I'm irrationally terrified that Bioware is going to pull a "you can't play as a woman character sorry." This thought has been jumping around in my mind every now n then as well. But it is Bioware so I hope that's not the case. I was super bummed out to see ELEX is not going to have gender choice protag despite being an open world "rpg"..  |

Well I mean... if it's a pre-defined character I don't think it's that big a deal? Because then it's not really an RPG, anyway. It's not so much "you can't play as a female character" as it is "you can't play as anyone but this character". If they actually let us customize our characters and don't include a gender option, though, that would be kinda fucked up. I don't think that's very likely though, it's Bioware after all.
Edit: Yeah it really bothers me that people still call games that are obviously not actual RPGs, RPGs. Stop calling every game with skill trees and RPG elements an "RPG". The term has lost its meaning tbh

I mean, it might be a linear story with a fixed protagonist. |

There are valid reasons for going with a more pre-defined character and not having a gender option does not mean that a game can't be an RPG. It's just that far too few of the pre-defined characters (in RPGs and other genres) are women, unfortunately. |

I didn't know that (about Elex). I'm starting to think this game is old news? I saw it while perusing E3 vids on youtube and I assumed it was with them haha... But yeah, if it's another "best thing ever" Witcher str8 nerd wet dream I'll pass. I mean, it's Piranha Bytes. I loved Gothic and all, but I cannot remember even one significant character from that series. They're really bad at that... |
