post whatever you like, nothing's wrong with trying to start a new conversation strand in a thread. this happens all the time and people here are not (yet ) judgemental about that Are you judging us for not being judgmental enough? If I say judge enough will it sound judgmental? Judddgggeeey.. So what do you all want to see in this mythical romance outfit we are getting? I'm still hoping for underoos for scott with his ass hanging out. But pretty sure that won't come to pass. So maybe at least silk shorts and a shirt that's unbuttoned? I think at least a shirt with some buttons undone; that is what I imagined when I originally saw that it would be an outfit appropriate for romance scenes. Also, it works for both genders, and can perhaps also be used to walk around in and not look completely unprofessional (unlike that headphone monstrosity*). A sleeveless, low-cut vest works as well. * Apologies to anyone who likes it...

M/M 'mancers get short changed enough in gaming without feeling like their issues are being sidelined by other fans. I'll stick to the BSN for my MEA thoughts Been to the BSN romance thread lately? That gets derailed by all sorts of weird things. XD I've also seen multiple groups have different conversations around each other. I don't think anyone really cares. /hi-five! [edit] Heck, we recently had a purposeful derailment (to move away from another topic) that had people talking about whether Anders was right/wrong. i had EXACTLY that thread in mind when i mention multiple convo strands

I haven been on forums where people tend to freak out if things go too far off topic or if there are too many conversations going on in a thread. Anyway to the thing on Andromeda I wanted to chat about. Something I've been thinking about recently is why I prefer MEA to ME1. I don't prefer it to the trilogy as a whole but I do think it is better than the first game. It's something I've been trying to mull over, particularly since there seems to be such a general rage about MEA and a general love for the first one. And I think it can be summarised like this, MEA is trying to do everything ME1 did and mostly does it better. The crew is better developed than the crew in ME1 Ryder has an actual character ark, something that takes Shepard three games to get Its open world is more interesting and has more impact on the story Some of the decisions you make are actually reflected in the same game, whereas the fallout of all the big decisions in ME1 isn't really felt until ME 2 or ME3. While I'm not going to wallpaper over the animation issues the game had/has, I'm wondering if MEA will become like DA2. A game that there was a huge backlash over, so much so that it caused BioWare to change their plans for the franchise, but a game that in a few years time people will look back on with fondness.

I haven't played MEA so my knowledge of its content is only through watching walkthroughs online. But in terms of looking back on games more favorably after initial reaction, the difference for me between DA2 and MEA is that DA2 managed to accomplish so much in such a short development period. The most vilified aspects (recycled maps, abrupt Act 3, railroading) I think can generally be attributed to lack of development time. And when considering how different DA2 was from other Bioware games at the time, it's pretty impressive. MEA meanwhile had years to get things right. Granted, there were a lot of setbacks and staff turnover which delayed the work. The working theory is that Bio was going to have No Man's Sky style generated worlds rather than set planets and when NMS bombed they had to start from scratch. But the game feels like it's playing very safe, recycling a lot of story and character elements from the MET rather than doing something new. Graphics and open world is done better than ME1, but it's been ten years, I would hope those have improved in that time. Story and characters have seemed to stagnate, from the little I've seen and read. MEA to me feels like Bioware wanted to leverage ME's name and have another space opera without having to develop a completely new IP. But they also wanted a summer blockbuster rather than a story they're passionate about. I've seen a phrase floating around about the game: it feels designed by committee. When people compare MEA to ME1 I don't know if it's a fair comparison. I would think that ten years later a game that takes inspiration from its predecessor would get more things right. But ME1 also gave us the ME setting and the wonder of exploration of this new galaxy. MEA doesn't seem to take that any further; the entire story is about how the MET came to Andromeda. It feels like a set up for future games rather than being a standalone game with an engaging plot. It spends too much time explaining and justifying moving the familiar into a new setting and doesn't do enough with the new setting. Again, I have not played MEA so my impressions of it are purely from watching YT videos of it. It's not the same as actually playing the game, I realize.

Gameplay in Andromeda is definitely better overall. Characters wise, Andromeda does a much better job too because it has the loyalty missions. The problem with ME1 characters is thaf they are mostly info dumps of them talking about their races instead of themselves. The plot in ME1 is overall better because its more eventful, but its in no way one closed game as some keep saying, you learn next to nothing about the reapers except that they are bad, and only basic stuff of the protheans. The problem with Andromeda's plot on the other hand is that it has similar plot points like exaltation that make it feel sometimes a repetition of events. But yeah I agree that the concept was to make a ME1 because I remember way back in the old BSN, a lot of people asked for them to do that type of exploration again. In that sense, Andromeda succeeds on doing that better, but now it has brought in the debate of whether or not they should go back to no exploration. I definitely like Ryder more than Shepard overall as well, an inexperienced character fits better as an intro to keep on growing it than one that has already all his medals and is already a hero. I think depending on what happens with the last patch, Andromeda can definitely be remembered in a better light in the end.

You haven't played the game, so I will try and put forth my argument without spoiling things for you. When I say that the open world in MEA is better than the open world in ME1, I don't mean that it is graphically better. I mean in terms of the experience of them. ME1 worlds were most just colour pallet swaps with the same bases to explore. MEA worlds each have a hub area, story important missions, unique topography & the Kett & Remnant bases aren't as copy & paste. The squadmates & crew are more engaging after one game & one playthrough that the squadmates & crew in ME1. Wrex was cool from the start, but Garrus & Tali didn't get interesting until ME2, Kadian was boring & Ashley and Liara were ok but needed subsequent playthroughs to engage with and additional games. In MEA on the other hand, my Ryder is besties with Vetra & Cora after only one game and I know & understand characters like Jaal, Drack & Lexi in a way that it took three games to do with Wrex & Dr Chakwas. And while I enjoyed the Liara romance in ME1, I didn't really fall in love with her until the Shadowbroker DLC in ME2, were as it took one game (with no DLC) to get me into that place with Peebee. MEA shows the player how big the Helius cluster is and introduces it to them in a similar way that ME1 did with the Milky Way galaxy. I disagree with this. The main story comes to a really satisfying ending (one of Bioware's best) but with enough loose ends for DLC and sequels to take up. They provide enough information about the AI and why many of the characters decided to make the journey while showing far more information about the Angara in the game than ME1 did about other races (most of what we discovered was left to Codex's) It introduces new races & technology while still telling us what the races we are familiar with are up to. It is a balance that I think it strikes well. Any more races introduced in MEA would be weird given the setting.

Like.. Sheps skirt from ME2 may have looked nice on a femme shep, but my charas arent femme and idk.. I just dont feel super comfortable in it when I'm forced to have my charas wer them if that makes sense? if i can choose to wear those then its okay, but if the game says: your chara is defined as female, therefore you get a huggins kit, deep bosom and high heels I cant stop being a bit annoyed. I like the fRyders version of that jacket and I dont get why they haven't just made exactly that for scott too but had to change ift for some weird indiscernible reason? And why they felt the need to have saras shirt be at least 2 numbers too small.. Yeah, straight gamers love boobs, I love boobs too, just not on my self insert, i' trying to forget my own hard enough, thank you very much >_< sometimes I hate my jerkbrain so much.

You definitely have more info on hand than me I feel like I have a good overall sense of the game through watching the walkthroughs but obviously don't have as much context for smaller details like relationships to the characters and changes resulting from different choices. From what I've seen, though, it just feels like a lot of wasted potential, going to a new galaxy and yet so much time is spent worrying about Milky Way rehash rather than feeling like there's real exploration and discovery. Everything has already been discovered by the Nexus, the exiles or the angara by the time Ryder goes anywhere. Edit: and I think I'll back out of this conversation since I'm effectively speaking out of my rear. I admit my dislike of Bioware at the moment is tainting my view of MEA, and I don't plan on buying it in order to investigate further. I am glad people enjoy it and don't want to be negative to them!

Have they always been addressing the notes to Sara and Scott? I've just noticed this now. Who wants to bet that the next MEA game will have fixed first names, we don't even get to choose them?
Because it has to make sense.

Because it has to make sense.Lol nah. The thing with the default name is that it can now be said by other characters in the game instead of beinng called Ryder all the time. The reception to this was positive so maybe next time they will add in a set of names you can be called. They are not going to remove that feature to custom name though, since it doesn't affect anything anyways if you do it.
