I'll be honest. I love his movies. Not being an established star trek fan will probably help if he makes it totally off the wall lol. I like Star Trek for what it is, and i like Tarantino's movies for what they are. But if you mix them together? No no no no no...

As a straight guy I'm not sure I have much to contribute in terms of the "bury your gays" side of the argument, other than to say that I sympathise and hope that the situation is reversed, but I will say the I don't think that Discovery will ever get to full-on Game of Thrones levels of Machiavellian murders and important characters dying all over the place. Ash is a special case in that it's pretty clear now that he's not actually the original human Ash, and is almost certainly some sort of altered Voq with an Ash personality imprinted over the top. The brutality of (literal) backstabbing in the Terran Empire is still very clearly at odds with how the Federation does things.

Oh is the Voq theory still going strong? It is suspicious how Voq has totally disappeared, yes.

Oh is the Voq theory still going strong? It is suspicious how Voq has totally disappeared, yes. Well he's had his bones reduced, Culber wasn't sure what his real personality was, added to L'Rell clearly trying to undo whatever was surpressing the hidden personality by making him recite the Klingon verse that didn't work... It seems more and more likely that the theory was correct. If not, then at least he's some sort of Klingon sleeper agent.

I was actually able to watch this one as I had dinner with friends. I'm liking the show, from the bit I saw. The first half of the pilot is the only other one I've seen, as that was on TV. That they went into the mirror universe is super fun, and I'd look forward to seeing more of that if I were going to be watching. Since I'm a TOS fan, bringing these touches, like the pain booth, is fun. I know DIS is pretty serious, but it would have been amusing if there were a goatee joke somewhere . The red-haired (now blonde!) talkative chick is adorable. The friends I had dinner with is actually an older gay couple and I accidentally spoiled Culber's death due to miscommunication, so we just sat and watched it. They didn't seem too phased by it? Certainly not like you all. It's interesting to see the different reactions. Why does Lorca have what look to be fortune cookies on his desk? Was that explained or just set decoration?
