Harry Potter RPG looks great, so glad Emma Watson travelled through time with a time-turner and wrote the books! lol companions? animal companions? CC? gay romances?

it would be a big fuck you to Rowling if the game let trans players make trans characters, they just need to let the players choose voice, body type and pronouns independently. But sadly I'm not even expecting gay rep at all. Hope Rowling did not put her filthy hands into this game.

That looks like a fun game! I hope it will be inclusive and such. I do love Harry Potter despite J.K. Clownbish

Yeah, thing is that buying it new still puts money in her pockets, allows her a platform. And given that she is now using that platform to actively put out work that is dangerous and life-threatening to non-cisgendered people...
As much as this interests me as someone who considers the Harry Potter series formative... Between the transphobia and the antisemitism that I can not ignore any longer, AT BEST, I could only ever buy this second hand. So as far as I care, this doesn't exist.
A shame, because I want to be excited for it. But... I can't support letting my money go to her.

Harry potter was my first obsession and before, the rpg set in that universe would have been a dream come true for me, but now after all jkr said and done, no way I'm buying smth that in any way goes in her pocket. And also considering the era this game is set in, I doubt it would have any inclusivity cause "historically, LGBT and other minorities didn't exist back then".

Yeah if this game had come out like four years ago I might have been willing to just ignore She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s bad qualities like having a pen name alter ego named after the inventor of conversion therapy (we ignored it cause we gave her the benefit of the doubt), her weird anti Semitic world building, and her weird handling of Dumbledore and Grindewald in the Fantastic Beast stuff.
But her vindictiveness, blatant transphobia and aligning with far right bigots has poisoned the franchise to me. Also I don’t wanna deal with the culture war dudebros will inevitably have over the game if people protest it or if the game devs try to be inclusive.
it is really painful though and I can understand LGBTQ people who try to reclaim the franchise in their own small way by playing something from their childhood that was dear to them. Nostalgia comas are sometimes important but this one isn’t for me.

As someone who lives in a red state I may just have a sadly more practical look on things, but I 100% can't just avoid every business that supports terrible ideals. I'd probably be dead or have to move or something. So, for me it just is a simple fact that I have to make the most of bad situations. So for me if the game is good and isn't actively anti-lgbt I will probably want it. Do I think J.K. Rowling will get money from my purchase? Sure-but will it affect the grand scheme of things if I do or don't either way? No. The only person that will be affected ultimately by my choice is me.
I support anyone who decides they don't want to play the game however, but I hope we won't take it personal if anyone does decide to play it. (lord Knows I don't judge the people here that play Witcher-the game that HAS been actively and aggressivly homophobic.)

I mean the third one is extremely hetero but not homophobic as far I know

I mean the third one is extremely hetero but not homophobic as far I know As far as I know it's the earlier games that had the in game homophobia, but the company itself has since the third game said many transphobic things-on par or worse than J.K. Rowling. So I really don't see them as being any better personally. It's just a matter of what is unacceptable to the individual.

I'm very torn over Hogwarts Legacy because on the one hand I find what Rowling has become to be irresponsible and despicable, but in the other hand HP is something that's still very dear to me and was the thing that sparked a life long interest in reading for me.
So the idea of getting to play an RPG in that world is very moving to me, but on the other hand I don't want to be a hypocrite because I know it hurt me a lot to see people say they supported me but then continued to defend things like Chikfila and the Ender's Game movie.
So ultimately, I think I'll try to keep myself from getting the game at release and see how things shake out. If it's a quality game that isn't actively anti-queer, I probably won't be able to resist, but I think I'll donate the games price to a trans charity to try to balance the scales a bit.

I just need them to make some kind of statement saying they dont share the bigoted views of Rowling, donate money to trans charity would be super cool indeed and trans rep as I said in the CC.
It's a grey area that's for sure, because even if you want to support the developers and not her, you are going to support her no matter what cause royalties. it just sucks.
About being set in the 1800s I wouldnt be worried about that, even though queerness is inexistent in the books and movies, the game can play with that as blank slate since magic world is different from muggle world, I can totally see wizards and witches viewing bigoted muggle views as something barbaric. Same with POC people.

It’s also kind of similar to the HP Lovecraft situation. There was a large media enabled ‘canceling’ of Lovecraft in the PR run up to the series Lovecraft Country. Lovecraft was painted as an irredeemable racist, his socialist, anti capitalist messages transformed into pro Capitalist propaganda, and the racism/transphobia in the show was never talked about (there is a Two Spirit person that is pretty... bad for a self proclaimed “woke” show, so once again native/trans issues get thrown under the bus). Meanwhile the same media corporations barely talk about She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and her not only bigotry but platforming of dangerous far right extremists. The people who have the power to hold She Who Must Not Be Named accountable or to task or put pressure on her have been reluctant because unlike a person from decades ago who is dead, she has the potential to make loads of new high quality addictive Casheesh.
And as far as the Witcher games go, they have been either actively homophobic (2) or complicated (3) but the thing is the book franchise is actually fairly progressive and far less problematic for LGBTQ people and way more feminist than the games. So, while I’ve never played the games (1 and 2 look unplayable and bad), I came to gradually support women and LGBTQ people who like the games and hope CDPR can be better. The CDPR supremacists on BSN can fall in a hole and never escape, though, because they are actively hostile to the idea that CDPR injected problematic ideas into the games.
Will me not buying the new game any time soon do anything to She Who Must Not Be Named? No. Definitely should not shame people simply buying a game for fun in this bleak world. But definitely should talk to the game devs, and talk about these things, and if the games do something poorly they should not be ignored.
No one has the answers in these situations and even if say everyone protested the game and it sold horribly, She Who Must Not Be Named would still get other business opportunities. I think the best we can hope for, like Nick said above, is that the game devs actively try to go against her hatefulness.

I have seen lots of people asking the devs to acknowledge the situation, I really hope they listen!
I think Dragon Ball comes to my mind as one guilty pleasure of mine where nostalgia has a big role of why I'm still consuming Toriyama's products when his franchise and himself has proven to be really sexist, homophobic and racist in the past, even though now with Whis, Kale and Caulifla who are pretty much girlfriends things got "better" but still lots of room to improve.
Would you guys feel comfortable if a thread of this game is created?

Would you guys feel comfortable if a thread of this game is created? Of course! Once the info/hype train gets started why not have a harry potter thread. Though even early I guess we could talk about the world lore since there's a lot of that already established.

Huh. I thought that zenimax is such a giant that this would not be possible. It's like MS buying EA...
Edit: Wait, they now own both Beth and Obsidian. A new Fallout by Obsidian is actually possible now!
