like sometimes Bioware is willing to take risks with female characters but then those risky female characters are usually het anyways. Tevinter would be the perfect place to introduce such a character. Or maybe in the Grey Warden plotline, whatever is happening in the Anderfels with them. Or an ex-saarebas Tal-Vashoth who is willing to do anything to stop the Qun from spreading. It's not like there's a shortage of possibilities.

My guess is they are afraid to make "the bad" character gay (or bi). They don't want to be accused of vilifying LGBT characters. See: Solas

It extends to characters like Cassandra and Cora too, tbh. Nearly any time there's a risk, they apply it to the het women first and foremost.
