Not sure how many people here read comics but I'd love to start a discussion around them. With Marvel & DC set to make Superhero films until the end of the world, the comics they came from seem more relevant to me. Particularly since the comics tend to be more diverse and inclusive than the films. DC & Marvel have more queer & minority characters than ever before (that is of course until Marvel were assholes about diversity and started to roll things back). There is also a lot of very good comic publishers that aren't the big two, that are publishing some really great comics in lots of different genres, not just Super Heros. I thought I'd kick off by listing what I'm reading at the moment and why. Everything here is ongoing and something I'd recommend, although I tend to wait for trades and buy them rather than individual issues. Wonder Woman Rebirth.Greg Rucka is one of the great Wonder Woman writers and this run focus on him trying to standardise her origin without ignoring all the crazy origins created by previous writers. It is partially focused on explaining her weird New 52 origin but don't worry if you haven't read that. The art is great and it's full of mystery and Diana just being amazing; plus this Detective Comics Rebirth
Because Batwoman is amazing and everyone should read everything that Batwoman is in. Harley Quinn Rebirth
This is hit and miss but it's fun, which some comics forget to be sometimes. Cleanroom
Gail Simone writing weird conspiracy body horror, this is really all you need to know. It's funny, gross and horrifying. Sunstone
This just finished, but the author, Stjepan Šejić is writing more series based on the same characters. It's all on Deviantart if you want to check it out but to summarise it is a story about two women who meet online and start a BDM relationship. It's amazing, sexy, super fun and the art is fabulous. There is some more but I don't want to make a super long OP. So what are you reading at the moment?

I don't read many comics. I read the DA comics including the current Knight Errant. I used to read the Buffy and Angel comics but ended up burnt out when they kept going without an end in sight.
Has anyone read any of the new Baldur's Gate comics with Minsc in them? I read the first series and it was so so, started the Ravenloft second series and just got bored.
Cleanroom looks creepy but interesting!

I only just got into comics! I'm really enjoying anything to do with the batfam - especially nightwing and batwoman. I also really like the Star Wars comics - and I love Doctor Aphra, she's my favourite space wooloowoo

If you enjoyed it, it's written by Greg Rucka who is doing the current run of Wonder Woman comics and wrote one of the greatest comics of all time Gotham Central. Some comic fans follow characters or publishers but I've always found it more rewarding to find writers and artists I like and just pick up their work regardless of what characters they are writing or what publisher they are working for. It's meant I've ended up reading some really great stuff that I would've missed if I'd just stuck to major publishers. cant second sunstone enough.. that comic is just incredible adorable It's so adorable and something I just stumbled across a few years ago. Can't wait for more of Mercy. I only just got into comics! I'm really enjoying anything to do with the batfam - especially nightwing and batwoman. If you've not read it yet Batwoman: Elegy is a must read.

The first two comics were good, but as soon as it became rehashing what we had already done in DAI I wondered what the point of the series was. It's a shame because I've heard a lot of good things about Rucka and it seems like he's a fan of DA and wanted to do the comic. But it just...never really went anywhere, IMO, and neither of the main characters had a lot of personality besides broody non-elf Tevinter slave and sarcastic noble who ran away from her life.

That is an understandable point. I read the whole thing as a trade so I got the story in one go (which does make a difference for comics) and I really enjoyed it. I like how the comic intersected with DA:I, as most of the time books & comics take place before or after the game, were as this one happens during the game's timeframe. I also liked how it expanded what we knew about Charter and gave a sense that throughout DA:I the Inquisition really was fighting demons & helping people. I'd still recommend Rucka though, even if you weren't into Magekiller, he has written some great stories.

My opinion on Magekiller will probably also change once/if there are further developments with those characters in DA4 or other media. If the purpose of Magekiller and Knight Errant is to build up the idea of the "disbanded" Inquisition recruiting new agents against Solas and it's a relevant point in DA4 I might enjoy the comics more. Although I believe that a comic series should be able to stand on its own without requiring supplementary media to make complete sense. It's like others have said about the Marvel Cinematic Universe: the films are becoming so intertwined that the audience can't just watch one without watching all of the others, or a lot of it doesn't make sense. I get this feeling from the DA extended universe sometimes now, with The Masked Empire and Asunder heavily playing into DAI and potentially these comics leading up to DA4. I can't complain, though, as I'd rather have any DA material while we wait for DA4.

My taste in comics is pretty mainstream. At the moment I'm reading Mighty Thor, Saga, The Wicked + The Divine, Fables and Midnighter and Apollo. As soon as one of this series ends I want to pick up Vision.
I also read Murena and Sillage, but I don't know if these are known outside of Europe. Then there's quite a few manga series I'm following, though not as many as there used to be. And an online comic, Alex Woolfson's The Young Protectors.

I tend to pick up the graphic novels because finding each comic over here is almost impossible . I just grabbed a graphic Novel of Green Arrow's Rebirth storyline and I blame Injustice2 for that. Im very curious to grab that new dragon age comic though. From Bioware my favorite is probably the Illusive Man one, it was a story I was very curious about. I also have the graphic novel prequel of ME2 with Liara. I still need the Aria one on my collection though, is it good? I love Aria and love Omega DLC just because more Aria lol. From Marvel I have the Hawkeye from 2012-2015 and I liked it for being quite different. Yes I have an obsession with archers lol. I wish I had more time to really get into more comics though cuz I like many universes and stuff from it.

I'm currently reading Transformers:More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light.
The storytelling in the current run is really good, but then I like Roberts' style - the best so far imho, and the art's not to shabby. I used to find Alex Milne's art too busy, but he's toned it down a lot the last few years.

I started reading IDW's take on the Transformers last year. I was immediately captivated by the stories although I will admit that the start of the 'Hasbroverse' has dampened my interest somewhat.

I'm currently reading Transformeres Lost Light and Till All Are One as well (probably obvious considering my avatar choice ). I mostly started reading Transformers because I've caught somewhere, they were starting to include more female coded bots and lgbt pairings. Been reading the idw comics (mtmte is my fav) for years now and I still love them, even though it also has it's issues sometimes. Right now I'm also reading Saga, but I am starting to lose interest in it. The thing that really caught my eye was the unapologetic way the comic was telling it's modern-fantasy story (y'know, like showing vaginas and naked people and all kinds of nsfw things). I have the special hardcover version of the book, but I don't really feel like buying the second collection yet. I was also reading Rat Queens, Wicked and the Divine and Lazarus for a while, but all of them started to bore me unfortunately. Maybe I will pick them up someday again.

I used to be a big Marvel fan (i mean X-Men really), but i've stopped buying them. Killing off Logan kinda sealed the deal for me. I mean i'm totally for Laura taking up the Wolverine name, but you don't need to kill off the old one!

I'm painfully behind on some of the IDW verse (I'm poor lol). They have thier misses to be sure, anything to do with Bayverse is definitely on my miss list. I think I skipped the majority of ongoing as I really didn't like it except some early ones and the few written by Roberts. MTMTE was the only thing that brought me back, since I'd pretty much stopped reading at the end of All Hail Megatron. I like that James Roberts comes to it as a long time fan. I've still got a copy of the old fanfic 'Eugenesis' he wrote tucked away on my PC, which is always good for a read when I want my heart torn out.

I love MTMTE as well, it is by far the best of what IDW has created as far as I'm concerned. The 'Hasbroverse' has caused many of Hasbro's franchises to be pushed into the Transformers comics though. GI Joe is now often featured in the new Optimus Prime series. As I'm not particularly a fan of anything except Transformers I'm just slightly annoyed by that haha. That and the entire idea of Optimus Prime role in a post-war universe seems difficult to reconcile. Most of all his attempt and seemingly success in annexing and now colonizing Earth on semi-religious grounds has been entirely botched in my opinion. The move was made partly out of renewed resolve and desperation on Prime's part to prevent another invasion of the kind that happened in All Hail Megatron. It just never goes anywhere imo.

That gay content in MTMTE though my dudes {Spoiler} Good shit 👌 👌 I am surprised Transformers has turned out to be more inclusive than Mass Effect lmao If i'm being honest I couldn't give a rat's ass about 85% of the Optimus centred stories anymore. I am really tired of him (rofl) That's why I loved MTME so much, since it was a cast of mostly unexplored characters. I have the first few volumes of Saga as well. I like the art and setting well enough, but I'm not really interested in the downward spiral of family dysfunction. I used to be a big Marvel fan (i mean X-Men really), but i've stopped buying them. Killing off Logan kinda sealed the deal for me. I mean i'm totally for Laura taking up the Wolverine name, but you don't need to kill off the old one! Yes I feel the same. I like the universe and the potential lore that could come out Saga. I like the fantasy-sci fi setting, humor and the exaggeration, but the family drama is just so... Boring. It's been done a thousand times and I don't really see how Saga's approach is any more special or unique than any other story about dysfunction families. I really hope it will pick up more.

The whole Chromedome and Rewind...first comic to make me cry. I have shipped old G1 Moonracer and Elita-1 for as long as I can remember. Whilst that old ship of mine has not been validated, I feel a certain satisfaction at having my giant gay robots when too many fanboys were arguing they couldn't be gay because it 'didn't make sense'. Really? A race almost entirely comprised of male identifying individuals, who judging by the occasional hook-up with humans, clearly can develop romantic feelings but not for each other? lol I'm glad that for the most part, inclusion of lbgt themes has been accepted pretty well. At least most of what I saw anyway. I loved the cast of relative unknowns and lesser used characters. Last Stand of the Wreckers did that for me too. A handful of unimportant characters and they made me care about them. That whole thing was so painful. It's also a welcome sight to see the inclusion of more female characters in the comics.

Do webcomics count for this? Or are you talking hard copy comics only?

Do webcomics count for this? Or are you talking hard copy comics only? I'd say it's best to place webcomics here as well, at least for now. If the comics thread blows up from discussing way too many topics we could always expand into several threads later.
