I'm also a huge fan of 80's slasher flicks. I can't even begin to count the number of times that I've seen all of the Friday the 13th series (Parts 1-5 are the best), Nightmare on Elm Street series (Parts 1, 3, & 4 are the best, with a special totally unrelated gay-stravaganza shout out to part 2 and it's blatant homoeroticism), Halloween (Part 1 is the best slasher movie of all time), etc. Nightmare on Elm Street 2 is the absolute gayest "not gay" movie ever made!! Amazing how films had to rely solely on subtext in those days, but it makes for some fun analyzing. The star (Mark Patton, who is gay) has been working on a documentary about it that I'm dying to see. I've got a bunch of friends playing F13 and they're all loving it, technical issues aside. I gotta jump on it before everyone loses interest!

I never seen that cult classic but I liked that documentary.

I like horror as a genre. I have a close friend that LOVES horror movies and I'm down to binge watch almost anything if someone wants to watch with me and will put up with me chattering all through it, so we watch basically everything Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime have to offer in the horror genre tabs. lol I saw Crimson mention American Horror Story, it's one of my favorite shows. I agree it's suffered quite a bit in the later seasons, although I thought Roanoke was a bit of a step up from the previous couple. I really didn't like Hotel. It was just really dumb. Murder House and Asylum were definitely the best seasons, imo.

I really miss Jessica Lange.

It was at least more "horror", where as Hotel was more of a kitschy drama with supernatural elements, imo. It felt too raunchy Glee for me. Jessica Lange did some of the best characters. Her characters in Asylum and Freakshow were great. They also need to give Evan Peters a bigger role next time just because I want the eyecandy, tbh. On that note, more Matt Bomer, too.

It's not my favorite genre, but I do like some of them. I love the Alien movies, Predator, Pitch Black, Starship Troopers, Shaun of the Dead, The Triangle, Cloverfield, Jeepers Creepers... I also loved The Exorcist. Couldn't sleep with the lights out for weeks after, but it was worth it xD

Also season 2 of American Horror Story is fantastic, didn't care too much for the other seasons.

While I love a good-bad movie (Shark Attack 3: Megalodon might take the cake for me on that one), once you've seen this doc you don't really NEED to see Troll 2. It's pretty excruciating There have been a lot of great horror documentaries in recent years. Never Sleep Again (about the Nightmare on Elm Street films) and Crystal Lake Memories are terrific and exhaustive (His Name Was Jason is pretty good if you're looking for something F13 but you don't want to sit through all 1,000,000 hours of Crystal Lake Memories). The Psycho Legacy is pretty good...I haven't seen Still Screaming since I don't care much for the Scream series beyond the first film but it's also supposed to be a good retrospective. Sorry to blab on so much, I just love this stuff

It's been ages since I watched the Scream movies, only seen the first Nightmare on Elm street, I'm terrible, I should watch the others at some point. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, original, classic. Saw the re-make, wow, what a turd. Rob Zombie, would you like his stuff? I only saw two of his movies, House of a Thousand Corpses and the sequel to that, which I thought was better, The Devil's Rejects.

When it comes down to movies, I have 2 types: horror and animations... so yes, I can watch Shrek and right after, 28 days later ^^ The last 'good' horror movie I saw : The Autopsy of Jane Doe. Well, I saw Alien Covenant, but it's not a horror movie to me (less boring than Prometheus but does not even come close to Alien(1979) ):/ Before I wake was pretty good too (one horror movie/day, when a movie is not too hilarious/ridiculous/boring, it becomes a "good" horror movie to me ^^) And for the real hilarious horror movie: The toxic avenger (trailer)Tucker and Dale vs Evil (trailer)I'm gonna try Get out this evening

Haha aww bless you OKAY DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU I would definitely recommend Nightmare on Elm Street 3...it's got some 80s-corny effects, but who cares? It's a lot of fun, the cast is great...it's probably my favorite entry in the series and I love it more every time I see it. 2 is an anomaly that has interesting ideas (and alllll that delicious gay subtext), and 4 is okay. You can definitely stop after that though, they're pretty awful. TEXAS CHAIN SAW probably my all-time favorite horror movie, it's just an absolute masterpiece! If anyone hasn't seen it but is curious about it: it has a reputation for being horrifying and terrifying, and that's totally well-deserved...but don't let that reputation and title fool you, it's NOT a total gore-fest. There's actually only a minute amount of explicit violence. You'd see more graphic stuff on your average episode of Law & Order SVU I have wistful "it's not fit to shine the original's shoe's, but I liked it anyway" feelings about the remake, but in all honesty I realize that is probably just because Jessica Biel ran around in a tank top through the whole thing. I AM ONLY A LITTLE BIT ASHAMED Rob Zombie...yeah, Devil's Rejects was better than Corpses for sure. And I guess Lords of Salem is supposed to be okay (relatively speaking), but I checked out after watching his two Halloween flicks. I know some people really love his work, but...I dig his aesthetic and I think he has good ideas, but FFS he needs to let someone else write his scripts. Although he was slated to do a(nother) remake of The Blob at one point, and that could have been interesting

@morlanwen ah fuck yiss, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, I love that movie, hilarious! Shaun of the Dead, another great horror comedy. If some haven't seen it here. Also, let me know what you think of Get Out, it's on my to watch list.

I've seen worse reasons for giving a movie a free pass. The Hills Have Eyes, original, thought the re-make was pretty gross and FU jump scares, those aren't scary, those are annoying and cheap. Why must they be in so many horror movies now? Lazy, learn to build suspense again, jeez. Any thoughts, glorious expert?

Lazy, learn to build suspense again, jeez. Any thoughts, glorious expert? I completely agree re: jump scares. I think they're okay if they're used VERRRRY rarely, but so many movies rely on them almost exclusively and that's not the kind of experience I'm looking for. (Same goes for horror games.) It's definitely cheap-feeling when that's all there is. I get that jump scares can make for a fun theater viewing thanks to crowd reactions, but personally I love love love a slow burn and I'm all about atmosphere and tension. That's why I've kind of gravitated away from slashers and stuff, as much as I love 'em. Gimme a a Ti West movie where nothing really happens but the tension is unbearable And @morlanwen thanks for spoilering that Jane Doe...uh...spoiler. I'm dying to see that movie (I've heard great things) and I don't want to know anything going in!

Some years back I watched a ton of the old classic slashers with friends around Halloween. I love watching those kinda cheesy old movies with people so we can all laugh at how dumb everyone's life choices are. lol Honestly, the only kind of horror I don't like is the gore porn stuff that was big for a while. I can even get into a lot of the shaky cam stuff.

Just too fuckin' gross for me. Get no joy outta those movies.
