0:40 Haha! This looks awesome. I like that there's 2 guys in the shot who drool over Gaunt (and many in the crowd as opposed to having only women)... (rofl)

Ughhh I won't be able to watch it on coffee shop wireless, so I'll have to catch up later.
Also, I've realized that dumb memes about games and E3 have replaced avocado memes in my cold, millennial heart.

Of course none of the dumb reporters... no wait, I mean the "reporters", are asking the essential question here: "Can I bang romance everyone in the squad? Yay or nay?". Seriously now... they need to get their priorities straight gay!

You couldn't romance anyone in Pillars 1. Hopefully they've learned, but I wouldn't get too hopeful. It's their biggest failure as a gaming company- let us bang things 2k17.

I'm pretty sure they are including romances in this game. No idea if there will be gay, but I would be surprised if there wasn't. Here is an article with some info about the companions and romance.

Seriously now... they need to get their priorities straight gay! They'd prolly say something along the lines of "We can't talk about it just yet" like usual

Aloth's character icon. I love the new portraits! Although, I feel like that's not what Aloth's nose looks like? and Edér's portrait looks nothing like Edér... but I still really like the portraits, it looks like they kinda changed the style a bit and they look really good. And it's good that we're getting different portraits, and I feel like they kinda show how the characters have aged as well. I especially love Pallegina's portrait. (here are the portraits for reference btw. I took this screenshot a while ago from the youtube vid so idk if they've changed anything) I hope they're adding more PC portraits as well. I'm also really worried about the watercolor portraits, because apparently the game uses those in every conversation (I thought they were going to use it only in the scripted parts) and for my canon character I was using a custom portrait I found, and obviously there's no watercolor version of that. It's going to really bother me if I can't find a portrait I like in the game, because I'll just have to use the normal custom one I found for the dialogue as well, while every NPC in dialogue has a watercolor portrait. They really oughta add more options, there were only 2 male orlan and 3 male pale elf portraits for example. The only reason I didn't go for an orlan playthrough was because I didn't like any of the (2!) portraits. ughhh But other than that... HOLY SHIT this game looks fucking amazing. I love the UI changes, I love the whole open world thing, EVERYTHING LOOKS SO GOOD AND I'M 200% MORE HYPED NOW I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT FOR THIS GAME
also if Aloth is a romance option in this game and isn't available to male characters I'm going to fucking riot (and probably cry)

Tbh there's zero reason for Pillars not to make the companions playersexual. It's not like their sexuality played literally any role before this, and it shouldn't in the future either- just make every companion available for anyone to romance. Make everyone happy.

The options they give you are all really pretty, but there is never one that looks like the character I want. Eventually, I just picked the portrait I liked the most first, and then create my character to look like it.

It definitely looks like a slight style revision, which is fine. I think with the better engine this time around they can fully realize how they want things to look in game, especially when it comes to Godlike. I'm already in love with the new character cast, especially Maia(Kana's sister) and am so glad they decided to bring over Pallegina, Aloth and Eder. I'll miss Hiravias tho. I had a hard time finding character portraits I liked too, especially Wood Elf. I love the female Pale Elf options though so always make a pale elf in the end. Is it 2018 yet?????????

Tbh there's zero reason for Pillars not to make the companions playersexual. It's not like their sexuality played literally any role before this, and it shouldn't in the future either- just make every companion available for anyone to romance. Make everyone happy. It did though. Well, kind of. I was thinking the same thing before playing White March, but Maneha was gay, and she explicitly stated it. She turned down Kana when he was flirting with her and said she preferred women, and she had a crush on Pallegina that you could ask her about. That means they've set a precedent that companions can be interested in only one gender. Now, to be fair, there was no romance in PoE1 so I guess you could say that Maneha being gay doesn't really mean anything, because the concept of "playersexual" didn't exist in the first game anyway, because there were no romances. But idk... I still really hope the romance options are playersexual, but I feel like charactes will have their own sexualities. And I know Obsidian is all about roleplaying and player choice so one would assume that if there are straight romance options, there are also gay romance options for both male and female players, because that would allow players to roleplay as gay/bi if they want, and that's Obsidian for you, right? I mean, for example in the first game you could actually play as a gay/bi character if you picked the Ixamitl+Philosopher background because in the beginning of the game when Calisca asks you why you came to the Dyrwood, you have the option to mention you used to be married, and the game lets you say "wife" or "husband" for both male and female characters. (That also means gay marriage exists in Ixamitl so yay!) Either way, this means that the game recognizes that you might be playing as a gay character, so it would only be natural to continue that in the second game. But they also said that the whole "deeper companion relationships" thing is supposed to feel organic and true to the characters themselves, so I'm assuming that means that if a character is not interested in romance for whatever reason, they're not going to be a romance option. They're not thinking of it as "2 straight, 2 gay, 2 bi romance options for equal opportunity" or something. I think they're trying to go for "romancing characters is not a mechanic in this game" (probably to avoid backlash from their fans and the game being labeled as a "dating sim" by them) and just making it a part of the normal "deeper companion relationships" mechanic for specific characters. That might leave us players with only straight romance options, assuming there will even be several options. So for example, out of all the companions in the game, say, Edér might be the only "romanceable" character, because he's the only one interested in a romance, because that's part of his character and personality and it's a part of his relationship arc if the player chooses it. And guess what, he's straight. And that's it. Or, maybe he and Pallegina are the only romanceable characters, and they're still both straight. Or whatever. I'm just saying, from what they've told us so far, I really got the impression that romances are not, like, a Thing in this game. They're just a natural part of the companion relationships for some characters, if they player so chooses. And I am really worried, because this means there might be no gay romance options in Deadfire. so my point is please Obsidian let me hold Aloth's hand and tell him I love him and that I care about him because he needs to fucking hear it goddamn it let me love this smol mentally ill boi and be there for him
