Ladies and gents, all and sundry - I got two movie passes from work. What should I go see? Welp, the only movies I've seen recently in the cinema were A Star is Born and Halloween, I'd recommend either. Need to get around to seeing the Queen biopic at some point.

Ladies and gents, all and sundry - I got two movie passes from work. What should I go see? Widows is getting very good reviews. I'm off to see it tomorrow and could report back if you like? Recently I have enjoyed: Bohemian Rhapsody - A bit surface-level in terms of the depths of Freddie Mercury's character, and apparently some bits are out of order, but if you like Queen's music then it's well worth seeing. Rami Malek is spectacular as Freddie, and Gwilym Lee's Brian May is spookily accurate. The recreation of Live Aid at the end is amazing. Mirai - Lovely anime film about a young boy getting used to his new baby sister, as well as parenting and family in general.

Thanks for the recommendations, y'all! I think I'll hold onto these tickets for a bit, wait and see if anything catches my eye. I think the last movie I saw in theaters was Incredibles 2.

I watched some movie today on Netflix. 7 in...something. It was about some teenagers who went into the closet to make out (something like spin the bottle where the two people it lands on have to kiss). They come out into an alternate universe and then have to get back home. I liked it. Not the best ever but I gave it a thumbs up.

My aunt took me to see Bohemian Rhapsody last night! I've always liked Rami Malek as an actor but even still, I was pretty blown away by his performance. Solid film, emotional, funny. I cried bc of course I did.

Why do I know these random things... Anywho, I watched "Mamma Mia Here We Go Again" last night. While it was amazing in it's own way, I felt it was a bit too heavy for me to watch it all that often. O.o Anytime the mom dies in a thing I'm an emotional wreck for days... Here's hoping I can pull it together for Turkey day though.

I watched "The Shape of Water". Eh...It was okay. I would have liked it better if maybe it was a bit toned down with the sex. I mean the 2 sex scenes with the fish dude were fine...but like 2 tub solo scenes with the girl...the bad guy plowing his wife..I'm like...ugh..this was supposed to be a romance not a porn right? -shrug-

Fantastic Beasts 2. Really interesting and I did not see the end coming. I will say that a third movie has to happen based on the ending.

I quite liked the first one, so I will see the second one as soon as I can. Would be easier if there was a theater near me.

The cast were terrific, eerily similar to the real band, the Live Aid scene gave me chills, epic. Rami Malek was Freddie, hope he gets an Oscar nod for this movie, I want to see it again!

I was thinking about the movie Sunshine the other day, and it got me wondering - what are some movies that you guys love despite them having (in your eyes) very serious flaws? In the case of Sunshine, there's a lot that I love about it. I really like the visuals, the amount of thought that was put into the design of the Icarus-II spacecraft and its crew composition, the subdued, introspective, claustrophobic atmosphere, the way that it flips the usual convention of darkness being more dangerous than light, the myriad moral dilemmas that the characters have to deal with, etc. Unfortunately,
I was annoyed by the genre shift to slasher-horror towards the end. I didn't hate it, but I wish that it had had more buildup, and that Pinbacker had been more of a character instead of "generic slasher villain in desperate need of psychiatric care #576." Especially since Pinbacker never interacts with his natural foil - Searle, the Icarus-II's medical officer who's also developed an obsession with the sun. I think that the film did need some sort of spanner in the works to raise the stakes, and I think Pinbacker works decently well for it, but the way that it's implemented feels rather jarring.
The shift wasn't enough to ruin the film for me, but I can see why a lot of people were really bothered by it, and I do wish that they'd stuck with more of a psychological thriller angle and/or had some more buildup to Pinbacker's role in the final act.

Bumblebee was pretty enjoyable. Certainly better than the recent transformer movies.
