Chris Avellone Talks About Same-Sex Romance"We’re including same-sex relationships, open relationships, and gender-specific romances depending on the personality of the characters involved, and we’re not even limiting it to the companions – we’re expanding it further in what I feel is an interesting way (I’d say more, but I don’t want to give any spoilers)." I despise this statement. It's this type of thinking that has denied us a gay KISA/Prince Charming in BioWare games. I can only imagine it will be just as bad if this extends to Pathfinder and Pillars Of Eternity 2. I'm really sick of being denied the type of romance I want just because it "doesn't fit the character". That essentially just translates to "knights and royalty can't be gay". Ugh...I hope they prove me wrong. After being denied Alistair, Sebastian and Cullen...I don't know how much more rejection I can take. I am not familiar with the Pathfinder series...but the fact that it seems very open to same-sex relationships does give a bit of hope. On the other hand...I am interested in the fact that it extends beyond relationships with companions. Maybe they will handle it better than BioWare's awful attempt in Andromeda?

Honestly, this is a big red flag to me as well, whenever someone says it's going to "make sense", it always means they are going to go with the cheapest, most obvious stereotypes. It sounds especially dumb coming from a writer and studio that people praise for defying tropes and all that blah blah. But I don't even know if I would enjoy Avellone's work generally. I might pick up Pillars for console and see how I feel.

Having just read the full article, it's nice to know that same-sex romance is an important part of the overall franchise.

I'm trying to not get my hopes up too high for Kingmaker... but it's so my kind of game. Harrim is certainly a step above Durance (PoE) so far. And i admittedly just base that on his sexy bald head and great eyebrows.

I don't know anything about this game, but that statement does sort of read like we're going to have a couple of bi options to be inclusive but keep most of them straight only.

Yeah, BioWare has left me pretty bitter about these things. I'm still waiting to find out if Pillars Of Eternity will be the one to make me happy by giving male players a chance to be with Eder. Ark I love these types of games as well. I'd really like to see one of these in full 3D like Dragon Age Origins! I don't mind this perspective, but I find it much easier to immerse myself in the world when I can actually see the world and characters instead of relying on character portraits/text! Such a shame BioWare moved away from that...

I wonder if a big reason the first didn't was because Avellone was still there and he's against romances in games... I would be really pleased if POE2 has gay romances, though I'm not going to be surprised if they're only for women. We did have the gay barbarian woman in the DLC (I know, only added in additional content instead of main game) and it is nice to have LGBT characters who aren't just romance options. I would actually be just as happy if POE2 didn't have romances but had LGBT companions. There was a part of me that hoped Eder and Aldoth would have something going. TBH it would never happen but it would have been cool if Aldoth had been considered trans and Eder would realize his sexuality is less narrow than he thought and he could be attracted to someone genderfluid or trans. Makes me think of the dark ages in BG2 with Edwin/Edwina and what could have been there.

I'd love for them to give us Eder as an option instead of going the obvious route and making him straight! But yeah...at the moment there's no real information on how deep the romance system is or how many there will be. I agree that it is nice to have prominent LGBT characters in games. The expansion also introduced a gay couple...but they were minor and unimportant characters and it's extremely easy to miss out on getting the information that they are together. I am hoping that there is better/more LGBT content and they don't shy away from having prominent gay/bi men that are open about their sexuality. They always do it with females, so why not men as well? Believe me, I'd love for Eder to have a more open sexuality! I would be very happy if my male character could enjoy a happy, fairy tale romance with him and break the stereotypes we've been given in the past! If BioWare won't give me a KISA, then maybe Obsidian will?

I wanna print this post out and staple it to the forehead of any idiot who whines, "They're not writing to fill a quota!" when talking about companion characters.

Even more so that they showed the orc guy when talking about "love" So glad I backed this game. It's looking really good. Love those magic spells! Also RAY CHASE voicing the trailer, auto win.
