On a side note, I appreciated all the scenes with Carrie Fisher's daughter.

Welp, this was the first Star Wars movie I've enjoyed in a long time. Damn, Kylo Ren going full manipulative bastard by helpfully reminding Rey that she's nothing... except to him. Just him. She doesn't get to define herself. Banking on the idea that he can convince her she's so shit that her worth hinges on joining him. Silly boy thinks everyone's as emotionally immature and easily manipulated as he is.

Well, I just got back from seeing it with my family, and...holy crap, I think it's definitely my favorite of the three most recent films. Definitely worth seeing in the theater.
Edit: Having given it some thought, I'm revising that statement; of the three, I think Rogue One holds up best under scrutiny. I still personally think TLJ was a thoroughly enjoyable film, though.

I love the dynamic between the two honestly and I look forward to seeing how it turns out in IX.

my face when the audience clapped after tlj went to credits I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn't amazing. Not... like, clap-worthy. The plot threads half the time amounted to nothing and new characters were practically shoehorned in when we barely got anything about the existing characters to begin with. Thankfully, Kylo got some backstory explained, and we got some amount of closure with Luke, but what's with Snoke? Why's he doing what he's doing? How did he get to power? How did he manage to "turn Kylo's heart" ? Why did Kylo want to leave it all behind with Rey only to decide to reclaim Snoke's place like a minute later? What character development did Rey get from her time with Luke? Why did Luke decide on a whim to get mad at Rey for being tempted by darkness when she knows fuck-all about force shit in the first place because he hadn't taught her that shit yet? How is Chewie dealing with Han's death from the first movie? What's Phasma been doing this whole time between movie 1 and 2? What is Hux doing about Kylo's actions in the last 1/4 of the movie? They don't even need to answer all these questions, just like... two... please...
I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but come on. At least it was enjoyable, though, which is a lot than I can say about some superhero films. Having thought about it a bit more, I'm feeling reminded of my reaction to Mass Effect 3. I have a lot of issues with ME3's story, but somehow I still consider it to be my favorite installment in the trilogy. Similarly, I have a long laundry list of gripes with TLJ, likely longer than my list for The Force Awakens and Rogue One, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

It's twisted and hopeful and sad and complementary all at once, which is fun.

Saw Last Jedi last night and really enjoyed it - it might just be my favourite Star Wars film. I loved the two main themes of learning from failure (both Luke & Poe's storylines) and that the rebellion is for everyone not just the super special Skywalkers. (Rey's parents, Rose & the focus on recurring characters whose names you don't know)
I'm so pleased Rey's parents were just assholes, in the films it seems like anyone special is either a Skywalker or connected to them in someway so I loved that she is just some rando.
I also loved that Rey went and had a look at the dark side and then actively rejected it.I've always felt that a major weakness of the Jedi was the fact that they instill fear of the darkside into their recruits, which leaves them vulnerable to it, you can't fight what you don't understand but Rey goes right down there, checks it out and rejects it.
Loved Grumpy oldman Luke
Thought it was funny when Snoke told Kylo that killing Rey would complete his training, when any good Sith Apprentice knows the only way to complete their training is to kill their master.
The fight scenes were fantastic, I'm so glad that they have gone back to the slower fighting style from the original trilogy, it really adds weight to the fights.
Rose is a very good new character.
THe dynamic between Rey & Kylo is fantastic.
I think it is super funny that some people don't think the Finn & Rose storyline went anywhere, the whole point of it was failure. They, along with Peo go behind Holdo's back to try and be Heroes and essentially fuck everything up and get a lot of people killed. It is a parallel to Luke's failure.
My biggest gripe is that Leia didn't die. I had hoped that she had been scripted to die in Last Jedi, so we didn't have to suffer through whatever CGI/offscreen mess they come up with to kill her off in the next one. Carrie Fisher deserved to end on a high and she was amazing in Last Jedi.

Im so glad to see a lot of love for last Jedi here, everywhere else I go is negative stuff. I loved it a ton the film. Currently my 2nd favorite star wars but a 2nd watch could change that. Poe Dameron is my husband, my leader, my dad, my everything.

I just watched The Last Jedi for the fourth time because my brother hadn't seen it yet and he wanted someone to go with. I was reminded that Yoda is a cheeky motherfucking troll: Yoda to Luke as he thinks the Jedi texts have been destroyed by fire: "There is nothing in those texts that she does not carry with her." (or something close to that that is more Yoda-ish.)
End of film reveal: She was literally carrying the texts with her.

One of the things I really like about Rey is that she has reverence for the knowledge of the past but is also not afraid to do her own thing.
She wanted Luke to train her & to read the old texts BUT she wasn't afraid to literally swim down to the darkside, check it out and ultimately reject it, something the old Jedi Order would've probably punished her for or thought her a lost cause and stopped her training. (I have so many issues with the Jedi, the literally caused their own downfall by failing to understand basic psychology)
I'm excited to see how Rey uses the old Jedi teachings and her experiences to shape the next generation of Jedi ( or whatever she calls them)

So thoughts on the han solo spinoff? Disney is preparing for failure, apparently Han can't act, not interested. Now the Obi Wan movie on the other hand...if Ewan is in, I'm in.

So thoughts on the han solo spinoff? I'm getting very tired of origin stories. Particularly when they are for characters that we already know. I don't care what Han Solo's real name is or what happened to him when he was younger, it's like his character ark is happening in the wrong order.

So Star Wars Rebels Ending, not sure if it has been discussed on any other thread but: They low key made Zeb and Kallus relationship canon aaaaaahhhhh, I had so many tears of joy. Zeb took Kallus to meet the rest of his people still alive, like if he was presenting his boyfriend to his parents and then decided to stay with Zeb there on this planet with him. The way it plays out visually and taking into account the other moments from the episode and that zeb and kallus episode back on season 2, there's no way it's not the intention. They just can't literally have them kiss.
