Just got around to checking out the new Halsin prologue, you can finally go with him properly. Mostly the same, but glad of what they added all the same. It's amusing because when I did my Halsin run before the party patch, whilst I didn't get the 'don't be an ass I'm coming with you now' option, the game still treated it the same as when you get that dialogue option now. Aka Halsin and my Drow arrived at the party together with the Narrator mentioning (in both versions) that my Drow was gone for 'a ten day' and then went with Halsin and had been with him the last 6 months building up their sanctuary together. I didn't mind obviously, I was mad when I first did his romance that I couldn't suggest going with him straight away so I am glad they finally added that option, even if you do stay behind for a little while first before joining him. -- I'm eventually going to make a new character just for Ascended!Astarion (I tested Ascending out on my character who I made during EA and have been romancing Astarion with, and playing non stop for like, 3 years, and I now don't like it because of what they did with the kisses so new character is needed for Ascension path) and I had a thought. Withers and DUrge. Considering what happens in that moment would it be considered a True Resurrection? When Bhaal kills a resist DUrge it is made clear that they are dead dead. No basic bitch resurrection scroll is going to help, they are gone for good. They are dead. Then Withers being the bro he is just goes 'nah' and resurrects you. So like... is that considered a true resurrection and everything that comes with a true resurrection? Because I can't help but wonder how lore wise that would interact with spawn DUrge. If it is a true resurrection then should spawn!DUrge technically come back as a non spawn? I know it won't matter game wise, but story wise I plan to Ascend Astarion first and then go deal with Orin and Bhaal and I can't help but think about it.

I would assume that whatever Withers does there is narrative convenience levels of we don’t know.
True Resurrection cures all diseases and curses but technically vampirism is a transformation of the soul and would not be cured. But that might not be what Larian intended as True Resurrection is often interpreted to cure things like vampirism, people say it cures ceremorphisis but that’s actually unclear too but I believe this game implies it does. So basically, it’ll be up to the DM (Larian).
But Withers could probably cast Wish in that moment and that would cure Vampirism. It doesn’t sound like wish but withers is different than vlaakith and the Innevitables might not need him to specifically ask for a wish. So I doubt Larian would care if rules were bent as we’re dealing with Divine Intervention levels of power.
So I’d say it’s unclear unless Larian is explicit. But I’d think they’d probably assume it would be like the tadpole in that moment

Without clarification either way (and it not mattering from a gameplay point of view) I'm just gonna go with the idea it cures it just because I can't help but imagine Astarion being annoyed by it, and it amuses me. And then everyone at camp face-palms when my dumbass Drow inevitably asks him to do it again because unhealthy coping mechanisms. I accidentally played the new hotfix without realizing it was out/downloaded when I was trying a few things out on my new Druid, so at least it didn't bork script extender or my visual mods as far as I can tell. I still don't know whether I want to risk starting a new character though because the patch notes do not mention fixing some of the game breaking bugs from patch 6/hotfixes (like the orbs in the Temple of Shar.) Do I risk it and deal with getting blocked because of a bug or do I keep waiting, and waiting.

I’ve not had that seam on Gale but I get some randomly on mostly environmental meshes that I personally only noticed since patch 5. Davrin's boobs there is a book that talks about Abdel but it also refers to him as a Bhaalspawn not the Bhaalspawn. And Viconia they imply fed her memories to Shar (which is not really a thing outside this game but whatever) and it hollowed her out. But they also imply she still was somewhat loyal to Lolth (insulting) and they sully the post bg2 plot where she becomes a hero with Drizzt, whic is the WOTC default non romance arc lol. It’s also wild she turned from Lolth to Shar all those years ago cause she refused to sacrifice a child only to become a child abuser lol (poor Shar. Once upon a time that would not believably be something you would do. But that boat sailed).
Shar used to explicitly forbid anyone too young from joining her covens. Dark Moon Monks RIP. It also used to be you couldn’t join a Sharran circle if you did so unwillingly, as your test had to be killing someone from your past life willingly (so how did Ketheric become a Sharran lol). So part of why Viconia is so disappointing is cause bg1 and 2 were still operating when Shar hadn’t quite become so inconsistent and they tweaked her in weird ways to fit the new Shar.
Viconia felt Shar was a goddess of principles compared to Lolth, a demon lord. Which used to be true as demons were so evil that Shar and Selune would occasionally fight them together. oh totally agree the character development being thrown to the trash of Viconia is even worse for what you said, pretty much the only redeeming quality about her was that she wasnt as -culturally speaking -evil as most of drows from Menzoberranzan and the fact they made her kinda cartoonishly evil is just well, disappointing, I totally get why fans of the classics are pissed, just imagine if in BG4 the redeemption arcs for Shadowheart, Lae'zel, Astarion were thrown to the trash like that... Ooooh well i'm just glad my canon romance was Glint a character who wont appear ever in the game, less chances to ruin him as character lol Also, why a player that doesnt know her would spare her? I did because I know her but people that dont have zero reasons to do it. But its interesting what you said about the mirror, I didnt think about that, hope good Viconia is there somewhere, maybe she could join the party in BG4 with a redemption arc About Abdel, thats nice, more reason for headcanon'ng that that bitch was not Gorion's ward haha, my Bhaalspawn was a gur shaman with his link to the spiritual world severed due Bhaal essence and that he totally got his spirit friends back after refusing immortality, a totally homosexual man who had the hots for a hot blackguard and then spent the rest of his life with the sweet vanishing gnome! He wasnt that bland character who died pathetically lol edit. oh talking about the gurs, I really liked them in act 3, I havent done Astarion's quest yet but they are monster hunters!!! and the whole story about how the romani counterpart of the forgotten realms are linked to an evil vampire makes my little buffy fan heart warmer! haha edt2. Viconia fight was some serious bullshit lol I had to use barrels to explode some enemies

It said even though Halsin wanted to leave the city right away the two stayed for a ten day to help with the repairs before leaving to start their home together. So they stay together the whole time now.

happy to hear Halsin romance is in a better place now! I wonder what would have happened for my canon playthrough if they did it from the beginning before Wyll stealing my heart with his chivalrous tricks! I did the hag quest (die bitch for good) and Astarion's quest, the fight itself is not that hard, I just made it hard for myself cause I like to knock out animals and he kept summoning bats lol I got tired and I used area of effect spells, fuck them all, kinda reminded me to the wolves I killed in the shipwrecked ship of Balduran in the first game Oh baby sweet Astarion, his scene was so sad, first I decided to not do anything and he wished me death and left I reloaded and persuaded him... and released 7000 vampires to the underdark lolol my vampire slayer senses are tingling the underdark is a dangerous place so I doubt most of them are gonna make it, they are not as powerful as true vampires, as far as I know a true vampire (I have no idea if it has to be the maker or any true vampire) has to willingly give their blood and I doubt that's possible for them. Oh well, thats a problem for other people not my neutral good warlock (also Wyll agreed ) and I had the gurs as allies now! I know its just headcanon but it feels like a connection to my Gorion's ward, how his people even if its not the same tribe are gonna help to the upcoming battle

OMG I just did the sex scene with the Emperor, that was hot lmao ofc I reloaded I cant do that to poor Wyll, I MEAN theres no even reaction to the romance you are currently pursuing, like I would have loved the drama and saying sorry to Wyll but theres nothing so whatever, but DUDE give me a Omeluum-like good boy illithid romance for BG4 and I'm SOLD lol the character playing with the Emperor's tentacles lmao IM LIVING haha I know who he really is (Balduran, hello, my BG1/2 character has some item of yours!) I got spoiled sadly long time ago but if this squidman would have been truly good, I think I would be in a harder situation choosing a canon romance even if it's only this scene I will comment about the Balduran revelation later when I get there and have all the details but after all these decades of mystery behind his journey its nice the revelation is in this game

I finally killed Orin and I had to killer her several times because Minthara's approval (she gives different dialogues if you take her with you to the fight or let Orin abducts her). Hold monster is still the most op spell of my warlock, feeling like a badass Piper Halliwell haha. Her minions with sanctuary though? Annoying.
I was scared about Minthara's approval, I know you dont have to 100% her, its just my stubbornness haha. I had to get caught stealing something to meet the talking skull in the prison to get the last 3 points for her (by just getting right Marvin's riddles). I need to explore the sewers fully just for completion's sake and the city too but I think I have done pretty much every single side quest. I only have left save the gondians whom are linked to Wyll's father, also linked to the quest from the Umberlee priestesses, the quest chain is kinda weird ... I read its very hard to save all the gondians and everyone in the Iron Throne... urghh. And I still gotta face Raphael aaaaand meet the dragon Ansur (scared lol) But at least I dont have to be worried abour approval anymore and that Orin bitch edit. Also PORTRAIT! I want to extract that edit2. I didnt expect to love Minthara this much, this is the dialogue you get from her if she is abducted after killing SPOILERS it breaks my heaaart

So after Patch 6, the hotfixes that followed, and the various bugged stuff I decided that when I started new characters I'd redownload all my mods just to check everything was up to date and uhh... 195 mods later and that's not even all of the ones I plan to use as I still have some waiting to download for when I do a specific DUrge run. I mean, I'm not gonna use all 195 at once as a lot of them are multiple CC or armour mods that I will pick through for each character but lmao. Most time consuming part is adding them back into the mod manager in a specific order because some things require to be loaded in certain spots (it's Skyrim all over again.) I have time off work now so despite stuff still being buggy I will likely jump into my next character and hope for the best + save a lot. I'm just finding it hard to choose between doing my Gale, or Asc!Ast run first.

Mods are great but they definitely take a lot of time.
I think I have 450ish mods lol. But probably 100+ aren’t necessary and are like.. horns. Even though I haven’t made a tiefling as I can’t not play half orc.
the good news is that for mods that edit the same thing, there’s a lot more comparability than Skyrim. For instance, if you edit a spell you can edit parts of the spell and still work with a mod that edits other parts. Skyrim basically you could not do that with out comparability patches. Usually.
or even editing an npc for instance. Skyrim editing a face edits the whole npc even combat stats. So I haven’t met any bugs like I would modding Skyrim.
and most things I think are a mod bug are actually game update related

Yeah it's always fun to play 'did the update break the game or did the mod break the game' but considering I've been modding for 10+ years with Skyrim/Fallout you get used to things bugging out and having to wait.
I'd say a good chunk of mine are character creator/outfit/dye mods. I've played the game so many times now that I like to have new shiny things for each playthrough.
I'm still slowly putting everything into the manager though, it's time consuming for sure. At least with Skyrim and Vortex, a lot of mods would be put into categories. With this I have to just scroll through everything slowly to try and put an order together myself. I will likely add every mod I currently have into one save order, and then remove mods as needed for individual playthroughs because I don't need seven hair mods or six face mods when I generally plan out a character ahead of time and know which ones I need. (Also far less likely to break a game using a select amount than all at once, especially with mods being hidden on the nexus or possibly no longer updated.)

I am a nerd and have 50ish mods trying to get the mechanics the way I like (critical misses, fatigue, jumping roll checks) which is even what I do on Skyrim (requiem all the way).
In BG3MM I added dummy paks in a zip folder as mod categories, which is kinda a bad solution, but it’s what I went with. I’m only well versed in Mod Organizer 2 (with Skyrim MO2 let’s you run distinct instances of the game and not have to mod your steam folder). Have thought about going to Vortex for this game but I never liked the spiderweb priority thing it has.

I think I only have left release Orpheus, Gortash fight and the Netherbrain final boss, but dude act 3 is full of difficult bosses, how you guys do it in harder difficulties when I play this again it will be in explorer/easy for sure, I mean I always make harder to myself cause I dont like to change the default clothes of companions (only changed Wyll's for roleplaying reasons) but holy shit this game is so difficult sometimes, I have been abusing of hold monster and when the boss is too damn hard I killed it with barrels lmao (sorry Ansur t.t ), I used barrels yesterday to even the odds in Raphael's fight and kill those cambions (with globe of invulnerability in Korrilla to make Hope happy), anyways one devil that Faerun wont be worried about lol I forgot to mention but nice Siege of Dragonspear reference with Jaheira's necklace, that aquamarine necklace was the one that Bg1/2 character helped to make with Khalid, ohhh Khalid my poor dude About Ansur and... Balduran, like THEY WERE GAY FOR EACH OTHER, that mod changing the title to Baldurs Gay is just canon at this point haha, its fuuuuull of lgbtq characters and couples, I dont even remember when was the last straight couple I saw in this game lmaaao BIOWARE WOULD NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER, I would like to see the faces of those scumbags that talked shit about Siege of Dragonspear for having one trans character or the EEs for having gay/lesbian romances and BG3 is x100000infinite more inclusive haha All the companions flirting with each other, Nocturne, Barcus, Isobel and Aylin, Raphael, motherfucking Balduran and his romance with a motherfucking bronze dragon its just so damn great, how many lgbtq queer characters are visible and relevant here. Speaking of those two, its so fucking SAD, they loved each other so much and then the abduction happened, its so sad how Balduran ended up but I'm gonna betray the emperor anyways, he just isnt the Balduran of the legends anymore but I'm glad that the mystery was solved here after all this time, I remember how I was very into the mystery of Balduran and his last voyage, reading notes in the his ship in BG1. Sad all went back, this universe is lethal. And I'm so sad for Ansur, I'm so fucking sad edit. Forgot to mention, the Iron throne... sorry but that was awful I saved all the people, Wyll's father (pact broken), Omeluum and all the gondians but I hated it, also I save all the gondians in the foundry cause I killed every bad guy before the iron throne, it seems is easier to keep them alive as enemies than as allies lol when you return to the foundry everyone is celebrating. Speaking of Wyll's content, it really feels like his father does not have line for when you break the pact and save him, at least thats what I understood lol even though Mizora is all bitchy for saving him without her help. WYLL NEEDS MORE CONTENT, his act 3 romance proposal scene was very sweet, but TOO SHORT

Post by mediocreogre on Mar 6, 2024 21:36:30 GMT
Wyll needs a bit of love for sure.
And I am very glad BG3 put so many lgbtq characters in (even Abigail thorn got a role in the game, though… so fucking minor lol) cause D&D official faerun lore is basically straight. Ed Greenwood is cool in some ways, but every god is straight, lesbians exist for titillation, and gay guys exist in whispers and sex changes are punishments for dudebros like Old Stinkbeard Elminster. So this was better
I also think it’s fascinating cause basically BG3 is (to use a term I hate) “woke” but a lot of video game reactionaries have ignored things they would have whined about because let’s face it it’s hard to hate a product that is basically full of love for games and all the people who play them and the source material.

Wyll does need a lot of love, he certainly needs something to bridge the gap between 'let's dance' and 'marry me.' I got massive whiplash when I did his romance at how quick that came. But it's great they added so much, it has been fun to watch the piss babies cry about wokeness and lesbians and bear fucking. I for one am very thankful that all of the romance options are bi. Other than DA2 most games have set sexualities for 'realism' but 'realism' just means less content. I'm happy that I can, if I want, romance everyone in this game without needing a mod to do it because every single game I have ever played with set sexualities I have always wanted the straight guy over whatever option they gave m/m. (99% of the time it's the depraved bisexual who only talks about how much they love fucking women.) Or it's the absolute psycho murder hobo that makes zero sense to bring into your party, let alone romance them. Yes I am still mad about Rogue Trader only giving one option without mods.It has been a long time since I played a game where I loved so many companions and wanted to do so many playthroughs. I've completed the game at least eight times, very likely more (my memory is crap) I have at least another eight characters planned and that's the thing, I'm far more willing to replay a game a lot if I get something like this, even if I play the game the exact same way story wise, there's still differences and choices.
One thing I will say is like many other games, BG3 made me love certain npcs enough that I am very sad they aren't romances/flings. (It's Deacon from F4 all over again. ) Just let me bang Gortash, and Raphael already Larian.

Hotfix 21 looks like it fixed a lot of main issues (still no mention about the Orbs in the Shar Temple unless I missed that elsewhere.) It's probably good I didn't start my new character yet, I'm going to have to wait for my UI mods to update and see if anything else got hosed along with it.
Edit: Apparently they fixed Minthara spoiling act 3 but now she can't stop talking about Gale and Elminster instead.

I finally finished the game, so many feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelings About the final boss, once I found out those arcanist illithid bitches dont move if you stay put it was easier, just hold monster the dragon, kill everyone + emperor, then focuse on the dragon and finally the arcanists but maaan I didnt use any allies til that part and I only used the dragon, the fire from Rolan and I think thats it cause I didnt want anybody to die I savescumed the 99 skill check lol so the netherbrain was like 1/3. Now, the ending, I chose to go to the Avernus with my future husband and my best friend, that was so fucking epic and even Wyll has one romance line in the dock while Karlach is dying, I criiiied I love Karlach so much and again, that scene with the three of them running to slay some demons and devils was so epic, it reminded to Angel series finale, and then the epilogue, I'm so glad I'm so slow playing videogames cause that epilogue was perfect, seeing every single companion happy and hugging half of them makes my heart so soft also the letters in the chest of grateful words!!! Special mention to Scratch and owlbear cub, my children I sent the owlbear with Shadowheart, so she is with company in her travels, Halsin has a lot of adopted kids anyways haha Also, it seems that Karlach is gonna get her happy ending soon, and her, Wyll and main character can travel again to Faerun anytime awwww Ohhh and Wyll becomes a ranger after losing his warlock powers, I was expecting paladin or fighter, but that works too for a monster slayer also, romancing him as warlock really gave me so much understanding of his situation and now that he is a different class it was just perfect as I like my romance being a different class of my character haha but I loved this experience of being the same class as him too! The romance bit was so cute too, but I had less dialogue with him and Karlach and more with the others, I guess its because I have been with them in Avernus lol I dont know. As annoying as I was with the freaking approval, and I ended up with everyone at 100 except Wyll with 99 cause he didnt approve intimidating the diabolist sorry those super strength globes are mine. first marriage dispute i guess! haha And that post-credit scene? Withers???????

Withers Is insulting his children, the Dead Three, for being too stupid to realize illithids don’t have souls and can’t power divinity. Illithids being from a future where there are implied to be no gods but the great old ones who aren’t gods as we know gods
But if you talk to Bane using dead Gortash as a medium, you learn they actually knew this and just wanted to weaken the big gods. I also think Jergal mentions the Dark Sun (Cyric) elsewhere in game and the Dead Three seem to know Cyric (who usurped them, leading to their deaths before BG1) is up to shit and they were preparing for his return. Cyric makes the Dead Three look like weaklings. Shar and Cyric are semi connected and hate eachother and Shar seemed to be preparing as well. Cyric could kill her and he’s mad at her for manipulating him into getting Ao’d.
Cyric is definitely going to be the next villain if they do a BG4, as he’s essentially the Not Dead Fourth. And it would fit Wthered Jergal still having one more of his messes to clean up before he can return to his glorious bug form.
Mystra being heavily in this also helps set the stage as Cyric and Mystra were once friends. And he did kill her after BG2.
edit: oh and I forgot the Arbiter that Withers mentions in the beginning is Kelemvor, who was friends with Midnight (Mystra) and Cyric. Another hint.
Jergal is also one of Shar’s children (and Selune) and so he might be intending to protect his mommies from Cyric.
Cyric is also heavily implied to be working with the primordial evils that Shar and Selune were created to banish. Particularly Tharizdun.

Larian continues to change things. First hammering home 'Ascended Astarion is evil and abusive look at those kisses and how wrong you are for doing this' (whilst ignoring the fuckery of Justicar!Shadowheart, and Minthara) and have now changed Minthara's romance so that if you romance her and play as a Resist!DUrge she will get big mad and dump your ass after the confrontation in the Temple.
Well, good to know. I had planned to do a (good) run with her and a resist!DUrge because they're both rejecting Gods that had used and abused them and whelp, so much for that.

I'm cranky that I lost a bunch of play time because my dumb ass didn't f5 enough and then I got a dialogue bug with Spaw when it came to handing over Nere's head so I had to force quit the game and redo the entire Forge fight all over again. But a friend linked me to this Tiermaker of Smash or Pass characters and I have amused myself with it. Though after two more attempts (this time making sure to save) I think I will give up on trying to finish the quest as the dialogue just freezes up every time Spaw tries to reward me for the head.
