Hmm, on the topic of Disney live action remakes, I liked Beauty and the Beast. It was the last movie I went to see in the theater, since usually now I just wait until it's on Netflix or Hulu After all this talk/gifs I see from Wonder Woman here, maybe I should go see it though! Remakes/reboots can be hit or miss, and I think Beauty and the Beast was a hit. I'm also a nostalgia whore, so there's that lol. I hated Jurassic World though. (Jurassic World nerd rant warning:) I thought everyone in the movie was stupid for bringing dinosaurs back again (and making that dinosaur hybrid monstrosity---why?!?!), and I can't believe they're going to keep milking that franchise. I also thought that the female lead, Claire, was infinitely terrible and paled in comparison to the awesomeness of Ellie in Jurassic Park; so I'm going to be annoyed forever for that. (Claire deserved to be arrested at the end, imo, but no, she gets away scot-free ) Is Disney still whitewashing Mulan? I don't get it, you think they'd learn after all the controversy during making it (not to mention the controversy for many of their past films!!!). I said this in another thread, but I advocate Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire be marketed as a Disney Princess

Artemis, no the Nolan flicks unfortunately don't count as part of this universe. The new universe is (and my scores for the lols): Man of Steel 7.5/10 batman v superman: Dawn of justice 6/10 Suicide Squad 6.5/10 Wonder Woman 9/10 Man Of steel was decent, but Wonder Woman is really good! I loved everything about it, when she steps into the action on the no man's land scene made me cry nerd tears of joy. I'm not even a wonder woman fan per say (Well until now) but it was so well built up to get to that moment. I was also happy with how they managed the relationship aspect, both characters had a great respect for each other. I also loved Guardians Vol 2 a whole lot more than the first, it was a very character driven movie and I loved it for being just that. I think what I really like a lot from both Wonder Woman and Guardians vol 2 is that they are their own stand alone stories, they are not desperately trying to connect things to other films. Which ultimately has been a problem for a couple of the heroes in Marvel, specially on sequels. wonder woman got good reviews from critics and audience but it still gains less money than any other dc movie and considering how justice league gonna have whedon as a director i def wont watch it. hope some other dc movie will have Patty Jenkins as a director again cause it was the first dc movie that i actually enjoyed.

It can still end with equally the same money or more though than the others, it has dropped in the box office much less than the other DC films, meaning it has legs thanks to everyone's good feedback thankfully. Its on track to beat man of steel this next weekend for sure. I don't know what to expect from Justice League but Snyder is still the main director of it and I doubt Whedon will change too much out of respect for him, I just hope they fix it to a really well balanced tone that Wonder Woman had. I agree though, I think Patty Jenkins should get more involved in the universe in some way, I couldn't believe the "no man's land" scene was going to be cut but Patty fought to have it on the movie when its definitely the most memorable scene.

Jurassic World rant I really sympathised with Claire. The entire film did nothing be shame her for her life choices and blame her for stuff she had no control over. Then they gave her this shitty romance to shut her up moaning and magically made her nephew's like her even though neither she nor the film did any work to make this happen.
I love the original Jurassic Park and Jurassic World just made me angry.

Due to the popularity of the Wonder Woman film, I can guess this new reshoots are trying to make the Justice League film more 'Wonder Woman and her super pals' Which I'm ok with in all honestly. I'm hoping that Wonder Woman causes Warner Bros to change direction with their DCEU a bit, give Patty Jenkins more films, make them lighter & more hopefully and make them less "Superhero films" and more established genre films that just happen to have Superheroes in them. Wonder Woman was essentially a War film with a Superhero. They could use the trappings of other genre films to make really good Superheroes films, Tim Burton's Batman is very noire, Ant Man is a heist film, Captain America is another War film. IMO this is the best way to go with them.

More Jurassic World rant lol Part of what bothered me about Claire, is she kept getting sh!t for focusing on her career and not wanting children. Her own sister started crying because she didn't have the "maternal instincts" to care for her nephews. Then Claire says, "well, maybe I'll understand if I have children," to which her sister responds, "no, when you have children!" I wanted to snap. It's not Claire's fault, of course. But she definitely fell into the trope of the ice queen who needs to soften up and pop out some babies with Chris Pratt so she'll be a good person. And Chris Pratt was an annoying pervert, no arguments there lol. Compared to Ellie in Jurassic Park, it made me angry too... I haven't seen the movie since it was released, but I still think she needed to be arrested or at least deserved some kind of punishment for the dinosaurs breaking lose and killing everyone. She did sign off and support making "scarier dinosaurs" to make more money for the park, resulting in that hybrid dinosaur thing after all. Never mind the fact that they all seem to brush off/forget what happened in Jurassic Park 1-3. The walking into the sunset ending with Chris Pratt was kind of stupid. I love Jurassic Park too. They're making a Jurassic World 2 that's supposed to be released next year, and I dread how much further they'll ruin the franchise

The film is constantly shaming her for working and not being into having kids. Then by the end of the film she seems to have decided that she likes kids for no reason.
It's not like the in first one where Dr Grant spends the entire film with the kids and developed a relationship with them. She is with them for like 10 mins at the end and is all like, I love kids now. ugh!
It's like the film hated Claire and her life choices and wanted us to hate her too, but a lot of her character really resonated with me.
In the film it's Chris Pratt who lets the indominus rex out. He insists on going into the cage when they think she has gone missing and that is what lets her out. Claire is not even there when that happens.
I think Claire has less responsibility for what happens then John Hammond in Jurassic Park so I didn't expect anything to happen to her by the end of the film.
It's her boss that wants the big scary dinosaur to be engineered and then her boss that doesn't oversee the project enough to know that the indominus rex has a lot of abilities she shouldn't. In all honestly Jurassic Park is not much of a franchise. There is 1 awesome film, 1 ok one and 2 that are drek. The Aliens franchise has more good films in it and most of it is terrible.

Because she was a woman, she was made to be a bad person for not automatically clicking with her nephews. And spending time with the cool Chris Pratt made her cool by association to her nephews; they started to like her because he was her "boyfriend". They didn't start liking her for who she was. Ugh. The scale of Jurassic World was much bigger than Jurassic Park, though. They were just a group of people visiting and a skeleton crew before the grand opening. Jurassic World was fully staffed and full of tourists who all got eaten/attacked by dinosaurs . Plus, they had the knowledge of the scale of damage these dinosaurs are capable of now; you think they'd learn... She did sign off and support the indominus rex. At the very least, she was negligent imo. Most of the other people who could be considered responsible for its creation, except for Henry Wu who escapes, are all eaten by dinosaurs/killed too. I'm guessing Henry Wu is supposed to be a villain in Jurassic World 2. Jeff Goldblum is supposed to come back too. Maybe they need him to yell at everyone for being stupid *shrug*

Good point about the scale of the park. Everyone involved in running it seemed to be very complacent IMO. Killer dinosaurs were treated like dolphins rather than prehistoric monsters.
Claire definitely bares some of that responsibility but so does anyone in any position of authority including Chris Pratt.
While the scale might be bigger in Jurassic World, the only person we actually see killed by a dinosaur is Claire's assistant, another woman who was hated by the film.
In the first film we know several people have been killed. Jurassic World makes it look like people were merely injured and were able to evacuate just fine.
In a film like this though no one ever gets held accountable You know the more I think about this film the more angry I get about it.

In a film like this though no one ever gets held accountable You know the more I think about this film the more angry I get about it. Yeah, I get really angry too when thinking about this movie. I love Jurassic Park so I get even angrier. There were a few other people killed from the dinosaur chaos that I remember--the security guard with Chris Pratt who got eaten by the indominus rex, the military asshole who wanted to turn raptors into super soldiers and got eaten by a raptor, and the billionaire benefactor (but he died in the helicopter crash). There seemed to be a lot of people evacuated, but I assumed there were more people killed off-screen in the chaos (like when the pterodactyls were picking people up).
Claire's assistant probably had the worst on screen death--really long drawn out suffering--and she didn't do anything in the movie to "deserve it". In the sense that usually in these action films the worst deaths are reserved for the "bad guys". Her worst crime was that the nephews didn't like her and she "lost" them when they ran off and almost got killed. She was clearly upset and looking for them, and when the nephews witnessed her death, they didn't care or tell Claire. I hated the nephews too. The older teenage one was also a pervert and creeping out teenage girls the whole movie.
Chris Pratt also deserves some blame, yes, for the indominus rex getting loose. His pet raptors were also kind of stupid and followed the indominus rex. Pretty much anyone in authority, I agree. But, no one is held accountable for all that chaos. Because... reasons. I was reading about Jurassic World 2, and apparently they are going to go further with the dinosaur soldier sub-plot that was introduced. Because that plan doesn't have the possibility to backfire

As you said, it was a horrible death for a woman who was trying to plan her wedding while looking after two random kids (a task that was not her job)
And no one cares, not the stupid kids, not Claire, not anyone.
The Dinosaur soldier thing was a terrible idea in Jurassic World and it is a terrible idea for any sequal to explore. What military contractor looks at how out of control things go in the park and goes ´yeah, these are still good for fighting, they totally won't turn on us´?

They made a lot of money with Jurassic World, so I guess it makes sense that they'd pop out more movies to cash in that dough. But, who in their right mind would want to make more dinosaurs after the events of Jurassic Park 1-3, and especially Jurassic World?! Breeding dinosaurs to be super soldiers is definitely not the next logical step; they obviously can't be controlled or tamed by man and always follow their instincts to break loose and kill. The overarching theme of the Jurassic Park movies was that man can't control powerful forces of nature, and trying to do so always backfires. Making even more powerful dinosaurs as instruments of war through cross-breeding and genetic manipulation is a horrible idea to expand on in the sequel. Why would anyone in the military think that's a great idea? It worked out great for their representative in Jurassic World... And on Claire's assistant: another "crime" of hers (going with the annoying themes of the movie) was that she didn't want her fiancée to have a bachelor party, depicting her as controlling or whatever. I guess the movie wanted us to hate her for always being on her phone and not paying better attention to Claire's nephews, but like you said--babysitting wasn't her job, and they were the ones who ran away from her and went into a restricted area and almost got killed. The older teenage nephew was really at fault for suggesting that.

The older teenage nephew was really at fault for suggesting that. A sequel makes sense, it did make a ton of money, even if it was complete rubbish BUT they need to come up with a better idea. Jurassic Park 2&3 didn't really work because the films work best when the dinosaurs are confined to a small area rather than a large island or *sigh* New York. Even the small scale military experiment being done in Jurassic World was ultimately a failure, the Raptors turned on Chris Pratt. If even the 'raptor whisperer' couldn't keep control of them what hope does a random soldier have. and what is the military's secret plan for the indominus rex anyway ? Let loose an invisable dinosaur on the enemy, watch them murder everyone and then hope the enemy manages to kill them? because Dr Wu certainly didn't breed any obedience into it. Claire's assistant's name is Zara, which I had to google because I felt bad not knowing her name. Just because the film didn't care about her doesn't mean I can't. She is played by the very talented and awesome Katie McGrath afterall.
Part of me thinks the film was trying to have her as a lesson to Claire, both of them were on their phones not paying attention to the kids, both of them were obsessed with work and other things. It's like her death was saying to Claire 'look what happened to Zara, like children or this will happen to you too.'
And in fairness to Zara, she completely freaks out when the kids go missing and desperately tries to find them. Maybe if the older one hadn't been such a creepy stalker she wouldn't have died because she would have taken the kids straight to the shelter instead of running around trying to find them.

Ugh, you're so right. Honestly I hate her nephews. She runs a huge dinosaur park you little assholes, she is already cool.
Because that plan doesn't have the possibility to backfire oh boy, the dino soldier subplot idk if you guys know this but they started working on a jurassic park 4 around 2005 that was all about dino human cross breeds, that then went through dev hell until 2011 when the idea was finally scrapped for being dumb (or so I thought) and they started working on the jurassic world movie that we all know and hate somewhere there is a big shot executive working at universal that reallllllllllllllly wants a dino-human movie and has been trying to get it made for over a decade

Now I'm wondering if the dino soldiers will be dino humans instead of uncontrollable Raptors.......... ugh

I didn't mind much Jurassic World, but it definitely doesn't stand a second viewing. I didn't think of those points you all mentioned about Claire but is true! I hope they deliver a stronger character for her on the sequel, it was pretty awesome to see her summon the big T Rex at the end though! The first meeting of Claire and Pratt's character was really bad though. And the teenager kid was dreadful.
Since the DCEU still doesn't give me the Batman Stories I want to see on screen, I decided to check out their animated line up and saw Batman Under the Red Hood and man it was excellent. I love the story of the Robins, and this one is no exception, and they have great AA production with well known actors on the voices and great soundtrack. I don't understand how can they do so well these animated ones but not the regular ones lol. Although the dark knight trilogy was really great, it didn't really do much of the proper batman stories per say.

Zara was her name. I haven't seen the movie since I saw it in theaters after its release 2 years ago, so some details became fuzzy over time. Though, I hated it so much that some points stuck. I would never willingly rewatch it after how angry I got, ha. That makes sense that she'd be a lesson to Claire. The whole movie preached how awful career women are, and how it causes them to ignore their duty to protect children. Claire did bum those annoying nephews off on Zara after all, because she was actually busy doing her job. Which is why her sister gave her so much crap. Claire said she'd spend time with them after she finished some things, but that wasn't good enough apparently Dino Human half breeds - bloody hell that is awful. Now I'm wondering if the dino soldiers will be dino humans instead of uncontrollable Raptors.......... ugh I wouldn't put it past Spielberg at this point I agree that if they're going to make sequels, they have to use good ideas that actually make sense. I don't plan on seeing Jurassic World 2, but I may end up going with my mom anyway because she loved the first one. If I do see it, I really hope they at least improve the characters. I'm all for villains, but I prefer the cunning and reasonable ones. Making dinosaur super soldiers knowing they always turn on humans and don't discriminate on who they attack, is incredibly stupid and not reasonable.

Making dinosaur super soldiers knowing they always turn on humans and don't discriminate on who they attack, is incredibly stupid and not reasonable. Claire's sister was very annoying. She effectively dumps her children on her sister so she can divorce her husband in peace. And then get's all annoyed when she thinks Claire is not spending any time with them.
IMO Claire don't do a bad job of looking after them when they arrive, they got into the park for free or heavily discounted, she gives them free VIP passes, a 1st class room and a chaperone who has to bring them wherever they want. Plus she was going to meet from for dinner and spend more time with them after Hammond 2.0 left.
And Zara doesn't drag them places, or try to be all 'cool', she is happy to go visit whatever attraction they want and leaves them to their own devices when they get to an attraction. As a former teenageer she is, in my mind, the perfect adult chaperone.
For a person with no experience of kids, it was pretty good and the ungrateful assholes & her sister are still annoyed with her.
I will probably have to see Jurassic World 2, my Dad took me to see the first one for my 10th birthday and it's been a tradition ever since that we go see a Jurassic Park film together, but there needs to be a proper villain who causes the dinosaur super soldiers (or whatever) to attack otherwise it's just yet more proof that messing with dinosaurs is stupid and leaves the audience wondering why someone keeps pumping money into the idea.
