I just finished the season finale of Harlots. Such a good show! There are some LGBT characters, but I wouldn't say they're the main characters by any means. There's a lesbian couple and a gay guy with a sick boyfriend. There are a lot of shippable f/f ships, besides them. I hope that, if there's a 2nd season, that there's more of the LGBT characters. its historical i dont like it, its usually very dark with lots of homophobia, i know its realistic and all, but i try to avoid it

There's racism and sexism, but there hasn't been much homophobia yet. Not saying you have to watch it, regardless. If you don't like historical stuff, then you don't like that, and there's not much I can say to change your tastes.

I was just starting Buffy The Vampire Slayer...when my Hulu subscription suddenly ended. Such a shame, I was enjoying it. I ended up migrating back to Netflix and caught some classic films instead. "Three Coins In The Fountain" and "Carousel". I really enjoyed both and I now have the Carousel soundtrack stuck in my head. Ome of my favorite shows, "Bones", just ended recently and "Pretty Little Liars" will be over soon as well. That only leaves me with "The Walking Dead"...but I've pretty much lost interest in that one. I'll probably just purchase Buffy The Vampire Slayer and watch that along with other old shows "Laverne And Shirley", "The Golden Girls", and "The Nanny".

I am still watching The Handmaid's Tale and I wanted something less heavy after that, that shit is depressing. So Harlots seems fun? nice to know there are LGBT characters.

I'm only watching American Gods at this point, because both myself and gf are Gaiman trash. There are gay dudes in it. The gay ladies haven't shown up yet. {exception}well, except for the women that Bilquis shoves into her vagina, I guess? I'm gonna go ahead and not count them.
Emphasis on "yet", by the way. One of my favorite characters in the book is a gay lady that we're probably not going to see until late in this season.

The queer ladies are not exactly the most important part of the story, lol, but they're there. There's queer shit in The Sandman, but "most progressive shit that mainstream comics will publish" in the late eighties and early nineties still is kinda awkward nowadays. I would say read Sandman for the fact that it's one of the greatest fantasy epics of all time, and also because comics.

I thought as much, American Gods to me seems to be more about Moon journey(and some NewvsOld gods wars on the side) or at least that is what it look like from the episodies. Also Gillian Anderson is in there too. Humm so Sandman first? I knew he had done comics but I really never touched anything.

Most of Gaiman's stories aren't really connected to each other; when he finally finishes the sequel to American Gods, that'll be the exception (even Anansi Boys isn't really connected), but it's not like you need to read the one to figure out the other. The Sandman is huge and influential and amazing, but it's also a lot to roll through. American Gods is something you can kill in a weekend. If you're watching the show, I'm not sure whether you want to read it just yet or not (since there is a massive spoiler that they deliberately avoided in the show so far), but you probably should at some point. And, of course, he's written loads of other great stuff, like Good Omens (with the late Terry Pratchett), The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Stardust (excellent book, badly underrated film), Anansi Boys, Neverwhere (no matter what Panda says)...he's got that new collection of Norse Mythology out, too. Anyway. I'm shitting up the thread with non-TV stuff. Sorry.

So if they are not connected I will probably start with American Gods and Sandman, that collection of Norse Mythology sounds interesting too. Also thank you for the in depth recommendation.
