If the "Choice Of" games count, I read a lot. But it's been too long since I've read a proper book. I think the last book I read was one of the Resident Evil game/movie adaptions about two years ago. I'm not sure why, but I suddenly feel the need to get back into reading proper books again. I've been looking into some LGBT fantasy novels and I found a few that seem interesting! The thought of reading them is actually pretty exciting! I'm definitely going to buy a few when I have some extra cash. It'll be a nice break from gaming and show binging. I'm definitely going to buy Maurice by E.M. Forster though! @nightscrawl The House At Lobster Cove definitely sounds like my type of book! Thanks for the recommendation!

So I was reading a review for a new Netflix show based on a novel, Altered Carbon. I came across this comment: Apparently that is A Land Fit for Heroes series, with the first one being The Steel Remains. Not something I would read as excessive nudity and sex gets old after a while -- even the description of the show seemed tiresome, and I like the main actor a lot and wouldn't mind seeing him naked -- but thought I'd share.

@nightscrawl Thanks for another recommendation! It's definitely on my list as well. ...The main character is named Gil...

Was going through some old stuff and found a newspaper article about this guy. Check out the Wikipedia page for Neil S. Plakcy, who I'm pretty sure is a gay man. There are too many things to list here.

I just started reading The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov; I'm liking it so far. Orbit just revealed that the next Expanse novel will be titled Tiamat's Wrath, and that it'll be coming out December 2018. Given the stuff that happened in the last book, that's one hell of an ominous title - Tiamat is a Babylonian goddess symbolizing the chaos of primordial creation.

So, I'm planning to make use of my access to multiple libraries to do some reading this summer, and I'm having a difficult time trying to find a book with a gay main character that a) isn't about them being gay b) is good in its own right and c) isn't grimdark and/or depressing. Any suggestions?

My copy of The Caves of Steel and the other robot novels is big and not very portable, so for now I've switched gears to Red Mars - another book that's been on my to-read list for a long time.
Right now I'm really enjoying it; I'm a sucker for detail-laden descriptions of colonies on other planets, and Red Mars is chock full of them. I've heard that the Mars Trilogy books rack up a pretty high body count, but so far only one person's died and I'm just under halfway through. So now I'm just anxiously waiting for the dominoes to fall; trouble's clearly brewing, and I'm not looking forward to the nigh-inevitable violent confrontations on the horizon.

I first read this long ago. It was the first time I'd ever seen a gay character as the protagonist. The trilogy came out in 1989-1990, and I most likely read it before I came out (which was in 1992), and something that helped me come to terms with my feelings. Yes, people, I fully came to terms with who I am, internally and externally, 26 years ago.
