Yeah screen noise and glitch effects are rough, I struggle with first person as it is usually and stuff getting stuck on my screen, especially when it's flashing and freaking out is annoying. The mods got rid of all the effects except for the GUI/Mini map flashing (so I at least know when it's happening along with the 'relic malfunction' notice) but it's still annoying. Also, I'm just about done with being forced to play the Silverhand parts. I'm playing as a Netrunner build and rarely fire a shot so forcing me into combat with him is not fun in the slightest. Also the only way I managed to get through that forced sex scene with Alt was by character swapping. Like... I really don't care about him. Oh to imagine what the game might have been if they hadn't forced Silverhand into the story at the last minute.

Honestly, even though I learned to like Johnny somewhat (mostly just to make the game less painful at points for myself), yeah you can just tell so much of the game suffers because it's "his story" not v's. ESPECIALLY the endings.

Honestly, even though I learned to like Johnny somewhat (mostly just to make the game less painful at points for myself), yeah you can just tell so much of the game suffers because it's "his story" not v's. ESPECIALLY the endings. Honestly it just feels like Silverhand is overshadowing V. In my head canon Silverhand doesn't exist and things play out very differently because ugh. But from a gameplay point of view ignoring that, it just becomes tedious. He says he knows stuff about our past... so how about we play as him going through our past instead of being forced into his (oh look, here's where those origin options they cut out of the game like 'why did you come to night city' could have come in handy.) I don't need nor want to play as him. I don't need to see him being an asshole to everyone, or failing at taking down Arasaka, or fucking Alt, I don't care. I'm here for my V, not the celebrity cameo. (I love Keanu but omg the game did not need him.) He also has such a split personality, one moment he's nice, the next he's a douche bag outta nowhere. The only reason I'm gonna play somewhat nice with him is I want the secret ending and you have to pick certain choices in one of his lil quests to get it. Speaking of endings, I'm still salty over them all. Story wise the Nomad one seems the most hopeful of you finding a cure - but you ride off into the sunset with Panam (and Judy depending on story stuff) whilst leaving the male romances behind. And honestly, I don't want to ride off into the sunset and leave Night City. The other options are equally meh though at least the secret one would work for the V I'm playing, but it's that 'yeah you're still dying' that is utter shit. I get it fits the depressing setting and is kinda bittersweet but fuck that, give me a cure, let me upload my soul into a robot that looks like my V, idk, anything but the shitty ending where you get uploaded because fuck Arasaka.

Speaking of endings, I'm still salty over them all. I would have liked either the rogue or secret ending (as they are both basically the same), but even accepting that v is going to die-I can't get past how stupid that whole last mission to rob a space casino is. It's so desperate to be "cool". What would have been cool is if he would have stayed with his boyfriend (river in my case) and enjoyed his final days.

The endings seemed very bladerunner to me and less informed by the source material. In general I think CDPR has to have their guy they sympathize with, so they resurrected both Geralt and Johnny from the satisfying end of their story arcs and brought back unsatisfying shadows of their characters. Like Johnny in the TT is a metaphor for how anti war Vietnam vet artists were selling out, their music for charity ineffectual, and that they’d eventually have to fight the corporations destroying the world and ruining the futures of the people they care about. But for a while Johnny does what happened IRL, supports a working from inside the corporate structure, making good money, and getting lazy (Alt’s story). Essentially he symbolizes the author’s dissatisfaction with how hippy activists and later punk activists, easily went on to empower the war machine. Eventually Johnny does more than the bare minimum. He dies as a result, but his activist band mates survive to carry his legacy. But CDPR brings him back to….. be Keanu. And I guess he has plans to do more, but IMO the symbolism gets muddy.
kinda like how book Geralt sacrifices his life to save a “monster” from a mob because he realizes bigoted humans are the most deadly monsters. Where as game Geralt is constantly a metaphor for not taking a stand, book Geralt literally is political.
also I thinks it’s telling CDPR projected the lazy, sellout Johnny era onto Kerry. CDPR can’t have their boy be bad, but the gays can sell out.

The ending is definitely dumb and I have zero interest in an open ended 'well you might find a cure' bullshit. Though I guess I should be thankful it's open ended if you pick any of those options that give it, rather than a 'you die at the end no matter what' ending. Still bullshit. As for Kerry I really liked what we saw of him in Silverhand's flashbacks. Seeing him become some sell out who doesn't want to age gracefully and then the whole... awkwardness of his romance is just... ugh. I'm still questioning them making him the gay option when he's bisexual in canon. I don't know why they couldn't have made the romances either all bisexual, or added more options. Not that it really matters in the long run considering you never really 'lock in' the romance and Panam, or River will happily come onto you if you've already been with Kerry, or Judy. Overall I'm just... confused by the direction of the storyline and really think it was made worse by forcing Silverhand into it front and centre. I really liked the idea of V's character, Night City, making it big, working with gangs and trying to make it to the top... and then you've got the chip and Silverhand suddenly thrown into that mix, and any gang connection or... connection with anyone really outside of the 'main ones' is either lacklustre or doesn't exist. I really wanted to work with certain gangs, get my approval up, maybe even join them but most you'll either not interact with, or have one little quest. I'm also exploring new areas where I doubt anyone has ever even heard of my V but I'm getting Fixer's and other people contact him the second he crosses a border. Street Cred feels like it should work differently than just unlocking new missions (in places you've never been so how have they heard of you) and gating gear behind it.

I stand by what I said above - I believe legit getting Keanu Reeves led to a storyjacking by Johnny, and I think that they kinda scrambled to rework what existed, given that this game was in development for like close to a decade already, rather than go back to the start.
I never sold off my copy of the game - even GameStop's "give you five dollars for the brand new game" approach probably wouldn't apply given the controversy, so I've just held on to it, and... A year later, I kinda want to poke around at it - I would think that, by now, the console bricking is an issue of the past, so it would at least be playable on my PS4. And this way I don't have to wait at least another year for a console upgrade. But I'm... nervous all the same.

And this way I don't have to wait at least another year for a console upgrade. But I'm... nervous all the same. Agreed. Earlier footage doesn't have him, and I think at some point Silverhand was in the files/earlier development looking very different. But then they got Keanu on board and decided to ride his coat tails and had to scramble and change everything to wedge him in. Honestly, other than an achievement I guess, why the fuck would I ever give up my body to him? That's one of those endings that just... rubs me sideways. Most of the others I can kinda understand even if some are a little dumb. I suppose if you get bored you could give it a shot. I have gotten more bugs/glitches the longer I've played. A few times I've called for my bike and it has ended up hovering in the air (which I can mount but not ride) or the tires have sunk into the ground so I can't ride either. Also had a few quests glitch either because I hopped on my bike for an escort mission, or didn't take the exact path the AI wanted me to take when walking instead, and it broke the npc and I had to reload. I've still got the odd missing texture issue pop up, and I've had a couple crashes in 36 hours. But fps wise it has been pretty stable on PC at least with max settings, dlss (no ray tracing though) and a reshade. Hopefully for older consoles it might be at least more stable if nothing else from all the bug fixes.

I think the changes they made to Johnny to make him the second protagonist also weakened the Baby’s First Themes that are in the original Cyberpunk sources. Like Johnny is a self insert, anyone can stand up against corruption, use your tools and fight. But to make him the Soulkilled entity we deal with… the symbolism of the original Soulkiller is that if you work for evil, you give evil your soul. I know Alt is in the game still, but having Johnny also be Soulkilled… not into it. He should be dead. Dead is good sometimes for good story telling.
and it cheapens Alt’s story in the long run cause now Johnny knows the things only she should, and he essentially becomes her character. It’s kinda frustrating cause you get a worse Johnny blended with a worse Alt.

They have it off 50% on Steam this weekend, can’t see it going lower (usually only two year old games start going below 50% price from my experience). So I got it…. I may finish downloading it by Christmas… internet lost to large file size

it's odd to me that it costs more on pc. People were getting it for 10 bucks on console (not just during Black Friday/holiday sales either I picked up a second copy back during the summer for that for my ps5 should the upgrade be better there)

I don’t get it either. I’d rather pay the console prices, but I haven’t bought a single game in 2021… and I hate to give that honor to CDPR but I’m bored.

Yeah Console you could get it super cheap. 50% off on Steam is the cheapest I've ever seen it go, and is likely the cheapest it ever will go for quite some time. I mean, it was enough to get me to buy it, lol.

Also, for all that the big companies tried to undermine the used market, it's still doing well enough that you can find most of the games at sale prices on the regular if you're willing to scrounge a little. Hell, there are still some decent prices for games that are now like twenty years old - the store where I get my comic pulls functions a lot like GameStop, and while they were having a moving sale, I managed to pick up a handful of original Xbox games for about forty bucks total.

I thought I’d play unmodded for a bit. To see what mods I might like…. I made it to character creation screen, closed out, and got a new body texture. What the fuck is the default male body texture.

I must have had about ten mods just for character creator alone, a body mod being one of them. IDK what it is with games like this and the body textures being kinda bad sometimes.

I tried the corpo intro cause I was aware it was cut down a lot…. But not to what extent. Why even include that in the final game. It was just walking down ugly halls and then the normal intro.

I always found the street kid path to be the shortest. I like its lines best in the game proper though, but then again Corpo has a good deal more if memory serves. Nomad is the longest intro, but also my least favorite simply because of the car pew pew sequence that goes on for too long. I don't like gunplay as it was. Also, it feels quite random if the game will let me shoot properly or not. Somedays I can take all the vans out easily enough-and sometimes I might as well just let it play out without any input on my part as my bullets are missing no matter where I aim.

I just did the nomad. I’m pretty terrible at guns, stealth, um, basically it all. Honestly ha e no idea if I did anything during rye car stuff. I’m enjoying it though. I haven’t honestly played a non fantasy video game in a while it’s just nice to be in a different genre. But mostly I wandered around staring at the weird filer NPCs and laughing at their bizarre generic dialogue.

I tried the Nomad start to see how the Nomad V I'll play after my current Street Kid one looked in game. It definitely felt longer than my Street Kid's intro did but that might have been down to the shooting part. I've done very little gun combat in this game that wasn't me playing as Silverhand, so me trying to aim and shoot at people whilst in a moving car went... very poorly. I do however have zero interest in playing the Corpo life path though. Maybe if we'd had romances that 'matched' every life path I might have been tempted, but meh, I have no interest in playing a Corpo in a game like this, not unless I planned to ignore the majority of [Corpo] choices and could do a yolo fuck the system type run.
I'm loving my current Street Kid playthrough though, and I'm kinda excited for my Nomad run, I just hope the life paths get as much dialogue content as each other.
