Okay, my comments as I watch the episode...
Whoa, forgot about male officer in skirts!
Fuck yeah, Star Trek! Iirc, it lasts for five episodes before they drop it (for women, too). Really amusing but COOL effort on their part.
Yes, agreed, forgot Riker wasn't part of the crew initially o.o
Picard: How can you not know "snoop" ya stupid android?
Data: Maybe cause I wasn't programmed to be a dick.
Troi: Burn!
And wow, we get some of Troi's "I'm sensing something..." in the very first episode!
Worf is looking very well-coifed and also not as gruff as usual. Michael Dorn hadn't figured the character out yet I guess.
This verbal jockeying back and forth between Q and Picard just makes me miss Sisko. Ahem, those who've seen DS9 know what I mean
Picard instructs Data to "use print out only" I guess for security reasons. I'm not sure why this amuses me.
That super slow and awkward elevator in the engine room lmao...
Okay. I just paused it and went from streaming on Netflix to streaming on Amazon. Amazon is the remastered version and looks MUCH BETTER than the original on Netflix. So, if you have the opportunity, I suggest watching on Amazon.
Worf piloting is... weird lol
Everyone freaking out when Picard gives the command to separate the saucer. Like, omg! HE DIDN'T!
Ahh a bit of Worf's "I'm a Klingon!" and Picard's "You're a Starfleet officer." I'm sure THAT won't come up again.
MILES!!
Didn't realize he was in episode 1.
OMG I can only imagine how jenked up the saucer separation animation must look in the original hahaha
How great is it that the four main characters in this episode are the captain (an old white guy, okay), two WOMEN (one a security officer!) and an android.
That said, Tasha Yar's so dumb lol
This is such a bad first episode lol Patrick Stewart was a peach for staying on. He carries this episode.
O'Brien's face when they reappear on the bridge lol No one tells him what just happened. I'm seeing the beginnings of the entire Miles O'Brien storyline, which mostly consist of O'Brien always feeling like everyone hates him.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Yes beardless Riker is horrifying
I have no recollection of this part, with Riker and the long-haired dude. Who is he talking to? Hmmm.
Wesley's so cute.
Ahh, Geordi. You little pervert. Sorry, I hate Geordi. Those who haven't watched will see why eventually. Little creeper.
This conversation between Riker and Picard is interesting. First you have Riker's insistance on protecting the life of the captain. This is meant, I think, to show different philosophies between the two men; Riker thinks a captain should not risk themself for the mission, whereas Picard thinks risking yourself for the mission is part of being captain. There's no right answer, according to the show. It just shows us how each man thinks.
The second part has Picard admitting he doesn't feel comfortable around children. The way he says it makes it seem like he's talking about cockroaches and not, you know, kids. This is bizarre. But I think it might be reflecting contemporary (at the time) ideas regarding men and children; women were primary caregivers, not men; women were thought to be more naturally suited to interacting with children; men who did so emasculated themselves. OR is this a way to show that Picard is simply not a sociable person in general? That is the aloof, removed, scholarly captain? Not sure.
WTF where did this admiral dude come from.
And this soothing Saturday Afternoon Special music. WTF WTF.
BWAHAHAHAH The music that plays when Riker sees Troi LOL
Riker: *heart eyes*
Troi: *heart eyes*
Picard: Have you guys met before?
Riker: *heart eyes* uh yeah
Picard: Awesome! Okay see you bros later
Oblivious Picard is best Picard.
Friendly Lady Officer helping Riker find Data sure likes what she saw lmao
"Damn, check dat ass out!"The wall of the ship is an ipad lmao
This entire holosuite sequence with Riker, Data, and Wesley is WEIRD.
Picard: *stares at soaking wet Wesley like he's a pile of dog turds* And so begins Picard inexplicably being a dick to an innocent teenager for however many seasons.
I just realized this is two episodes in one. So the disconnect makes a little more sense. Still, episode 2 is really poorly put together. There are like 18 different things going on at once.
Okay I've zoned out for like the last ten minutes or so lol
Oh, Q's back. Bleh.
Picard: "I'll attend to my duty."
Riker: "To the bitter end, then?"
Picard: "I see nothing so bitter about it."
Good line, huh.
Picard: "...attacking those who had captured...
captured its mate."
Riker and Troi: *look at each other with heart eyes*
Picard: *still oblivious*
One jellyfish is blue, one is pink. Subtle, lol
The first use of "Number 1"!
ENGAGE!!!
And that's that
