I will go first (unless someone else does!) 1. Favorite series is definitely Deep Space Nine. I grew up watching Next Generation, and sure, I loved Picard, Troi, and Data, but I was a teenager during DS9, and I came of age admiring Captain Benjamin Sisko and ESPECIALLY Lieutenant Jadzia Dax. Dax was a very special character for me; she was basically genderless and just enjoying her time in whatever body she happened to be in. "I forgot how long it takes to get ready as a woman!" she says at one point. And Sisko, the toughest, baddest captain, a very complicated man, warm and loving towards his family and beloved friends, stern when he's crossed and standing up for what's right, also a very open-minded man. Of course I loved all the other characters, especially Garak... can't beat Garak, really, or his totally canonical crush on Bashir. I loved how the space station was like a family; it was very different from the episodic nature of the previous series. 2. Favorite captain though is probably Katherine Janeway. The actor complaiend that Janeway was inconsistent; they wanted her to be motherly and sweet for the first few seasons, but she rebelled and chose to play her as tougher towards the end. I felt Janeway was always both of those things and more. Of course it was thrilling to see a female captain. But her gender played no role in who she was as a person and as a captain. She had the toughest job out of any of the captains, too. 3. Favorite character is without a doubt Tuvok. Vulcans are my favorite race in the franchise, but Tuvok is more than just a stereotypical Vulcan; he's a true and loving friend, as well as a loving father and husband, loyal to his family to the end. He has difficulty making friends with the rest of the crew; people tend to be put off by his serious nature, and though he says this doesn't bother him (since, you know, feelings and all that), I think he is displeased with he realizes people don't like or appreciate him or his point of view. I think of him as my true space husband, forever and ever; if I could find a guy like Tuvok it would be the bestest, plus we'd only have to have sex once every seven years! I could handle that

Oh oh oh...
Favorite series of course Voyager! Cap. Janeway and character Jadzia Dax!
Still my favorite scene was from Star Trek Enterprise from the evil AU. Mostly because it reveals that even if the universe stand for equality and human advancement, these series are still full of current human bias and sometimes even old ones like TNG or Voyager do a better job at standing for that ideal.

Favorite Captain: Janeway and I love her ship!
Favorite Character: Elim Garak, my favorite spy and tailor on DS9. I like so many characters, as my dad raised me as a Trekkie from very early on.
Favorite series: Voyager, DS9, TNG (not a lot of the early stuff though), Enterprise, then Original Series if going by ranking.
Favorite movie: Voyage Home! I love whales. As for the new timeline Treks, I only like Beyond and that's just barely on the radar.

If I were to start watching Star Trek, what should I start off with? Honestly, TNG is a good starting point if you can't stomach Original Series cheese.

If I were to start watching Star Trek, what should I start off with? Shit. The question to end all questions... I want to say Next Generation. Make sure it's the remastered version and not the original they show on BBC America or whatever. (So Netflix or Amazon it). Reason I say TNG instead of DS9 is because there are characters (especially one main character) that return from TNG to appear or star on DS9, and it's better if you know who they are and where they come from. But if you find yourself getting bored with the "space phenomenon of the week" in TNG, definitely start with DS9. It is totally a stand alone show where humans (and their allies) are the benevolent military presence on a space station orbiting a planet whose locals aren't too happy about it. Cue the drama.

If I were to start watching Star Trek, what should I start off with? I would say Star Trek: TNG than Voyager or DS9, although the first season of TNG is super boring and I did start with Voyager myself. Humm maybe see what Cap you find more interesting and start there? that can work too.

Yes, DS9 is great once you get to know the situations. It is very heavy on arcs because of the Dominion War, so it isn't every Fan's cup of tea. My bf, who is a serious Trekkie, dislikes it because of the Dominion War spanning multiple seasons because he is a freak of the week type television show watcher.

That DS9 arc about Paradise Lost... Oh boy, that triggers my bf so hard. I have to watch it in private with headphones and the door locked.

I think of him as my true space husband, forever and ever; if I could find a guy like Tuvok it would be the bestest, plus we'd only have to have sex once every seven years! I could handle that oh wow, i really love your descriptions. i feel about Janeway the same way, and i much prefer her when she gets shit done, gets sassy and uncompromising but has always a warm side for those she deems worthy. if i would be forced to choose a role model i think it would be her- disciplined, idealistic fighter and leader, has emotions but does not dwell etc. it's a bit weird, with men their gender is not in question, they can be leaders, but with women everything gets scrutinized doubly. i'm happy how many times voyager proved this is nonsense and i'm a bit appalled to see how many times women there lead serious conversations about science and nature of existence, and compare it to contemporary television. yes, a show from 97 is still more progressive than mainstream today even in this basic area as gender. ugh
