Figured we need a general chat to discuss movies we've seen but don't feel like making an entire thread for Today I just saw Wonder Woman. It was pretty awesome, especially the first part, which is just the Amazons being fucking bad asses. I haven't seen any of the recent DC movies so don't know how it compares, but in terms of writing and dialogue and plot, it was a bit meh. But watching a woman just utterly destroy all of her opponents was like, whoa. Awesome. Before that saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and I thought it was better than the first. Quietly shipping Drax x Mantis, although ace Mantis is nice, too. My favorite character was Nebula

DC finally finally released a movie that did not suck. And one of the villains in the movie, that actress, ugh it was annoying the fuck outta me when I was watching it, I know her face. Where have I seen her before and this thread reminded me to google her. And yup, she was the lesbian in a Room in Rome. TIL she's also gay IRL.

It's actually the only DC movie I've ever seen lol I mean other than the Christopher Nolan movies; I don't think they are part of this universe since Afleck is the new Batman? Bah no idea. I had to stop and think because I couldn't remember a female villain; I was thinking of all the amazons and wondering, why would she think any of those was a villain?? Then I remembered Dr. .... whatever her name was lol face burn lady. Her role was way way too reduced. She should've been the main villain instead of some sciency sidekick.

Oh and that reminds me: we should have seen some woman/woman relationships on the island of the Amazons. Boo hoo they didn't want to stir the pot I guess. Lame. Nevertheless I headcanoned that the woman who ran up in despair over the body of [redacted] after the queen and Diana was actually [redacted]'s wife.

Themyscira is a sapphic paradise, all those warrior women. Gonna watch wonder woman some time next week. Anyone seen alien: covenant? Thoughts? I have, it's kinda a mess in terms of lore. Not sure where Ridley is going with this, I know he has another movie in the works, just hope these prequels will actually tie in right to the original Alien. Right now, Ridley is kinda all over the place. The crew will annoy you with how stupid they are, if you thought the Prometheus crew were dumb, these guys will give em a run for their money. Michael Fassbender is excellent in it, worth seeing for his performance at least. It's gory at times, not scary tho imo.

I can handle everything else if there is a lot of death.

Artemis, no the Nolan flicks unfortunately don't count as part of this universe.
The new universe is (and my scores for the lols):
Man of Steel 7.5/10 batman v superman: Dawn of justice 6/10 Suicide Squad 6.5/10 Wonder Woman 9/10
Man Of steel was decent, but Wonder Woman is really good! I loved everything about it, when she steps into the action on the no man's land scene made me cry nerd tears of joy. I'm not even a wonder woman fan per say (Well until now) but it was so well built up to get to that moment. I was also happy with how they managed the relationship aspect, both characters had a great respect for each other.
I also loved Guardians Vol 2 a whole lot more than the first, it was a very character driven movie and I loved it for being just that. I think what I really like a lot from both Wonder Woman and Guardians vol 2 is that they are their own stand alone stories, they are not desperately trying to connect things to other films. Which ultimately has been a problem for a couple of the heroes in Marvel, specially on sequels.

Nevertheless I headcanoned that the woman who ran up in despair over the body of [redacted] after the queen and Diana was actually [redacted]'s wife. To me that was the obvious implication of that that scene. Diana also says to Steve that the 12 vols on sexual pleasure comes to the conclusion that men are needed for procreation but not for pleasure. The implication being that the Amazons do have sex. I really enjoyed the film over all, but I did have some issues with it, one of which was not enough time spent on themyscira. More time on the Island would've given what happened on the beach even more impact, allowed more time for that impact to sink in and allowed time to show sappho relationships. Ultimately though it's the best DC EU film by a large margin and it's up there with some of the best of the Marvel films. I've also seen Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which was better than the first because it wasn't bogged down with origin stories but IMO the Gamora & Nebula plot was one of the best parts but it wasn't integrated into the rest of the story. It felt like they weren't really needed, which bothered me. I rewatched Blade 2 over the weekend because it came up on my Netflix queue. I remember really liking it when it came out, but on the rewatch, I kinda hate teenage Rachel as I can't worked out what was it I liked about it. I mean the costumes are cool & the fight choreography is decent but it is a terrible film.

I guess it's because I've never really been into DC properties like I've been into Marvel ones, but as much as I did enjoy Wonder Woman, it mostly just renewed my frustration that MCU put Captain Marvel at the very back on the production line but somehow found the time and resources to make ANOTHER FUCKING SPIDER-MAN MOVIE. Give me Carol Danvers already, dammit.

At the very least a Black Widow & Hawkeye movie paired would have worked. I know she's not all fancy superpowers and stuff, but with a great told movie they would have made the audience care so much more for her. DC is already planning some crazy spin off with Harley Quinn and other females while we are still practically begging marvel for female hero movies.

Yeah, or if they didn't want to do a BW movies due to her lack of powers... why not try Spider-Woman? Jess would have been a way more interesting protagonist than a third Peter in high school movie.

Well the thing with Spider-Man is mostly Sony, they own partial rights to it and they want to milk it badly with all these spin offs and stuff and well Marvel gave them the ok as long as they make some creative agreements and pairings and whatnot. Last I heard Black Cat is being considered for a film? I'm still surprised they didn't simply just buy back the rights from Sony though. Still hoping they can recover the fantastic four rights at least from 20th century fox.

Saw Wonder Woman tonight and it's giving me so many feelings and YES OF COURSE many of those feelings involve Robin Wright charging in on a horse firing a shit ton of arrows everywhere. It wasn't perfect and it was silly at times but I loved it a lot, especially DOCTOR POISON I loved her so much I had to come home and do a wee quick sketch Overall I give Wonder Woman 14 sapphos out of 10 Aww she's so cute and angry!! Love it!

Give me Carol Danvers already, dammit. I'm kinda the opposite, Marvel lost me when they ruined the X-Men with the House of M and they never managed to come back from that. They have a few individual titles that I like, Runways, Ms Marvel, Nextwave Agents of Hate but overall I'm no longer that into Marvel. That being said I've enjoyed the MCU and been incredibly frustrated that Marvel are ignoring their backlog of female, poc and queer characters for most of the MCU phases. IMO DC, comic & animation wise, has always been better with it's female, poc and queer characters, with more of them getting long run solo books or being team mainstays than their Marvel counterparts. This is one of the main reasons why I've been so disappointed with most the DC EU films, it's like they'll make 100 terrible Batman & Superman films before they'll branch out.
