If we're still talking about female superhero films, I saw this one once when I was home during the day and it was a trip: m.imdb.com/title/tt0088103/

I'm starting to get tired of Disney sequelising and rebooting all their classic properties. Jungle Book worked out really well, but nothing else has been as good.
I wish they would focus instead on new original stuff, like Zootopia and Moana, which are easily better than than most of the reboots so far.
I'm really concerned with what I've heen hearing aboht Mulan: first that they were gonna give her a white male love interest, and then that there won't be any songs. Like, wtf do you think people watch Disney films FOR?
That said, if they did a proper adaptation of the Prydain Chronicles, I would totally go see it. Lol.

I agree most of the Disney reboots and sequels are terrible. The sequels seem to only exist to go direct to video/DVD/Blueray/home streaming as fodder for kids and no one ever wanted all those live action remakes. There was a decent film hidden in Maleficent but they are generally drek.
There is literally no point in doing the Mulan film without any songs & added whitewashing. There is no way it can be good.
Mary Poppins could be ok though since it was originally live action instead of turning an animation into a live action film, but as perfect as Emily Blunt is, I wouldn't hold my breathe for it.

They dialled back on it after the negative reaction, but yeah, there are articles about it. I would search one up for you, but it is nearly 2 am here, so I am going to bed, lol. Shang was gonna basically be cut out completely, and rumour has it that in the original script, the white guy would basically usurp the movie and save China, Matt-Damon-Great-Wall-style, while Mulan would do... well, nobody knows what.

I rarely get upset about things like this. I'll retweet and support and reblog but personally I don't necessarily get annoyed. But replacing Shang with a white man and having the white man save China fills me with deep, deep rage.

Anyone else looking forward to Valerian? I don't know what's going on with the story but aliens are everywhere so I'm happy.

Luc Besson films are generally at least interesting, plus I'm getting major Fifth Element vibes from the trailer and the Fifth Element is one of my favouirte films, so I'm excited for it. Edit: OMG I CAN'T SPELL OR TYPE TODAY

Oh, there is a point. I used to work at a really big online toy salesplace and Disney used to make a shit ton of money with the Disney Princess/Princess Line sub-brand, which includes dolls and all merchandise under the sun (I wrote the product texts for the toys for girls age 3-9 + LEGO sections). I still remember the Great Easter Elsa Shortage because Disney had miscalculated at first and somehow thoughts girls wouldn't go for the witch with cool magical powers over her rather standard princess sister and produced too little Elsa merch. But other than Frozen, apparently their other princess sales were starting to lag behind a bit (Mulan, in this context, is also a princess). Hence, I imagine there'll be live reboots of every single Princess movie at the very least because they go with the Disney Princess sub-brand.

She is most little girls dream character. I would say that I'm not sure live action reboots are the way to go here, but the Beauty & the Beast one made like 900 million there is clearly an audience for it but Im just not it.

But she's not a princess, she's a queen. How can girls like a character who is not a princess??? Yeah, I will never let anyone drag me into any of these, but it seems to work on some level. I feel at the most cynical basis it's really just about reminding a new generation certain movies exist (and have dollies made for them) while also raking in nostalgia money. I'm sure Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are somewhere in that remake pipeline as well because parents might be less inclined to show children more old-fashioned animation. But Disney is at its core a money-making machine moreso than even other studios. I mean, I like Tangled and Moana, but they are not making all these female-led children's movies for some sort of creative or social reason, but because they fit into their current marketing concept that is built solidly around the Princess Line.

At the time (circa 2012) Disney Princesses were a 4 billion dollar enterprise.
