Hmmm... I can rank ME ones, but for DA it's pretty much the one or no one. But I'll try Bull's, when I replay DAI.

Friggity frick frack, I took a break from DA for a while but it's drawing me back iiinnn. So, who's your second favorite DA romance? Since "who's your fave" gets asked often enough and by now I can guess all the regulars' favorites. If Alistair/M!Warden is invalidated because insert heteronormativity here I guess Isabela is my favorite thus making Iron Bull my second favorite romance.

Hmm...if we're looking at it from a gay perspective...I guess I'd say Zevran...mostly just because he was my first Dragon Age romance and he has the benefit of being in my favorite game. It's been a long time since I've done his romance though because it's always gay Alistair romance now.
But from an overall perspective? You couldn't make me choose between Morrigan and Leliana. I love Morrigan's overall romance/journey between the three games so much, but Leliana also has an amazing romance in Origins even though I'm not a fan of where she ends up.
Alistair is my favorite romance and Anders is my "favorite" gay romance...but that isn't saying much because I'm not really a fan of what BioWare has offered.

As for 2nd fav, erm this is hard to choose. The first who would pop into my noggin is Izzy she's alot of fun buuuuuuut then there is Cullen. Cullen that dude who I was pretty indifferent to up to DAI, this guy confused the crap outta me, it was awkward but sweet and dammit I enjoyed that romance very much, was not expecting that at all. A tie then between Izzy and Cullen, Izzy would be into that tho.

Yeah, it's kind of complicated 'cause you've got people who exclusively play as one gender and sexuality and then you've got people who play as everything, and you've got people who love a character but not their romance... or think the romance is well-written but dislike the character... the list goes on and on, lol. About Leliana, it's funny that you mention her character progression. I only decided to romance her in DAO when I saw how she was in DAI and was sufficiently intriiiiigued. Take a hard guess as to who is my fav DA one. It's difficult I know. Le......Sandal?? Cullen's powers are strange and unusual indeed! He's always top of the charts (along with Solas, Alistair, Leliana, Fenris, Dorian...) when I do romance polls.

I don't think I'd ever be able to put the DA romances in any order, because I've loved them all for different reasons. Though Izzy is my favorite F/F, so I guess that's an easy one to list. Never got into Leliana or Josie like that and since Morrigan isn't an option.../cry. Also I am very sad that there is still no DA news and people keep saying we'll be waiting until 2021 or later because of reasons and that's just too damn far away. Frackk you, Anthem.

Of course, that just shows the inherent flaw of BioWare's worldbuilding. Because in a world where the dominant religion elevates a woman to effective godhood, and the priesthood is barred to men, and all the various other little details that they claim, the world should be a lot kinder to women. 'Bitch' should not be a common insult (especially from Fereldans who culturally adore their dogs). There shouldn't be the shame for women owning their sexuality.
But, because BioWare fails at worldbuilding, of going beyond the lip service in the lore, we get this repetition of the patriarchal structure and attitudes that have shaped our world, despite not existing in the fictional one.
Even allowing for "our society is sexist, the writers bring that into their writing, you really can't get away from it," it's still a failing because they're really not making an effort to make the on paper gender equality of Thedas anything more than flavor text in the codex.

It would be nice if Thedas walked the walk a little more in terms of presenting a more matriarchal society, but just because the heads of some of the thedosian churches are female does not mean sexism would vanish. We see plenty of kings, division of labor, etc. our world still did wrong by women even as having female gods, female priestesses, and female queens.
I too Would like thedas tohave been designed a little more different from our world, as that is interesting and why the hell not design a revolutionarily different socio political system in a fictional world, and especially since there are now countless fantasy/science fiction works that have done just that. But unfortunately in the post “grim dark” age it’s easier to just copy the fucked up things in our world instead of imagining fucked up things in a different world.

Random question - the KISA love is strong here. I was wondering if anyone had any preferences for said KISA's ideal age? (Or any LI really, I was just playing NWN2 where Casavir's coming up on forty, and in DA you've got Alistair who's 20 in DAO, Cass is in her late thirties, Cullen is early thirties by the time he's romanceable, Blackwall's gotta be in his forties, etc.)

Like I generally have my PCs end up being roughly late twenties, early thirties (we'll see how this changes as I age out of my own early thirties), so I generally aim for about the same age between the characters. It's easier to view the Warden as being younger, for example, due to a few origins playing as them being in their early twenties (or equivalent, if lifespans are different between humans, elves, and dwarves), which makes Alistair a contemporary, while Hawke is pretty explicitly in their mid-twenties at the start of DA2, based on Carver and Bethany's age. The Inquisitor ends up being open to interpretation - most of the time I view my Inquisitors as being in the above mentioned range, but I have one who skewed a bit younger, since I based him off of an actual person who was around twenty-four at the time. So, yeah, above all, I think I prefer my LIs in general to be about contemporary to the PC. I think that also has to do with the element of age and power dynamics that have frequently made BioWare romances uncomfortable - there are a lot of mentor/mentee romances in the BioWare canon, and they always play out with this element of a power imbalance, where the PC ends up having a lot more power and/or experience than the (pretty much exclusively female) love interest. I want a relationship where they can approach one another as equals, and there's a lot more room for that to be turned toxic if something is out of balance, be it age or just position. And with position, usually that's entirely offset by the PC being the capital-H Hero of the story.

Though I'm okay with younger if the pc is meant to be younger too. But I can relate to the other a lot betta. /oldassMe
