I could never get into them at that point. You can probably tell what was my obsession at the time, I was a massive operating systems nerd! I'm still interested in them, even though actually having to use something like MVS for a living would make me lose the will to live.

Hmm, started getting some screen artefacts since installing NAC: anybody else seen this? Usually one or two small squares flicking very fast when close up to things, about the size of text cursors. I don't think it's the graphics card misbehaving as it's been fine so far and HWmonitor says it's only hovering around 55-60⁰C under load which is certainly well within normal temperatures; and the times I have seen one fail it's tended to be much more widespread and persistent than a single flickering square. I know FO4 has some pretty annoying glitches with textures so NAC may have simply unmasked one of them.
CPU is running weirdly hot though, sometimes getting right up to 100⁰ under load which is not good; even after vacuuming it out and checking the airflow through the case is unimpeded it's still going up to 85-90 degrees which it really shouldn't be doing. Although it's slightly OCed (factory job) the stock Intel coolers are usually quite highly rated. Only thing I can think of is that the max fan speed is possibly a bit low at 2,200 RPM so maybe I should figure out how to increase it, though I doubt this is anything to do with the artefacts as a CPU malfunction would be throwing up a lot more corrupted data than just that and would most likely blue screen in short order.
Maybe I should re-upgrade FO4 to 1.10.65 as that's supposed to have fixed some of the long-standing texture bugs, and the "glitch" that prompted my most recent downgrade to 1.10.26 turned out to be a scripting error and nothing to do with the executable.

I knew I'd get the version number wrong! I'm not a terribly well-organised thinker. I've temporarily put it back to 1.10.64 anyway to see how I get on, fortunately it worked okay before, but Bethesda introducing more bugs than they fix is an age-old problem.
Fortunately it's not too much of a headache to switch between versions as I've kept copies of the relevant executables so I just need to install the appropriate version of F4SE and LooksMenu.

I'm really enjoying Fallout New Vegas and loving it just as much as I remembered! I was waiting for "Johnny Guitar" to play on the radio but it took over an hour of game time for it to finally be played, and not even on the radio I was on (Mojave Music Radio). I did discover this total gem though when waiting for it!
I can't say I remembered that one from before...but that might be because it's so short and I was mainly on the Mojave Music Radio just to have the songs playing non-stop without the annoying interruptions by Mr. New Vegas. I think that's the only thing I don't like about Mojave Music Radio, that it's missing a few songs. Other than that though...I think I totally prefer it over Galaxy News Radio and I'm glad I don't have to deal with Three Dog anymore! I've made some pretty good progress so far! I have Boone, Veronica, and Arcade all following me along with a custom companion! It's pretty great...although I'm sure it will make the game too easy if I don't dismiss one or two of them, haha. I'm loving Veronica already though...she's pretty hilarious! I loved Arcade, but honestly, Boone was my husbando...I'm terrible I know. Poor guy has dead wife syndrome and I'm like... Still, if his actually gay friend would have been a romance I would have gone for him instead-but there are no romance options sadly. Manny Vargas -drools- I totally understand! Boone is pretty attractive himself and I love his voice! His voice actor was in The Lion King 2 and that's my preferred Lion King Film. I love Manny as well, he totally deserves a good boyfriend. I also remember being pretty attracted to Major Knight, although that might be because he was the first I was able to flirt with and he seemed willing to go for my Courier, haha. My favorite was easily Dr. Alex Richards though! I love that he was so open about being attracted to men and flirted with you each time. ...It also doesn't hurt that he is hot. I really liked Veronica, even though she was not available! But I was quite happy trekking around with someone who was quite happy to punch things and obsess about dresses. I think overall I personally preferred FO3 but I think my priority is still wandering about exploring and seeing what there is to find, whereas Obsidian does much more tightly-controlled storytelling (which is sometimes a little dry for my tastes, but that's entirely subjective) and I also preferred 3's general atmosphere. I really enjoyed all three of the modern Fallouts, though. Yeah, I think I preferred the way Obsidian did things. In Fallout New Vegas I was so hooked on the game I was able to search every little bit of the map and never felt bored. I am a bit biased though because I just love the atmosphere/setting of New Vegas. They really captured the Nevada countryside landscape so well and it made me feel nostalgic/homesick from my Vegas days, haha. The music selection is also really great and complimented the setting so well. I love listening to Mojave Music Radio. I'm so happy whenever "Johnny Guitar" plays! ...I also just really, really love being able to play as a gay cowboy! It's also nice that this game actually acknowledges your character's sexual orientation instead of assuming you are straight. I was pretty sick of Fallout 3 throwing women at my gay Lone Wanderer...with one even saying she was his girlfriend...Haven't had a single moment/problem like that in New Vegas. It's pretty disappointing that Fallout 4 was actually a step down from that freedom...even though I love the inclusion of proper romances! But yeah I agree...I enjoy all three as well and there are different things I love from each.

I agree with you 100% Andrew Mancer, to think that Bethesda's only give Obsidian 13 months for creating New Vegas on such buggy and outdated engine is just.. Wow Bethesda know better theirs own engine right? But still they took almost 3 years to make FO3, and almost 7 (some say 5 but still) years to make FO4 like Todd said, and the results are less ''impressive'' if you ask me... My wish is that they would let Obsidian make another Fallout game but give them at least 2 years for f**k sake lol.

I liked Fallout 4 better personally, but New Vegas was a great time (when it ran properly-occasionally).

As much as I hate the writing in FO4 (both story and dialogue), I do really love the gameplay in it. I may have actually surpassed Skyrim in terms of hours played in Fallout 4. So yea, have to agree, for all it's faults FO4 is one of my favorite Bethesda games.

I think they could craft a near-perfect Fallout experience and improve on what both New Vegas and 4 have established! It's unfortunate that this will never happen though so we'll have to hope Bethesda continues to improve when they release Fallout 5 in the next 10-20 years. I think I've spent enough time with both to say that I prefer Fallout 4 as well.

I actually found Skyrim to be somewhat lacklustre and charmless. I didn't hate it, not the same way that a lot of people apparently hated Oblivion, but I definitely think it's their weakest game; I'm surprised that it somehow seems to be their most celebrated. Even as someone who generally prefers a mediaeval-type fantasy setting, I enjoyed each of the modern Fallouts a lot more than I did Skyrim and find them pretty much on par with Morrowind and Oblivion. Skyrim was the odd one out for me.

I have certainly preferred the Fallout series over the Elder scrolls for one very important reason-I find the level up system of Elder scrolls very painful. I mean in theory it's fine-just level up by playing the game how you like-BUTTTTTTT, we all know that's horribly inefficient and you will get slaughtered if you level up naturally later in the game. You have to level up those defensive stats and such...and it gets really painful casting spells you don't want to use just to put perks in magic resistance. or making enchanted items you don't need to level up and sale...it's extremely boring-not hard-but boring!

I'm going to echo the sentiment here. If I could pick and choose good stuff from Fallout 4, FONV, and FO3 for the next Fallout game, it would be perfect.
I spend 500 hours in Fallout 4 lol. I really enjoy the gun play which is a huge improvement from FONV.
I am probably a minority here but I prefer factions in FO4 more than FONV. I never have difficulty justifying my choice in FONV: I think NCR is the best out of the four for the future of human civilization. Meanwhile in FO4 I'm still deciding between Railroad or Minutemen on who would be the best for humanity.
On many other RP aspects, I prefer FONV more. It's a shame that FO4 started with a m/f couple which is way too restrictive. I like the quest structure in FONV more as well, as usually there are more than one ways to solve a problem.
But I will also give credit to FO4 when it comes to companions and romance. Going all-bi was definitely a correct decision.

Oh I mean choosing which one I will side with at the end. They can both survive. But choosing with Railroad ending means that the Brotherhood cannot survive. I don't quite like the brotherhood and I think they are an obstruction to human civilization (at least the Maxson's version) . But I am not sure whether I should eliminate them lol.

Yeah, I definitely don't like Maxson's vision. I have mixed feelings about the Brotherhood, they are quite elitist and I'm not convinced that as an organisation their intentions seem all that noble: they seem quite happy for the "lower orders" (i.e. everybody else) to live as a barely stone-age society whilst they hoard all the technology supposedly for humanity's own good; but on the other hand, there's a lot of good people within the organisation who could make a positive difference.
I guess one could make the same observation about the Institute, but I think they're even further down that path what with apparently all the heads of division being indifferent to the concept of ethics. They also seem actively quite evil, being more than happy to "farm" ordinary people to use in human vivisection and other experiments; I suspect that unlike the Brotherhood, the Institute is probably beyond redemption.

(Also i meant to cancel that last post which i do a lot but i didn't realise i actually posted it, whoops.)

It's not that I don't like FO4 at all, I like that you can romance most companions regardless gender, I also like gunplay more in FO4 than in FO3 or FNV, but factions, story and most quests I don't like compared to FNV. I also miss Skills system from both FO3 and FNV. I also like companions in FO4 and FNV, cuz in FO3 they were not that interesting and there was only 2 or 3 of them... P.S. If I remember correctly FO3 did not have any support for LGBT unlike FNV and FO4, so there is hope in the future for more lol That's why I'm excited for FNV on FO4 engine project (and also Fallout Cascadia), we can have the best from both words I just wish that Bethesda would allow Obsidian to do another spin-off to this series, with at least 2 years for development time and not only 13 months

FO3 didn't have any sort of player relationships though, did it? Unless I've just forgotten, I admit I don't have an awesome memory. There were gay couples, such the very Wade & Herren style armourers at Rivet City, for example, and the two ghoul ladies at the sanctuary in the museum. For NV's graphics I admit I did a not-very-authentic engreenification of the Mojave: I like green!
